Every time I am in Horse Cave KY, this song comes to mind. It is the birthplace of the writing of this song according to the back story from "Pete Roans", Bill's pronunciation.
I had the privilege of speaking with Peter Rowan when he was inducted into the Bill Monroe Bluegrass Hall of Fame in Bean Blossom and he told me there were 2 walls of time. One wall is that when something is forgotten by all it is gone for ever. The other wall of time was Bill Monroe's mandolin playing. He said nothing could shake the timing on it.

Man that is great, I wonder what thoughts Bill Monroe had about Peter Rowan, if he could see there was something special about him, if somehow he could see that he needed to branch off and bloom into his own thing. This is my favorite version of this song, that fiddle play is so raw and sincere, like Miles Davis album "Kind of Blue" where the first time hearing and playing a song you get those musical instincts come out. Peter Rowan is one of my favorite songwriters and singers.

Raised on Bill Monroe. About 52 dad took us to a rodeo in Merryville La. I came home telling mama. They played Footprints In The Snow. All I remember. Bulls Bucks never.
