    Master Gogen Yamaguchi kind of looks like a native American medicine-man.
    Can't help thinking of the ice-age connection.

    Great to finally see these old videos come out with Gogen Yamaguchi ! Wish I could find some old diaries telling about the rigours of training by any foreign students at that time. Can you imagine doing life over again in the 1960's and 70's as a foreign student 18 years old going to Japan after having learned Japanese and training for 5 years intensely? Probably most "white boys" couldn't handle it.

    "Even today, young man, if you were to face me in combat, I would be able to determine in a second the strength of your Ki. Immediately I would know if you were a good opponent. It is this quality, and no other, which has given me the name of The Cat."

    Oyama sensei was a Goju-ryu practitioner, so Kyokushin and Goju-ryu are very similar, this will become more apparent after you manage to get a kyokushin black belt and begin to learn both hard and soft techniques. Unfortunately, some dojos focus almost exclusively in MMA techniques and leave great part of the original kyokushin lessons aside... sometimes I think that Ashihara and Enshin schools, that were born from kyokushin, are more loyal to the original kyokushin than kyokushin itself.

      In fact kyokushin it’s not traditional karate it’s a hybrid just based on external strength good for young big boys. It doesn’t use tai sabaki they don’t even know what is timing it’s just strength against strength who is the toughest wins. Plus those rules they get knocked out with flashy kicks cause they don’t know how to cover they heads. Oh and the arthritis when you get older and muscles fade. Machida the only one who used real traditional karate in UFC the other ones just ugly and hopeless😂

    • @alricmetalheart4125
      @alricmetalheart4125 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kyokushin was created by blending Goju Ryu and Shotokan together with various techniques from korean arts of Taekyon( not Tae Kwon Do) and Kwon Beop (Fist art).

    Yes but i'm trying find out different attribute of each different style of karate. Masterdude134 mention that Okinawa karate they focus on one kill shot strike's , also they condition there toes and finger as a weapon. I practice kyokushin and what i learn in kyokushin is limitless. but i practice shotokan with a friend they teach us lot footwork i don't see in kyokushin obviously it's in there but it's done different.I just feel kind limited to me so far.

  • @hotpopcorncake
    @hotpopcorncake 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh wow really i didn't know that i seen Okinawa ,goju and uechi ryu karate they condition the toes and fingers. but In kyoksuhin we punch tree's but i notice in Japanese karate like shotokan and shito ryu they hit makiwara or i maybe be idk. i might be wrong.

    Dear friend as well as Machida and other karateka in the world, not the rule and it is not possible to differentiate the style of Karateka watching a fight, it would be impossible to differentiate. For lay people always think of Karate Fighter Karate uses only one fighting style, because that is particular to each one .. The karate fighter gives full support to act efficiently as the number and variety of punches and kicks and karate techniques in general is absurdly infinite.

  • @hotpopcorncake
    @hotpopcorncake 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes i notice how machida doesn't bounce around. but he know his footwork and techniques striking to the face like a target to a missile. i never seen goju ryu in action tho i think they good at taisobaki. from seeing there kata's also i tried to see here on youtube a power representation of goju ryu or Okinawa in action

    Oh i see. I heard he was a friend of Mas oyama that's what lead me here. I seen him in picture with Mas oyama together with him. Also i wanted to know what the difference this karate with shotokan. What made shotokan so famous in japan?

    • @raymondfrye5017
      @raymondfrye5017 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shotokan was famous in Japan because it had a real Okinawan master teaching it: Gichin Funakoshi..

    • @828maori5
      @828maori5 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Actually, he was advised by his Goju-ryu instructor (Nei Chu) to train his soul in order to control his mind. That happened after the case where he killed, with a single blow, a troublemaker, that was assaulting a woman.
    Following that he will undertake his famous and life-challenging retreat at Mt. Minobu that will culminate with the creation of Kyokushinkaikan.
