Thank you!! I can never find good videos for kids and families. They are all on controlled models and still shots. Im photographing my toddlers and my R5 and RF lenses are not fast enough with eye tracking focus to nail the images often enough for me. I have found the same. I have to stay at about an f4 or higher to get one of both in focus. I have to crank up my shutter speed and add any blur in post. Primes are nice but zoom is way more helpful. And I use back button focus as well. ♥️♥️ I also have my camera set on H+ so when I push down it snaps multiple photos quickly. Easier to go back and delete later and find the best expression.

Hi Ashley, I loooove your tips! Thank you for that. I love the way you explain every thing! It's like you are talking to kids!! it makes life easier!!! Again thanks! I would like to know what your gear ist. If you use more lenses in one session or only the 50mm? It could be a great topic for a video?

also thank you so much!! Funny cause I use to be an elementary teacher! I love explaining things in a way so that if my 10 year old son watches he would understand too! No need for big lingo and fancy stuff over here lol

how do you choose where to focus? do you just tap the screen?

It depends on your camera, how many people are in the image, and what you are trying to achieve!
I'd love to answer this more in my fb group for you!

All this tip would apply to a group of children moving at the same time?. What would be your setting in this case?. Please help me. I am struggling with this.

Yes!! I may move up my shutter as fast as I could with the lighting, but I also am okay with kids being a tad out of focus as they are moving. Like if we have 3 kids running towards me and I focus on the kid that is the fastest but their siblings are a tad out of focus behind them. I actually think this is cute :)

so if they are all moving at me at the same time- I don't care if some are out of focus. At that point it becomes more artistic! But at that point, I would up your aperture if they are all on different focal planes!

very smart rule: "for moving subjects under 5 y/o , don't go below aperture 3.2"
