The precious Word of God is always good confort for the soul....I feel Very Sorry for those who dont appreciate IT. I pray earnestly for them, so they somewhat look after the Word of God and find the comfort and deliverance I once found some seventy years ago. May God bless us ALL.
The first time I saw Aled was when he was this incredible young singer and at that time I thought he had the most beautiful voice I ever heard. He grew into one of the finest singers and his mature voice still touches my soul.
What a wonderful encouragement to those who feel stressed or tossed by life's troubles. Aled is simply beautiful in his interpretation of this classic.
Three different composers worked to create "Be Still, My Soul." A woman involved in the Pietism Movement, Katharina von Schlegel wrote the lyrics. A century later, Jane Borthwick, a Scottish-born composer, translated the hymn into English. The last contributor was Jean Sibelius, Finland's finest composer. The music from "Finlandia" is used as the tune for this hymn. God used three people with three different languages to give us this wonderful example of Christian patience. Hope this helps.
I have watched this lovely Welshman grown from a boy with a beautiful voice into a charming man with a beautiful voice. If anyone was touched by angels, it is Aled Jones. A truly humble man
It is so wonderful to hear such a fine singer and a fine man sing a beautiful hymn so movingly. It touches our spirit. Thank you Aled Jones and thank you for uploading this gift of joy and comfort.
Such beautiful, comforting words! I had heard this song many times, but one Sunday morning, when I needed it most, the words comforted me in such a powerful way. Personally, I would love to hear these words put to a more joyful tune.
Beautiful...Katharina A. Von Schlegel must have had great spiritual awareness to write such a hymn...it is full of compassion..I am moved to tears every time I hear it...what a wonderful soul.
This is a very deep and moving song that always touches my inner core of being, especially in those darker, more serious moments. He sings it so well, he sings it as if he feels it and experiences it without need for overstatement. I wish I could communicate how wonderful our Lord Jesus really is to those who do not know Him and how wonderful the experience of being in relationship with Him is, but words cannot ever suffice to explain the peace. This song does express the understanding of calm within the storm better than any of my words ever could. Thank you for posting this video.
(The lyrics as I know them - 4 verses) Be still, my soul: the Lord is on thy side, Bear patiently the cross of grief and pain, Leave to thy God to order and provide, In every change, He faithful will remain. Be still my soul: thy best, thy heavenly friend Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end. Be still my soul: thy Lord will undertake To guide thy future as He has thy past! your hope, your confidence, let nothing shake, All once mysterious shall be clear at last. Be still my soul, the tempests still obey His voice who ruled them once on Galilee. Be still my soul: when dearest friends depart, And all is darkness in this vale of tears. Then shalt thy better know His love, His heart - Who comes to soothe thy sorrow; calm thy fears. Be still my soul - for Jesus can repay, From His own goodness, all He takes away. Be still my soul - the hour is hastening on, When we shall be forever with the Lord, When disappointment, grief and fear are gone, Sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored. Be still my soul when tears and grief are past, All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.
Be still, my soul: the Lord is on thy side, Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain, Leave to thy God to order and provide, In every change, He faithful will remain. Be still my soul: thy best, thy heavenly friend Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end. Be still my soul: though dearest friends depart, And all is darkened in the vale of tears. Then shalt thou be-tter know His love, His heart - Who comes to soothe thy sorrows; and thy fears. Be still my soul - thou waves and winds still know, His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below Be still my soul - the hour is hastening on, When we shall be forever with the Lord, When disappointment, grief and fear are gone, Sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored. Be still my soul when change and tears are past, All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.
Mr Jones is blessed with one of the finest male voices ever, to my ear perhaps even more beautiful than. Andrea Bocelli's. Of course it's all subjective.but a young New Zealander named Will Martin is also well worth listening to.
I think it's used by both protestants and mormons. I just was searching for the lyrics, and one of the links was too #124 in an LDS hymnal, and another was for a Methodist hymnal. We're singing it in my Bible study tonight, though its the first time I have heard it.
This song is one of the "mormons" hymns . the background it doesn't look like a mormon chapel.... but what a beautiful beautiful interpretation, and great voice.
This is not a Mormon hymn and neither was it's author. Katharina Amalia Dorothea von Schlegel was German and died circa 1768. She was a Pietist Lutheran. Joseph Smith's Book of Mormon was first printed in 1830. On April 6, 1830, the Mormon Church (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) was formed with six members at Fayette, New York. The timelines and the history just don't add up.
Richard Wylie Katharina Amalia Dorothea von Schlegel wrote the lyrics. The melody is Finlandia. Be still my soul differs By lyrics from the original ones. Finlandia, Op. 26 is a symphonic poem by the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. It was written in 1899 and revised in 1900. The piece was composed for the Press Celebrations of 1899, a covert protest against increasing censorship from the Russian Empire, and was the last of seven pieces performed as an accompaniment to a tableau depicting episodes from Finnish history.
Going to a church on a regular basis and predicating the reason is because of the Pastor then my believe of the Triune God is not truly of being that strong. Just as hymns were written they have a direct message(s) from the bible. The words of each hymn should be first above the musical accompaniment. This hymnwill be played at my Celebration of Life. The words our outstanding! The music side, was the melody to my High School Alma Mater
Sorry to say its not commercially available, but there are programmes on the net, which will enable you to download a copy of it off TH-cam.. Programmes such as Real Player Download should work ok, its a free download too.. Hope this helps.
The composition is by Sibelius. This is what I meant. It is a pity when the composer is not credited especially when the composition is one of the most important for all Finns. It is like taking the Star spangled banner to some other context without even mention what is the origin. www.umcdiscipleship.org/resources/history-of-hymns-be-still-my-soul
I agree, actually the fundamental principle of interpreting a text or/and a law when there is ambiguity is going back to who authored it? What was the very reason of the writing? Where was it written? What was the political and social situation at the time of the writing? And at times you you need to go to the deepest of knowing the author's personal life his/her personality, character, political affiliation, church affiliation, race identity. Sadly people just love to sing and listen to music for whatever reason they don't go into scrutinizing every song they come across.
We heard of members from church (we are associated with) who left the church on question Why are the songs written by John Wesley are in the church hymnal? They assert the songs of John Wesley should not be sung in the church because John Wesley is one among the champion of Armenianism.
As I listen to this hymn I can't help but remember what the Lord has done for me though out my life of 75 years,How awesome He is.
Aled Jones' voice is one of my favorite musical sounds. So natural and perfect for this lovely song.
Just beautiful! How wonderful is our Lord Jesus!
We all should use this song as a tool to carry us through life's journey. Trust in the Lord and wait patiently on Him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

According to the video titles, it was to the tune "Finlandia" by Sibelious, hope that helps..
It is I believe for the country of Findland. It was for the soldiers that went to eat against Hitler
William Whitney Lyrics written around 1752.
It is in the LDS hymnbook with many of the other traditional Christian hymns, but it is not a hymn unique to the LDS church.
Serious pipes.

who's the lady's face at the beginning?
If you are ever asked what a “tenor” singer is, play this.
Please remember that this song is originally from Jean Sibelius' Finlandia.

Thanks for clarifying. I understand what you said. Give the honor where it belongs.

Prachtig
Kleenex owes this man some royalty checks.
Where is this church?
Where can I buy a copy of this video?
But it's not like hymns about God's provision and Jesus' sanctifying us are restricted to the denomination of whoever wrote the hymn ^.^
Exemplairias...
Good, but far from the original by Sidney McEwan
The rolling Rs of the cathedral choirboy!
Yuck!!
The guy was toe-curling when a boy soprano.
Hasn't changed much.
That's the way of choral music and singing. With clarity and using the word in these hymns ! Not impressed with your view.
Beautiful!!!
