I popped 2 single jade leaves on some soil 6 months ago and now have 2 tiny little adorable plants, one with 12 leaves and one with 14. Yes it takes ages but like you, Richard, I find it SO rewarding! 😊🌱
For a beginners I recommend just to put the leafs into the tray with a paper towel in it. A lot of light. No moisting, no weathering. After about three weeks they will develop an aerial roots. After that, you can safely plant them into the soil mix.
@@francisbedard8931 yes, sir. If you don't believe, use just two strong leafs for this propagation method and put the rest straight into the soil. I'd like to show you a picture of my actual airial propagation, but I can't here
Just the other day I found 2 leaves of my jade plant that had fallen off at some point on my balcony and both were actually growing a new plant without my knowing right there on the cold floor :O feeding on nothing but the leaf itself... I put them on soil right away but I was genuinely surprised at how sturdy they are
I just did 5 leaves for a friend, hoping they all root. I waited 3 days, and they had callused over, so, I put all in a shallow plastic container, spritzed them gently with a water spray, and hope for the best! I appreciate your postings!! Love your humor too.
A lot of succulents propagate this way! One of the reasons they're my favorite plant types. Another trick is to prune the your jade "mother" into a conical shape when you do prune. It'll begin to take on the looks of a tree and pretty soon you'll have yourself a jade bonsai! 👍
Thanks for the suggestion to pop the plate in a bag! I dropped my very happy, purple jade recently and knocked off close to 100 leaves. I've had them on a soil plate since then, but they aren't rooting. I suspect my house is too cold. I'm now trying the Ziploc greenhouse trick and hopefully it works!🤞
I'm absolutely going to steal... uh, I mean acquire some leaves from my sister's jade plant this Christmas 😂 I really liked the look of your saucer with the circle of jade leaves you showed a while ago, I Can't remember if it was here or on Patreon Thank you for the video 👍🏻
Last year, at this time, I saw a piece of Christmas cactus on the floor of the grocery store. It looked like a tiny "Y". Today it's about 10 inches tall in a pot of 5 stems.
@@TheNetsrac I had a huge one years ago and had to leave it behind when I moved. It's going to be another year before I can find out what color this one will bloom. I can hardly wait.

You can do leaf propagation the same as this with pretty much all succulents, you just have to make sure you have a healthy leaf, sometimes twisting them a bit help them come off the stem without damaging the leaf. Jade is probably the easiest, I found some others will start to rot if they are sat on damp soil tho, so keep it dry if you have that issue, they can grow without any moisture as they will use all the moisture from the parent leaf to start growing 😊
I love growing jade babies! These are so much fun 😄 I usually just put a few broken leaves on top of the soil in plants I am already growing. I use no rooting hormone, nothing except love and expectation, then voila! New life! I think I'll leave God to being God though 🤭 I'm trying to give them away as my house will be taken over by Jade plants if I'm not careful 🫣 As always, great content...thank you! 🌱🪴
So I'm about to reveal some good news... You actually should place your Jade in direct sunlight. It loves the sun if you don't let the soil dry up too much. It will get more red, especially around the edges, which might make you think you've burnt it. But it's actually the only way you are ever going to see a Jade flower. I still havent seen it but my plant is still young...because I ruined the motherplant through years of mistreatment. 😅 I really enjoy the redness though; it gives life to the plant. I've only seen pictures of it flowering but its adorable!
I had a few leaves from my jade get accidently knocked off so I always stick them back into the pot to get new growth from 😊 Although I've noticed the plant seems to naturally split, so is it necessary to prune it or is it a matter of preference for how bushy you want your plant? I don't have a great deal of space so tend to like my plants to grow up instead of out 😅
I have a quite big old jade and I regret not prunning enough because the stems now are pretty tall and its so heavy it can't stand its own weight and it bends downwards, it doesn't look very nice It does split naturally so you don't have to prune if you don't want to but you might end up with a messy plant like mine lol
Well, I know what I’m going to be doing to my jade plant now... If I would’ve known it was that simple to propagate, it would’ve started A LONG TIME AGO and save myself some $$$..
Oh..I watched the other jade video of yours and planted mine that way. I will re-watch that one and decide plant friend. We all ready talked about that one, I am sure. Peace.
My leaf propagations in soil have sprouted multiple little leaves but they don’t seem to have grown any bigger in a year. Do you have any advice on how to get them to grow more or does it take years?
Coincidentally, I just put a couple of leaves from a succulent onto the soil. It's on the windowsill next to the shower. The original plant has needed very little water, the moisture in the air seems to generally be enough. We'll see.
I just got a cute little Crassula Pretty in Pewter (couldn't resist the name alone 😊) and otw home it busted a stem that was already half hanging from the store. If I let it callous some more and plant (or just plant bc I'm lazy) will it be OK? 🙏 I was there getting perlite and it jumped in my cart. They do that a lot.
I stuck a leaf in some soil 8 months ago but I actually pushed the broken end into the soil I didn't lie it on top. It's growing little roots but obviously there's no little leaves like you would get if you leave them on top of the soil. What do you think is going to happen and what do you think I should do?

I think of them as a little fairy village. 😂 I've had luck with jade and gollum jade, however bear paw jade I haven't had any luck with. It's unfortunate because it's a very fragile plant that I often break leaves off unintentionally while handling it. 😐It's so darn cute though.
It's so cute.. they are look like the classic jade, except they are fuzzy and have claws. They enjoy being pruned and do well propagating from cuttings. @@SheffieldMadePlants
I had asked you if you have purple passion plants. I just now realized there are a few plants called that. This is the one I'm talking about, Gynura aurantiaca. Check it out. BTW loving your weekly emails. Learning so much.
i did it and it has not grown a single root in 4 weeks. its summer here and its thick which means it has water in it. why does it grow in such a slow path? last time i cut a piece off of it, it took it 3 months to grow a new ones on the spot where i cut it.
