Interesting to hear that Harbour have Trove! Any idea who they're checking out? :-) I heard a suggestion today that Enquest would make a lot of sense.

Hi Tom. TROVE is a database with details on every oilfield, gasfield, discovery on the planet. It is not a tool for valuing M&A deals per se. But as a tool to understand where, what companies have - it's great to be able to ascertain what assets companies have and what they consist of. Harbour & EnQuest - first reply nominating a potential merger. EnQuest have a lot of assets at end of life and decommissioning. Magnus & Kraken area are the major assets. A deal would certainly bolster their position.

@@TROVE-1stSubsurface The rationale I heard is that Enquest needs help with debt repayment, but also has tax losses which would be of more immediate value to Harbour.

Exxon and Chevron merge at Guyana --- the Standard Oil V2

Not quite the Rockefeller Empire of the original Standard Oil (hence "SO" or "Esso" but there were many more companies to come out of the split than just this one). In today's world of oil & gas there are majors, mid-caps, small caps but most interestingly NOC's. There may be scope for local domination, but there is little scope for worldwide monopolies like there was in the historic past. The big corporations are getting bigger though. Perhaps scale is a necessity to grow and prosper in the modern age.

Many say CCS is a necessity. The economic justification to sanction a project is currently not obvious.
