Read Lanegan's memoir. He was roommates with Dylan back in the early 90s in a house in Seattle. Earth would be practicing in the basement and Mark would fall asleep listening from two stories above. When he'd wake up, the bed had moved completely across the room from the massive amplifier volume that shook the house.

Where have you read that? Is there a book about? Lanegan, Carson and Cobain were the trio!

One classy tune from Earth . Always been my favorite song by Earth. That heroin voice of Mark and the overloads of guitars makes me happy.

I had the privilege of hearing this a couple years ago at Taft Theater in Cincy. Got to meet Dylan Carlson before the show too and he's an awesome guy, I'll never forget it, if you have a chance to see Earth go see em, I highly recommend it!

Very strange want to like earth, as I am massive Lanegan fan and I know Dylan is his friend, but I just don't get Earth
Just non melodic noise to me
    Painful

see them live, it may change your opinion

    • @jaredhinton5662

It's a different listening experience. I would argue that it has some similarities with techno or Indian/traditional long form/drone music. When you listen, you get lost in the experience. It's repetitive and noisey. There's not always a lot going on. But when listening, it slowly starts to make sense. It's like watching Bob Ross paint. Well, Bob Ross in hell. You're just watching these little things happen. But by the end of the song/album, you have a whole painting in your mind, built slowly and intricately. And it's incredibly beautiful in its own way, in a way that more normal kind of music can't pull off. So yeah, it may require retraining as a listener to appreciate this.
I hope this comment doesn't sound pretentious. And I don't mean to say this music is perfect and you're wrong for disliking it. Nothing is for everybody. But if you were to want to get into it, I think my explanation can help you understand it on its terms.

It's music for ambience, not melody.

@@pottedsalad I actually liked them less after seeing them live. Same with Godspeed You! Black Emperor, who I've also seen. This is music that I relax in a chair while vibing to, and I don't think it translates well to a live setting.
