God damn, i was able to find it today after 20+ years.. My version was rom hack chip and dale, i clearly remember that big gun sound but dont understand what it was?
It was 1990 when I started to play this game after my school. I was able to finish it when I discovered the secret button control that gave me 100 lives. This is my all time favourite game.
Skills are on point. I never made it past the twin robot boss battle and that was after having help on 2-player mode. I'd always be the last one alive but I had help nonetheless.
another very pleasant trip to my teen years courtesy of JagOfTroy! tho I got the "original" arcade emulated on my MAME (hence the quotation marks, LOL) this one brings back so many memories as well. now, I can hardly wait till JAG, Valis77, Tsunao & MadMatty or JohnX make a 4player LP of ThunderZone, known in the States as Desert Assault. I've already requested it on the main site (and would again if allowed) so PLEASE make it happen!

+Decibel FX I was about to say the same thing. Going by 4 dimensional gameplay on this one, it reminds me more of the 2nd level Contra Alien Wars. One of the toughest game of its time.

actually, believe it or not, even tho this was inspired by Capcom's Commando, which in turn was inspired by Taito's Frontline, this one inspired MERCS which went on to inspire both SNK/Saurus' ShockTroopers games. pays to know your VG history, right?

you have no idea how many unlicensed(some even a skin swapped ripoff) games that name after "Contra" which I have played when I was little. this being one of them ripoff, they just slap "Contra" on the game sell it and hope to boost the sales. In fact not until high school, I still think this is one of the contra games. still one of the best games I have played.
What does the character say when he collects all the parts for the gun at 8:20? My brother and I used to say he said FEMA when we were young but I’m curious to finally figure it out lol.

I disagree. I think this is far inferior to the arcade. No voice clips picking up the parts or yelling heavy barrel. Pretty lame.
Definitely one of Data East's better releases on the NES.

This port was a very lazy effort. I now the nes had its limits but this is really gutted.
Arcade is better NES has limited continues it sucks ass!
Learn to play, then maybe you can beat the NES version.
