  • This video displays the process I used to align outboard propeller blades using easy to build tools. This is a quick simple way of averaging out rake and pitch.
*Update June 2023* Plans to build these tools can be acquired for free via email request. Visit - sites.google.com/site/theprop...

Great job for those like me who prefer to spend the whole weekend repairing a $100 buck prop.

    great vid.
Would you suggest a starting point propeller for a 18 foot Boston Whaler with a 200 hp yamaha for all around best performance in salt water.

Thomas Harrell Hi Thomas, thank you for your feedback. I have long since retired from the propeller industry which has allowed me to now openly share all my experiences online. There has been a lot of changes in propeller sizes, designs, blade numbers, engine models, types and configurations since then so I can’t give you that perfect recommendation for best performance. Having said that, when I had my business the first thing I would be wanting to know is how the rig was already performing. What is the engines Maximum Achievable Rpm with average load, average trim angle, average conditions, how does it currently perform in rough weather, how quickly does it jump out of the water, what size pitch propeller is already fitted? If it doesn’t fall within common specs I would want to examine the rig to ensure the motor had been fitted to the right height, engine was mechanically sound, and to check out the hull to see if there were any irregularities in the design, any pods fitted, or stabilizers. Having looked at that we can then explore options for better performance. We might consider for general applications to raise the engine slightly and fit a performance propeller. This may be a multi blade ventilation propeller type. Usually a hand full of propellers and test trials are the best options. Thanks again.

Is the rake gauge homemade or is it a bought unit?
