- I came to the Barrio of Bogota here in Colombia in hunt for content. This area of Bogota is known for being some what dangerous so I brought a local with me to show me the way around however it wasn't that easy...🇨🇴

Nice video Ben. I was in Bogota in 2012 and visited the barrios. Very rough but interesting place. Props to you for taking a risk to bring us a personal perspective of life in these places!

Good job Ben. I’ve come across lots of places in the world where just walking on the sidewalk close to your hotel can be dangerous. I was once walking after dark near our hotel in Tashkent, another garden spot, when I realized that a gaping hole the size of a refrigerator was in my path on the sidewalk. This hole had no barriers to prevent pedestrians from falling in. This next morning I could see that the hole was full of steel rebar sticking straight up to skewer whomever happened to fall in. I was in Khartoum in the late eighties where I was walking close to my hotel when the smell of death overwhelmed the sidewalk. I turned around to find a guy lying dead beneath a small palm tree. He’d been there for a while. Of course American street in big cities are dangerous too and full of crazy people. People will soon get sick of it. It’ll change and get cleaned up eventually, it always does. But, there’s little hope for the third world. Good luck with your travels with Bald. He set the bar pretty high with his walk to the Russian copycat Space Shuttlsky.

In his last report from the bordertown, before Bogota, mr Bald told us Ben was leaving, travelling on his own. But 3:56 in to this report from Ben in Bogota, I can spot mr Bald at the same "fountain" from where he starts his latest video, visiting the rough parts of Bogota. Ben, you seem to walk the same streets as mr Bald here, still being in the same place as him, at the same time!? It´s great fun to follow you guys and it makes it more interesting to try to spot any of you from the "other side" , in your videos. 😎
I think they really didnt get along well and just split apart without creating damage. And bald does create really good content, he always seems shady when seen from a different perspective. Im not judging anyone here but i have my opinion on why they split. That being said, im not cheering for either of these guys, in fact i didnt even know Backpacker Ben before that trip. But i have my opinion about Bald

Ben I lived on the Moor in the 70s and went to school in Plymouth until 1981 and this is what Plymouth looked like. The streets behind Union street towards Millbay were full of hookers , drunks , drug addicts and were extremely dangerous plus Marines and sailors looking to sample the local delights . I’m told that it’s lovely around the Ferryport are much better now ……..but this could be your city if you were born a few years ago .

I’ve spent 3 weeks in Colombia. Some of the warmest people I’ve ever met!
I saw a documentary film 2 or 3 decades ago about gangs of orphan children in Bogota, and it was horrible. I can see why you didn't think it was safe. You get a vibe of danger when you see people openly taking drugs and acting against the law. Sadly, isolated parts of the USA are getting to be like this. Certain local governments refuse to activate law enforcement against this sort of thing.

Ben, I recently traveled across my country for the first time solo, biggest trip of my life. Ive learned that watching someone travel online can look appealing but once put in their shoes you realize how it can be a struggle! Do you ever feel like stopping? Or do you feel like each trip gives it own experience and wisdom, enough for you to move on to the next? After all, living a normal 9-5 can be quite the struggle as well. CHEERS BEN!

In regarding North America, when the British ruled the place, the descendants of the settlers made America 🇺🇸 and Canada 🇨🇦 rich developed countries but when the Spanish and Portuguese ruled Latin America, the descendants of those settlers seemed to have made most of those places so poor.

Especially be careful of accepting drinks from locals or leaving a drink unattended. Scopolamine poisoning is a issue in Colombia.
