I meant to say ION - may be my accent or excitement. The video had to be shot in one take - there's a lot to think about and multi-tasking is a challenge for me. 😂 Thanks for the PXGeo information. Hope we made an interesting video. Perhaps we need to revisit this topic when we have more time,,,,
Seismic blasting had a big impact on the rock lobster industry in the early 2000s big qouta cuts millions gone from fishermen in bass strait Victoria 😡
A similar corporate devouring of the little geophysical survey outfits has occurred throughout the last 30 years whereby several dozen outfits who flew airborne surveys eventually became two. That is why very few exploration sulphide successes are announced because few juniors are big enough to afford the outrageous fees now required to be forked over to conduct previously affordable surveys. Without competition the hydrocarbon industry is in the same fiscal boat as the sulphide exploration industry. What is worse is that because the interpreters of the seismic surveys have limited job oppurtunity's they eventually leave their respective industry in their droves. All the imagery and data in the world is meaningless if you do not have skilled, curious geophysical interpreters dedicated to delineating blind orebody's. The TGS/PGS merger monopoly of the global seismic database is an absolute shocking disaster for your industry though I suspect that one of the majors will eventually snap them up when they get tired of being ripped off to gain access to the data. Working on a multi client project with one of the companies mentioned in a south east asia country at the moment….in this particular country yes the MC lease expires in 10 years time. So when they get the lease they have 10 years to do the reprocessing and sell the MC library. After 10 years they’ll lose the right to sell the MC data, but by then the processing will be obsolete anyway and maybe they will do a repro again by that time😅
Thats how it seems to work Reprocess the Multiclient and claim the upgrade resets the clock. The industry is not impressed. Particularly when the reprocessing yields minor upgrades at best. I would far sooner the specialist reprocessing houses have a shot at reprocessing the data. They may be able to spend more time to unlock the real data and suppress the noise etc. (I'm not a geophysicist as you have no doubt gathered by now).
I thought they just dropped cages in North sea with drills to penetrate the silt & see how far the bedrock is below. Once they know where the limestone is? Didn't realise it involved seismic work etc.
Well there is an amazing amount of physics, math, engineering and computational power that goes into modern seismic acquisition and processing Terry. All way over my head! But the results are amazing. They enable the deepwater finds with exploration wells costing ~$200 million a piece and leading to billion barrel discoveries. Deep pockets are needed to undertake oil & gas exploration in such places.
Some rather glaring errors. TGS bought ION not IKON… TGS has far more OBN experience than PGS…. Showing some bias in your comments which is disappointing I think you will find the NDR issue is being paused by others and forcing retrospective clauses changes the economics of a multi-client acquisition R&D is ongoing and if you are loosing money, your ability to invest is limited , so operators would have to pay more, but aren’t willing to pay a premium for streamer technology Rather Europe biased in your office location comment
Thanks of your comments which are here for all to see. I apologies for some errors that crept in and unintentional omissions. Mea culpa. To fully understand the intricacies of this merger it would require board-level knowledge, which I clearly do not have. Others may wish to add comments below.
There certainly has been reporting of seismic data to the UK NDR by commercial acquisition companies. Since 2018 there has been an obligation under regulations to report processed data acquired in relation to both production and exploration licences. Such data would become eligible for release after 10 years. You can’t see it, but it is there.
Coupls of points..
1) TGS bought ION Geophysical not iconic geophysical
2)Polarcus became PXGeo with remaining vessels

@@mikecooper2093 as usual very informative video. I love all of your videos. Thanks!
Many thanks for your continued support

No over-fishing then? All down to seismic? I imagine surveys are few and far between now - are there signs of recovery?
Yes lobster industry has improved a lot , when a female release her eggs it take about 7 years for them to be come legal sizes

Interesting what you see has happened in airborne surveys Rory. Thank you for your contribution and continued support. ATB, Mike
Don’t need it in bass strait Victoria, there’s plenty of gas government just needs to stop sending %70 overseas for nothing 🤔
I don't imagine the government are giving gas away....
@@TROVE-1stSubsurface I bet the Australian are paying more for gas than what it going overseas for

I challenge any seismic company management to swim beside the Seismic blast💥🤪because they expect the marine life to do so
I invite the acquisition seismic companies to respond on TROVE news.... Tell the world the steps taken to avoid harming marine life.
