Great video! And yes, I'm tired of the Etsy ads with the fiery glass makin guy, too. I'm like, he isn't Etsy in human form. And love the way NONE of the design awards were paper crafters, digital creators.....which makes for quite a chunk of their revenue. Nuts.
Hi Kara! First of all I want to thank you for all that you do for so many. I feel sure most of us feel like you’re the only honest TH-camr about Etsy and you give a lot of great information & tutorials…. My suggestion for the gift guide is having something to do with “Anniversaries” which I would imagine other members would have gift items for. I make a kind of niche area of anniversaries as I make items for the Cotton anniversary, which is the second anniversary. I would imagine there are members that would sell items there for first anniversary… The fourth is an interesting one as well with fruit/peach gifts …I also make peach pit ornaments..but other members may have jewelry, greeting cards, etc.. Then, of course, there is silver and gold anniversaries. Also, “Ornaments” as Christmas is coming. Definitely a Bill, Holiday Lanes area.. Just suggestions from an appreciative follower…& War Eagle!
now, when I think about it, maybe Etsy is forcing shipping lower than 6 dollars because of that member program. How I understand it, Etsy is going to cover shipping cost in that program so they want it to be as lower as possible. Loyal membership is for US buyers and sellers and 6 dollars shipping is also applied only for US domestic. Maybe, who will know with Etsy. When thay say it is ranking factor everybdy will freak out and lower shipping cost.
@@marijancemarija3792 I sell watercolor paint and stickers so the generally fall under the $6 for ground advantage. I rarely have anyone request priority mail. I think even my Coloring books can ship for under $6 to most states unless they would get two of them but that hasn’t happened in the 7 years I have been selling them.
What frustrates me about these new seller requirements for search is that, for a neurodiverse person with protection under the ADA, it’s very disheartening to log in and see “room for improvement.” Duh. I know I’m slow. There’s a reason for that. Plus, I teach kids with disabilities, and we’d be sued in a heartbeat. Shouldn’t Etsy back off trying to be the end all for how we run our shops? And, shouldn’t they recognize the ADA and DEI? It’s getting to be more and more like I said before, some public school administration and state regulations. If they don’t hop in the trenches with us, they should stand back. It’s getting really hard to be okay with all this BS to run a shop. 🤬 The bot doesn’t help, either. I wish we could contact a real person.
PS Thank you for your time creating these live sessions and podcasts for us. I love your snark and “real” talk. It’s like an Etsy break room. 😂 And a safe space.
Hello I m an artist and want to open etsy account and my sister is in USA and I ask etsy they say it's ok but if she open a shop and I supply my art work from my country, problem is that she don't have time to run the shop so can I run from my country using proxy and is that big crime or its OK
I wouldn’t do that if you’re in a country that isn’t allowed to sell on Etsy. Find a different platform to sell on because Etsy will shut your shop down eventually and all your work will go to waste.
Why would ppl pay to shop on etsy if they don’t even shop on etsy? I wouldn’t pay to shop at JC Penney. I shop there about once a year. This is very dumb. 😂
Why would you pay for a membership if you're not already buying there regularly?!? I don't get that. We have one membership and we use it all the time (NOT Amazon). It has to be a good value if I'm going to pay. 🙃
So then all the lawyers and others that are all over IG saying how small business owners can be sewed for not have alt text and being ADA compliant is just a scare tactic??
You theoretically can be sued, but it’s unlikely, and if you’re filing things out the right way on your website you should be fine. On Etsy it’s Etsys problem.
Always great information! I have a question. When my husband tried to find my store on Etsy he couldn't. He typed in my shop name and nothing. I get sales though. Shop open for years. But no results when searching my shop name. What's with that?
They’ve made it pretty difficult to find shops. On the app you have to type it in and filter to search for shops, which isn’t intuitive. On desktop it will sometimes show up below the first row of suggested listings, but other times you have to tap the search bar again to get it to ask of you want shops with that name.
The decision tree for alt text is here: www.w3.org/WAI/alt/

Those are good ideas, I’ll look into it!
I’m glad I watched this. I’ll skip alt text for Etsy going forward. Thank you! Also I appreciate your work on here. The no bs approach is rare :)
Yes, I hear you

It's definitely possible!

@feedthebirdies, you make some good points!

Offer it to those of us who DO buy on Etsy regularly! 😂 I would love to get one! (Though I can't imagine paying to buy on Etsy.)

Also the chat isn’t showing so I don’t see the link Bill posted can you add it here?
I added it in the comments
