Mera Dhido Ranjha Beparwah - Kuldeep Manak x 6ixsr // Heer Ranjha Story // (Lyrics & Translation)

This is the first song from the Heer Ranjha Project I began this year. For context, Heer/Ranjha is like a Romeo/Juliet story originating from Panjab/Pakistan/Northern India. In the story, Ranjha is born into a rich farmer family. He has many older brothers, and Ranjha himself was the youngest. Since he was the youngest, he never did any work out in the fields; his brothers would take care of it. All Ranjha did was play the flute and relax. As he got older, his brothers would ask him to assist them in their farming duties, but Ranjha was carefree and never bothered to help. Eventually, Ranjha’s father passed away and the land he owned was split up between his sons. Ranjha’s brothers gave him the harshest plot of land, one that required a lot of hard work to produce any crops. Since Ranjha had never actually bothered to work before, he found this extremely difficult. His brothers and sister-in-laws kept taunting and shaming Ranjha because he was unable to farm his land properly.
Eventually Ranjha got fed up and said screw it, I’m leaving this village. He took his flute and a few belongings then set out on an adventure. During his travels, he gained some fame for how well he was able to play the flute. Everyone who heard him became mesmerized. Eventually he ran into Heer, the “Julliet” of this story. She fell in love with him at first sight. She then convinced her father to hire Ranjha as a shepherd. This way both Heer and Ranjha could stay close to one another. Heer would often bring sweets and other food for Ranjha as he worked. Ranjha did great at his job and soon the whole village knew of the handsome Ranjha who plays the flute.
This song in particular is where Dev Tharikewala (the writer) decided to start the story. Although this isn’t the first song sung by Manak regarding Heer/Ranjha, this song is the one that contains the earliest part of the story. The song is told in the perspective of Heer; she is explaining to all her friends how amazing Ranjha is
