Having replayed FC3 after FC4, I can safely say that 4 is such a huge improvement on 3: larger outposts, better side quests, more interesting places, more weapons variety, more ways to kill enemies, more vehicles, more verticality, etc. What I liked more about 3 is the story, setting, and character development.

I lived in India for a couple of years and went to Nepal more times than I can count so I'm heavily biased but found the idea to place a video-game in a Nepal-inspired setting (there even are location that are exact copies of real places, the airport is Lukla for instance) with good doses of Indian pop-culture was pretty genius.
Ok, so for the reason why they got rid of dual death from above takedowns are due to the new animations. When you perform a death from above takedown in 3, you perform this animation and you can't do any more such as gunslinger, knife takedowns, or chain during the animation. In far cry 4, death from above allows you to chain more takedowns in sucession as you are able to move more freely during the dfa takedown(such as turning the camera to your next target). Hence, why there wasn't really a need there for dual death from above as you could chain takedown immediately after the dfa in 4. It might not be viable anymore to jump on two enemies to kill them both, but it allows sweet opportunities to perform mid air kills
Personally , I would have given the soundtrack point to FarCry3 . Brian Tyler's "I'm Sorry" is just so beautiful and mesmerizing that it gives you a heavy nostalgic feeling of sadness everytime you play the song and Skrillex' "Make it Bun Dem" , i would have done the flamethrower mission stealthily if it wasn't for that song .
Bruh, Stealth is Waaaaaaay better in FC4. The dual takedown exists when done from below. But when done from above, you can now chain takedowns and do Knife throw/Handgun takedowns on enemies. You couldn't do that with Far Cry 3's Death From Above takedown. Chain takedown after a death from above is basically a better version of dual death from above from FC3. Plus, you now have baits and throwing knives making stealth way better in 4.
@@leonpaelinck the one thing that really bothered me with the ledge takedown in FC4 is that when I’m about to do the takedown, the icon would pop up for me to do it but when I click RS sometimes the icon would just randomly disappear so I end up just slaying my machete at the wall and I get spotted. Very annoying when I was trying to liberate outposts undetected.
The mechanic of carrying bodies in FC4 just proof that stealth in FC4 got a big upgrade and is way better than 3 I know you can carry bodies after a takedown in FC3 but sometimes you can't do it

Honestly my favorite thing about farcry 4 is undoubtedly the lore which on an historical and even mythological plan is really well developed and I like it because you don't simply discover the characters' story but the whole world's story

I don't understand why the protagonist point was given to Ajay Ghale, who has no personalilty or character growth, who is just looking to spread his mother's ashes while Jason Brody has much more engaging personality and character growth, he was enjoying with his friends one day and the other day battling for his life, learning to survive, killing people and in the end started enjoying that ruthless killing and became more connected to the Rakyat than his own friends ( this can be understood by the fact that at the end we get a choice to either kill our friends or not ). Ajay Ghale seemed like a forced personality, not much depth to his character, blindly helping the golden path just for the sake of it, doesn't seem much motivation in his actions and choices.
Watching this make me want to play far cry 4 again. I remember playing it for the first time and man it was amazing feeling! I feel like I was there on the himalayas.
I disagree partially with your synopsis of the protagonists. I honestly felt the starting character of Jason Brody was kind of relatable though he goes to a killing machine much to fast for someone that has, and I quote, "Never shot anyone before."
Missions in far cry 3 were so engaging..it's like you are fighting to achieve something(saving your friends) but in far cry 4 missions are not so interesting except the SHANGRI-LA which is much better than the fight with ink monster in FC3.. The golden path in FC4 were main antagonists for whom Ajay fought with royal army.. its like he is making his own quest difficult by helping golden path.

FC1, not really. It's more like a spiritual prequel to Crysis and hasn't aged that well. FC2, most definitely. In some ways yes, it hasn't aged that well but in other ways IMO it's the best in the series. The immersion aspect is through the roof and it's limitations are also a strength because you don't have things like weapon customization which forces you to actually think your approach. It's also much more challenging game over all. Basically the game is "mercenary simulator" and it does it really well. I highly recomend it. The gameplay and the general feel of the game is fantastic, even though the story is quite boring and the characters are bland.
I think protagonist should go to the FC3, personally because, i think Grant's death has a huge impact on Jason's mentality, and him torturing Riley made him reflect of who had he become, and his message after the Save your friends ending really has that punch in the gut feel, he felt resentment towards his actions, Unlike Ajay, let's say he let pagan escape, and goes after Sabal or Amita in which case Tirtha or Jalendu Temple, I'm actually grateful Ubisoft gave us an option to kill them after the cutscene, He's just shocked (possibly mad) for what Sabal or Amita was planning for themselves and then you're just like "It's over idk wtf to do now, i wish ubisoft told us the aftermaths." (But meh screw it, ajay has the balls to laugh at a dead mans wife and feel no remorse, im sure ubisoft laughed their asses while making that one lol)
The reason why I like 4 is because of its detailed environment like when you kill someone vultures will actually go to the bodies and eat it. plus you can actually burn the trees like in fc2.
Far Cry 4 is my favorite game in the series. It is mindblowing how good this game looks to this day with all this Asian-Himalaya style. Fun gameplay, many guns and all that good stuff.
fc4 protagonist is so much worse than jason like its so blank. guy randomly starts doing missions for everyone and fighting in war who does that? lol. in fc3 you can even sympathizee with jason, how he slowly descendess into madness killing bunch of people not even thinking about it, but he is doing it to survive. in game like far cry you need good story , good gameplay and good , deep characters. in fc4 everyone except antagonist is trash and even he hardly has any screen time. honestly how unnatural fc4 protagonist's reactions and decisions are is ruining game for me. but still great gameplay started playing today and did half of the map, not side quests yet. p.s far cry is one of my fav franchise i enjoyed every game and each of them had its ups and downs. except new dawn fuck that shit. best far cry game would be game with far cry 3 story and characters, 4 gameplay, 5 music and visuals, 6 crazy weapons and 2 details. there's still so many things to say but it's 2am and i'm slowly descending into madness. peace out.
Dude you dropped the ball big time on the protagonists. Jason had a whole personality and an arc, he went from a bratty rich insufferable douchbag to a bloodthirsty gun toting drug injecting badass mercenary of the jungle, he's no hero he's the victim of the island and even in the good ending he remarks upon the fact that no matter what he'll never be the same person again. Meanwhile Ajay had no growth whatsoever my guy literally was saying yes to anyone that asked him anything no questions asked and in the end he didn't suffer any loses or went through any significant turmoil.
I loved( and still love ) farcry 3 so much when I played it , and when farcry 4 released, the gameplay was a little bit repetitive and soundtracks felt dumped down , but I still loved it so much and far cry 4 became my favorite in the series.
In my opinion, while Far Cry 3 has a better campaign, with more varied and well structured main missions, Far Cry 4 has a better sandbox, with a more interesting map, traversal options and gameplay opportunities.
I think it's that using the scoring system you used it should have been 6,6 because I agree with every thing except the protagonist I think Jason brody was much better than ajay because you could actually see the character grow and get more accustom to the rook islands and killing.
To me FC4 is an evolution of 3. It did everything 3 did well, improved upon it, worked on the things 3 did poorly, and added new things on top of that exactly what a sequel is supposed to do. Although both of these games are incredible and I would certainly take them both over Far Cry 5 any day, though 5 did have it's moments.

FC3 is better. It has better story, better music, better characters, and tropical setting on island fits a game like this more, as it gives you that Rambo feel. Also FC3's main story missions were more memorable.

No way Far Cry 4 has a better protagonist. At the begining of far cry 3 Jason Brody is a college kid who's never hurt anyone in his life just trying to save his friends. As the game progresses he gets a feel for killing bad guys and actually refuse to go home with his friends because he sees the island as his home. The arc is so drastic and its fun to play seeing Jason change so much.
Awesome video man, I actually own farcry 4, 5, new dawn and primal already waiting in line for me to play them. Was on the fence about getting farcry 3 but thanks to you i might skip it and jump right into farcry 4. Level design gets better and better throughout the franchise. Just played 3 and realized how much they have evolved the different approaches you can utilize in the later games til playing this one now. Plus i love to explore the 4 and 5s enviornments more as they all have different stories to tell. I dont discredit 3 in any way i just believe they have evolved in ways not everyone gives ubisoft credit for. Plus the whole 3rd villian popping up after vass was mood killer for me. I had no idea who the 3rd villian was nor remember his name and i just played it. I love all far crys they are getting better at making it to where we tell are own stories between the story they are trying to tell and i love that cause i rememeber the silly goofy awesome chaotic stuff most over story lines in most games anyhow.
After playing Far Cry 4, Far Cry 3, Far Cry Primal, and Far Cry 5 in that order, I strongly believe Far Cry 3 has the best main story. The character development of Jason and the storyline involving the choice between friends and personal desires like revenge impressed me the most. In comparison, Far Cry 4's character development felt too simple. Additionally, Far Cry 3 had better villains. While both games have similar gameplay, I found Far Cry 4's side missions to be higher quality. Both games have great open worlds, but I strongly prefer Far Cry 3's soundtrack for its perfect fit with the story. My ranking for the games would be: Far Cry 3 > Far Cry 4 > Far Cry 5 > Far Cry Primal Thanks for reading my opinion
Even though you gave more points to FC4, I still think FC3 got the more important points like the story and the antagonist. Also for me, the over all atmosphere and just the feel of the game is better in FC3 and that's why I like FC3 more than 4, even if 4 is technically a better version of the same game.
Good review. The only things I'd disagree with are that Far Cry 4 didn't have multiple different Big Bads (what do you call Noore, Paul De Pluer, and Yuma Lau?). And I liked the soundtrack of Far Cry 3 better. It was more foreboding and mysterious, plus the "I'm Sorry" theme that plays while the credits roll is epic.
The setting and atmosphere as well as the overall pacing and progression of 3 is still unmatched to me 4 lost my interest really quick because it felt just like three, but set in a place I was less excited to explore

7:20 that soundtrack was so good that I set it as my morning alarm. When it rings you have to get up to shut that thing off.. even my parents wake up bc it's soo loud
I didn't finish 4 (I did finished 3 & 5). The think 4 was "too many" - too many npc walking on the road, too many wild animals attacks. I could not walk a few minutes & not got attacked by animals or being call back to defend a stronghold. In 3, I liked the quite moments, which let me admired the screen. I also made the animal attacked more of a surprised. In 3, the pacing between the down time & crazy gun fight was perfect.
there were plenty of humble, quiet moments in fc4 though? I remember driving to a campaign mission, using the mountains as faster gliding for my wingsuit as I admired the mountains and trees. I felt that the npc moments helped WAY MORE then they would've in farcry 3. You see these NPC's living their daily life, getting caught up in the gunfire from the revolution and royal soldiers. Getting attacked by Animals daily, making long truts through the roads. It made you feel like you were having an effect on people, that people actually lived in this country you're meant to be saving. It wouldn't have worked in FC3 because its basically a pirate and drug island. But you are still allowed to like FC3. They're very similar games.
No, your score would actually be 3 and 9 lol. Nobody, and I mean nobody says 3 has better gameplay. You gave that point to 3 because of the multiple takedown, but 4 still has that as a skill. Honestly my favorite thing about farcry 4 is undoubtedly the lore which on an historical and even mythological plan is really well developed and I like it because you don't simply discover the characters' story but the whole world's story
Far cry 3 soundtrack is very emotional to me, just like how it reminds you of your time when you played the game it does to me too, good times. Great video!!

I don't understand why the protagonist point was given to Ajay Ghale, who has no personalilty or character growth, who is just looking to spread his mother's ashes while Jason Brody has much more engaging personality and character growth, he was enjoying with his friends one day and the other day battling for his life, learning to survive, killing people and in the end started enjoying that ruthless killing and became more connected to the Rakyat than his own friends ( this can be understood by the fact that at the end we get a choice to either kill our friends or not ). Ajay Ghale seemed like a forced personality, not much depth to his character, blindly helping the golden path just for the sake of it, doesn't seem much motivation in his actions and choices.
Yes I also didn't like the fact Ajay doesn't have a personality, it felt like a step backwards.

I disagree partially with your synopsis of the protagonists. I honestly felt the starting character of Jason Brody was kind of relatable though he goes to a killing machine much to fast for someone that has, and I quote, "Never shot anyone before."

Missions in far cry 3 were so engaging..it's like you are fighting to achieve something(saving your friends) but in far cry 4 missions are not so interesting except the SHANGRI-LA which is much better than the fight with ink monster in FC3.. The golden path in FC4 were main antagonists for whom Ajay fought with royal army.. its like he is making his own quest difficult by helping golden path.

FC1, not really. It's more like a spiritual prequel to Crysis and hasn't aged that well.
FC2, most definitely. In some ways yes, it hasn't aged that well but in other ways IMO it's the best in the series. The immersion aspect is through the roof and it's limitations are also a strength because you don't have things like weapon customization which forces you to actually think your approach. It's also much more challenging game over all. Basically the game is "mercenary simulator" and it does it really well. I highly recomend it. The gameplay and the general feel of the game is fantastic, even though the story is quite boring and the characters are bland.
I think protagonist should go to the FC3, personally because, i think Grant's death has a huge impact on Jason's mentality, and him torturing Riley made him reflect of who had he become, and his message after the Save your friends ending really has that punch in the gut feel, he felt resentment towards his actions, Unlike Ajay, let's say he let pagan escape, and goes after Sabal or Amita in which case Tirtha or Jalendu Temple, I'm actually grateful Ubisoft gave us an option to kill them after the cutscene, He's just shocked (possibly mad) for what Sabal or Amita was planning for themselves and then you're just like "It's over idk wtf to do now, i wish ubisoft told us the aftermaths."
(But meh screw it, ajay has the balls to laugh at a dead mans wife and feel no remorse, im sure ubisoft laughed their asses while making that one lol)

The reason why I like 4 is because of its detailed environment like when you kill someone vultures will actually go to the bodies and eat it. plus you can actually burn the trees like in fc2.
Far Cry 4 is my favorite game in the series. It is mindblowing how good this game looks to this day with all this Asian-Himalaya style. Fun gameplay, many guns and all that good stuff.
The un cultural exchanging mission's soundtrack was fire
fc4 protagonist is so much worse than jason like its so blank. guy randomly starts doing missions for everyone and fighting in war who does that? lol. in fc3 you can even sympathizee with jason, how he slowly descendess into madness killing bunch of people not even thinking about it, but he is doing it to survive. in game like far cry you need good story , good gameplay and good , deep characters. in fc4 everyone except antagonist is trash and even he hardly has any screen time. honestly how unnatural fc4 protagonist's reactions and decisions are is ruining game for me. but still great gameplay started playing today and did half of the map, not side quests yet. p.s far cry is one of my fav franchise i enjoyed every game and each of them had its ups and downs. except new dawn fuck that shit. best far cry game would be game with far cry 3 story and characters, 4 gameplay, 5 music and visuals, 6 crazy weapons and 2 details. there's still so many things to say but it's 2am and i'm slowly descending into madness. peace out.
Far Cry 3 gets one point each for 3 exceptional villains: Vaas, Buck and Hoyt

Dude you dropped the ball big time on the protagonists. Jason had a whole personality and an arc, he went from a bratty rich insufferable douchbag to a bloodthirsty gun toting drug injecting badass mercenary of the jungle, he's no hero he's the victim of the island and even in the good ending he remarks upon the fact that no matter what he'll never be the same person again.
Meanwhile Ajay had no growth whatsoever my guy literally was saying yes to anyone that asked him anything no questions asked and in the end he didn't suffer any loses or went through any significant turmoil.
Jason was annoying to play as and when he died literally felt nothing for him his arc wasn’t that good but far cry protagonist aren’t really that good
I loved( and still love ) farcry 3 so much when I played it , and when farcry 4 released, the gameplay was a little bit repetitive and soundtracks felt dumped down , but I still loved it so much and far cry 4 became my favorite in the series.

In my opinion, while Far Cry 3 has a better campaign, with more varied and well structured main missions, Far Cry 4 has a better sandbox, with a more interesting map, traversal options and gameplay opportunities.

I think it's that using the scoring system you used it should have been 6,6 because I agree with every thing except the protagonist I think Jason brody was much better than ajay because you could actually see the character grow and get more accustom to the rook islands and killing.

To me FC4 is an evolution of 3. It did everything 3 did well, improved upon it, worked on the things 3 did poorly, and added new things on top of that exactly what a sequel is supposed to do. Although both of these games are incredible and I would certainly take them both over Far Cry 5 any day, though 5 did have it's moments.

Agree 100%. Far Cry 3 is a good game but Far Cry 4 is better and improved version of FC3. The winner is obvious. Many people consider FC3 to be better game than 4, because they connect it with their childhood and carefree time spent in front of PC. Greetings and good job as always in your movies !

FC3 is better. It has better story, better music, better characters, and tropical setting on island fits a game like this more, as it gives you that Rambo feel. Also FC3's main story missions were more memorable.
Ngl, I got mad when he picked Vaas over Pegan. Pegan is the best Far Cry villain of all time in my opinion

No way Far Cry 4 has a better protagonist. At the begining of far cry 3 Jason Brody is a college kid who's never hurt anyone in his life just trying to save his friends. As the game progresses he gets a feel for killing bad guys and actually refuse to go home with his friends because he sees the island as his home. The arc is so drastic and its fun to play seeing Jason change so much.
Everyone has differet taste, you know? People Prefer Ajay because he doesn't overexaggerate on things and keeps Calm even if Situation is intense.

Was on the fence about getting farcry 3 but thanks to you i might skip it and jump right into farcry 4. Currently playing the division 2, just finished my end game/grinding for higher equipment on the division 1 lol. Whatever you put out your subscribers will watch man, great stuff! Keep em coming haha
Level design gets better and better throughout the franchise. Just played 3 and realized how much they have evolved the different approaches you can utilize in the later games til playing this one now. Plus i love to explore the 4 and 5s enviornments more as they all have different stories to tell. I dont discredit 3 in any way i just believe they have evolved in ways not everyone gives ubisoft credit for. Plus the whole 3rd villian popping up after vass was mood killer for me. I had no idea who the 3rd villian was nor remember his name and i just played it. I love all far crys they are getting better at making it to where we tell are own stories between the story they are trying to tell and i love that cause i rememeber the silly goofy awesome chaotic stuff most over story lines in most games anyhow.

After playing Far Cry 4, Far Cry 3, Far Cry Primal, and Far Cry 5 in that order, I strongly believe Far Cry 3 has the best main story.
The character development of Jason and the storyline involving the choice between friends and personal desires like revenge impressed me the most. In comparison, Far Cry 4's character development felt too simple. Additionally, Far Cry 3 had better villains.
While both games have similar gameplay, I found Far Cry 4's side missions to be higher quality.
Both games have great open worlds, but I strongly prefer Far Cry 3's soundtrack for its perfect fit with the story.
My ranking for the games would be: Far Cry 3 > Far Cry 4 > Far Cry 5 > Far Cry Primal

Even though you gave more points to FC4, I still think FC3 got the more important points like the story and the antagonist. Also for me, the over all atmosphere and just the feel of the game is better in FC3 and that's why I like FC3 more than 4, even if 4 is technically a better version of the same game.

Good review. The only things I'd disagree with are that Far Cry 4 didn't have multiple different Big Bads (what do you call Noore, Paul De Pluer, and Yuma Lau?). And I liked the soundtrack of Far Cry 3 better. It was more foreboding and mysterious, plus the "I'm Sorry" theme that plays while the credits roll is epic.
The setting and atmosphere as well as the overall pacing and progression of 3 is still unmatched to me
4 lost my interest really quick because it felt just like three, but set in a place I was less excited to explore

As far as an evolution of the game, I don't know for felt like the exact same thing just with a different story and a different location. I preferred the tropical island setting

I didn't finish 4 (I did finished 3 & 5). The think 4 was "too many" - too many npc walking on the road, too many wild animals attacks. I could not walk a few minutes & not got attacked by animals or being call back to defend a stronghold. In 3, I liked the quite moments, which let me admired the screen. I also made the animal attacked more of a surprised. In 3, the pacing between the down time & crazy gun fight was perfect.
there were plenty of humble, quiet moments in fc4 though? I remember driving to a campaign mission, using the mountains as faster gliding for my wingsuit as I admired the mountains and trees. I felt that the npc moments helped WAY MORE then they would've in farcry 3. You see these NPC's living their daily life, getting caught up in the gunfire from the revolution and royal soldiers. Getting attacked by Animals daily, making long truts through the roads. It made you feel like you were having an effect on people, that people actually lived in this country you're meant to be saving. It wouldn't have worked in FC3 because its basically a pirate and drug island. But you are still allowed to like FC3. They're very similar games.

No, your score would actually be 3 and 9 lol. Nobody, and I mean nobody says 3 has better gameplay. You gave that point to 3 because of the multiple takedown, but 4 still has that as a skill. It's also not the fault of the game that you couldn't run it properly, it's mind-blowing on Series X and runs 60fps. Far Cry 3 has a more focused story, that is it.
