Craig, thanks for helping an old guy learn how to make great beer, sauerkraut, ribs, etc. You are a great teacher. I also love your singing, drumming, etc! I am 67 years old and have been brewing for only about a year now...with your guidance. I've also passed on a lot of your great information to fellow brewers in my area and am now teaching veteran brewers things they never knew! Rock on, Craig! Thanks again!
Craig, I know you don't do much anymore on the Tube and we do miss you. Sitting here enjoying a Stout I made for the St. Paddy's Day trying to salvage what's left of my weekend since I had to work. Went back to my roots last weekend and brewed a partial mash. Watched this video countless times as I was getting into more advanced brewing and away from the canned extract kits. i just noticed your counter and want to say you are a brave man for brewing with an empty paper towel holder. just wanted to to say thank you for keeping these old videos around. they are so helpful and sometimes just great to sit and watch.
Thanks Craig, I have not brewed in about 8 years. Watching your videos has renewed my interest and will be starting again very soon. I like your new music back ground too. Thanks again Mike from TN.
your a great teacher Craig ive learned how to home brew through you, ive watched a lot of videos but you purely have the skill to teach and break down the essentials ... cheers
Enjoyed the video Craig. Great timing for me. I just received two mini mash kits yesterday and will be brewing them up this weekend. I've only brewed extract and partial kits so this will be my first attempt brewing a mini mash kit. It looks no more difficult to brew than a partial kit. Cheers, 17!
Hi Craig, been making extracts for years now and just recently made a few partials. Just wanna say thxs for ur vids cause i've been wanting to go the nxt steps and make mini's then a full, and you have taken the perceived mystery/difficulty out of making these brews for me and given me the confidence to takle these myself. Cheers m8 from Oz
hey Craig, this is the best video ever yet because you've posted it afeter you've brewed it wait untill it fermented and tasted it. Before it was a bit of a pain watching brewing proces and than we needed to wait a couple of weeks to see the tasting video. BTW my next brew is going to be the same mini mash proces, but I'll make a werry hoppy ale. Thanks for the instructions. Chers!
I worked for a private brewery making 500gal every 4 days with a custom built vat. We had a thermastat built into it to keep the mash at a rough 90-95°F. The method we used was to mix white and brown sugar with yeast for 15min, once done mixing we poured and layered wheat-shock evenly accross the top and covered it. When it was finished we had a light brown sweet and smooth ale.
I've seen a video or two of yours and will now subscribe. THANK YOU for not only giving us a ton if good information, information that is very usable, but for doing so in a way that DOES make it useable! Cheers my friend!
I started brewing by first watchin your vids. I've been thinking partial mash, read up on it too. But never saw it. This vid makes it look fairly simple. May just give it a try next month when retiree payday comes around again!
I love this video as well because of the included tasting. However, my favorite part is the information you feed us in the beginning of what the different types of brewing are and what they mean. Still being new to it myself, I didn't quite understand the difference between an extract w/ speciality grains and a partial mash. Now I know. Thanks.
Thanks for the video. I think there need to be more videos like this that show just how simple A.G. can be. Brewers are a clever but geeky sort, and most videos out there make A.G. look intimidating with all the slightly over-complex mash-tuns and fly-sparging set-ups that. All you really need to do A.G. is a water-receptacle and some heat :)
The beer name used in this Video is an actual beer brewed by a brewery in Aurora, Colorado. Dry Dock Brewing Co. has shared their recipe w/Northern Brewer and they sell the Pro Series kits like the one you used in this video.....SS Minnow Mild is a 2008 GABF silver medal winner!
Great video Craig, as always. I have been thinking about trying this method for awhile. This video has helped me make that decision. Thanks again and keep up the great work.
My partial mashes !st & 2nd were 5lb of grains & 3.3 lb LME or 3 lb DME respectively. With this 2nd pm,I was forced to go cheap with big bills & no Christmas tree,to use what I had laying around. 2.010 & 2011 Cooper's 7g yeast packets that produced the richesty yeast cream to date! They went in mt 2nd pm brew That due to average crush wasn't fine enough for biab & gave a lower OG than expected. But your AG video gave me the nerve to try. Thank you!
Excellent now isn't that better tasting than a pre-hopped can and boiling water ? The WL004 alone will make a Hugh Caramel addition during fermentation and partials can tastes just as awesome as AG !!! EKG are one of my fav hops. Excellent video Craig.
Hey Craig! Been watching for a while and totally love your videos! Can you tell me the recipe for this dark session beer, or what kit it is and where I can get it? Can't wait to see your all grain video! Thanks for all your info and entertainment!
Well done. I am wondering, how come you dont put hops in a bag also. Where are the hops particles when fermenting? Stay at the bottom with the yeast? Cheers!
If you use iodine to test the starch conversion you don't have to follow the directions as closely when considering how long to mash your grain. Iodine will turn black if there is starch that still needs to be converted( so you need to mash longer). It will keep its original color(orange) if there are no more starches to be converted. Hope this helps in the future. PS. dont't put iodine directly in to your beer. just take a tabelspoon of it and mix it with a drop or two of iodine.
thx Craig, here's what went down... since all of it was in the Lager fridge and nothing else... i just turned off the fridge... in two weeks i will turn it back on.. thx... i feel better. i'm new to this so i'm an idiot still..
I think in the end he had 5 gallons like always. He used a 3.5 gallon pot (I think!) so he probably boiled around 2.5 to 3 gallons in the end. I'm not sure if those were US or UK gallons though!
As per a good video. Interesting to see the lack of head compared to your other mini mash video, but lack of head isn't an issue so long as the brew is good. Out of interest how much do pubs charge for beer in your neck of the woods?
Thanks for the video! I been getting kits from my supplier that are similar to this, not as many grains all together but same general idea, less boil time though for the ones I do. An off topic question, what song are you using for the music in this video? Is it an original track you made? It sounds so relaxing
hi craig, noticed you used a couple different steps as your first mini mash.. just wondering what does the "wort chiller" suppose to do to the mix and is it needed? Thanks, do appreciate the vids
OK I understand, All grain is something elese for you and for us so I will not mind to wait for a tasting video. Waitng for tasting video is something like waiting fo beer to ferment... pain in the a... :D Can you give us any clues on what kind of beer are you going to make with this AG, a clone of somesort or will you do something by your own recipe "Ale a la Craig"?
Hey craig! (or any other person with experience) I want to make a replica of Murphy's stout which doesnt include a malt extract in the recipe, am I to leave in the grains during fermenting or do I have to mash it like in this video and take them out after an hour or so? Greetings
Craig, i Learned off of your videos and was wondering if you could help me, it's urgent.. in my mind it is anyway... i just finished and bottled on Monday and made the school boy mistake of throwing my bottles directly in the fridge.. it is a dark ale... i primed it in the bucket and bottled... when i realized what i have done... i turned my fridge down to bout 50 degrees.. and hoped i will be o.k.. Am i screwed? what have i done?
If you heat the water with the muslin bag and grains in it, the bag can get burned and all the grains in the water. The recommendation is to heat the water first until you get you hit temp and then add the bag and the grains. It happened to me lol.
He did the mash/ he did the mini mash/ the mini mash / it was a CraigTube smash/ the mini mash/ bier in a flash/ the mini mash! Sorry Craig, I couldn't resist :)
Ps if anyone tries this add a .5oz or even 1 if you like hoppy beer at 20min and 10min for a 45min boil and 30 & 10 for a 60min Bol. It's a awesome hop EKG !!!
Not craig but can give you advice first off take it out of fridge and leave for 3 weeks at room temo thenc chill down itll be fine should carb up in 3 weeks at room temp =)

This life-long aquarium keeper, beer drinker and journeyman painter, thanks you for this.

Great Video nice to see a new one and it was put together very well for people to understand what was going on

That looks so beautiful and I bet it tastes awesome. Nice work
Love the bloopers Craig. Almost as much as your massive gulps when you do a tasting. Nice work buddy.

Nice work Craig, 17 !
How much water did you use in the mashing and in the sparging? Thanks and cheers!
How many gallons was your brew pot? Im looking to get a larger one, the one you used seemed about the right size.
