No these stores and the prices and the rent and the rent prices destroyed these things... People forget how expensive greeting cards were in a Hallmark store. I were like $8. In 2015
This Hallmark was more than just a Hallmark. This was a true local shop that meant more to the Tudor City community and has been a vital part of so many people's memories. The staff here is amazing and really made the store special. It's absolutely criminal what the landlord has done and kicking out this tenant after so many years of goodwill. NO ONE in the neighborhood wants the canabis store and is going to ruin the fabric of all the other local small businesses in the area. Thank you Amreen's Hallmark for everything your store has done for our home.
Thats horrible! I remember there used to be on in Queens too. Canabis stores dont even do good, theres two near my house and its always empty ppl barely go in
It's really quite disheartening to hear as this is happening in many parts of the city and Turtle Bay happens to be a nice area. For what it's worth, a weed shop in Jackson Heights, Queens finally closed, which I am sure is of great relief to the neighborhood as it just seemed to bring squalor to the area by attracting the wrong element. No other way to put it, I'm afraid.
I feel bad they are being forced out, but like everything else, businesses come and go (Woolworth, Rock Bottom, Genovese, Eckerd, Crazy Eddie, The Wiz, Tower Records, Virgin Megastore, etc.). It's a sign of the times where a Hallmark shop can't keep their business thriving, but a weed store can. Maybe the next step for all current business owners is to see if they can figure out a cannabis infused restaurant and become the first weed restaurant in the city?
Sign of the times is right - no one wants to send cards, everyone just wants to get high. Sad, sad state of the world. btw the comment about greed is kind of ridiculous. If someone came to you and offered you an extra $7k (I think) a month, you’d say ‘no’? In today’s state of things, I don’t think anyone would turn that down, even the woman who made the comment SMH
Hope the neighborhood enjoys the 🦨 smell that is increasingly harder to get away from in the city. You can't walk a block without getting a whiff of it. 🤢
These stores were the essence of nyc i loved it hallmark stores now to say goodbye smh man after covid happened everything is done in nyc and rents r going up
Although I’ve never stepped foot in one of these in my entire life. I do enjoy them being around because at least someone gets to live a Harllmark life. Everything doesn’t have to be a brain dead ghetto fest.
Sad for Turtle Bay & Hallmark customers. Shame there's no regulation on commercial rents. Guess that 2nd Ave Mary Jane won't be cheap, paying $40K in monthly rent.
People have made the choice to shop online..for convenience and price..most people barely leave home..studies are proving people young and old are spending more time now isolated and indoors than anytime in our history…it’s sad..but that’s what people have chosen…alone with our tech toys…I travel a lot and around the country except for a few tourists places ..most places ..cities and towns..no one is around after 9 or so…for this 80s kid it’s very strange..but it’s reality now.
A sad Adele song in the background, talk about timing. It's sad to lose longtime neighborhood businesses. Then Eye of the Tiger near the end of the clip! That makes you feel
Legal dispensaries require security at the door that check ids. They don’t have a bunch of nonsense going on in front of them. Urs those illegal ones that bring chaos
So much to say but NY officials need to make up their mind. Is it legal or illegal to sell 🪴I know there have been so many stores closed and their merchandise confiscated so what’s the point. This landlord is greedy!!!
I'm sorry but Hallmark is quite expensive. I could go to Dollar tree get two cards for a dollar from the Hallmark collection buy a bag of weed from the same store and give it as a gift!
Oh please..First Hallmark is dying off in general..The one in my neighborhood in Ridgewood was around for 40 years plus and just recently closed..And for his claims of being the only Hallmark in NY is just plain bullshit .....
Btw the OCM has rules regarding a smoke shop and schools..As long as the place is 500 feet from a school it's fine..Being near the UN just means international customers.....
LET’S KEEP IT REAL!!!!! people not shopping for cards everyday, and now that marijuana has been legal, everybody smokes weed.🤷🏽♂️ This store would have definitely, been going to close sooner or later. And you can’t blame just online shopping because of it.

I’m a landlord, I haven’t raised my tenants rent, ever. Shame on these jerks, and for a weed shop.
Life is so boring now after Amazon destroyed these stores and malls.

@@RobynHood1021 Don’t just blame the landlords. Have you seen how much the city charges for property tax and how much it increases each year?

You go in and out of cannabis shops, it's very quick.
This would've been BIG news like 3-4 years ago lmfao nowadays no one cares about storefronts being replaced by dispensaries
