Wow! Just found your channel after searching "Kaldheim Draft Guide," this is a super professional vibe you've got! Loved the messages of safety and support for local games stores too. Can't offer much beyond some kind words and a subscribe, but congrats! You should be proud of the work you've done.

Please don't use this as a guide! There are lots of issues with the information here. I'm not sure how it reached the publishing step. Look up some dedicated drafting resources, maybe, or check a limited streamer/their discord server.

@@simonchoi7141 I may have been too hasty. The video has a lot of factual information, but there's a lot of sketchy opinions. I made my remark as someone who has played a lot of limited, and a good amount of this set before it was out online. I realise that for a more casual player the video demonstrates exactly what the set is in a very straightforward way, my issue is when it gives information on how to draft it - that's the stuff I came to the video for.
1:50 Return upon the tide is not an early pick in this pack. It's not a great card in general, a 5 mana reanimate effect here just isn't very good, you're more likely to recur a cheaper creature than something worth the 5 mana. most 5 drops will be more consistent, and the tribal payoff that it's used as an example of is exemplified much better in the card next to it - Basalt Ravager.
2:13 This is completely incorrect. This is just a good card on its own. it's a serra angel for 1 mana less that gets better and better. The tribal payoff makes it an even _better_ card, yes, but you will run this in every single BW draft where you get your hands on it regardless.
7:34 I wouldn't really call that a secondary archetype, that hypes it up a bit more than there is actually support for in the set. Flying cards are still just flying cards, There's text on that rare, yes, that makes a neat synergy deck - but that's one card. You can't expect to open it so you shouldn't overreach and take worse cards for synergy reasons because they have flying. Additionally, disagree with the run ashore reccomendation. Bit expensive for an agressive deck, and doesn't particularly back it up with much of a punch.
Leading in to Rakdos from here, way too much weight is put on specific tribal synergy. This is not Zendikar rising. The set is much weaker on this, and the text on this rare talking about berserkers does _not_ imply a big berserker theme. These are rares. You try to build around them, but you are incredibly unlikely to see the specific one you want. They inform your decisions, and sometimes you might hope to see one, but you can't plan for them like this. there's no budget version uncommon that also gives you payoff this time.
As a more general rule for sets, signpost uncommons are great for telling what you're trying to get together in limited. Rares are not, they're sporadic, special and add spice to the format.
9:23 Green white is _not_ humans here, this is just incorrect! The video itself proceeds to show an array of cards whose common creature type is warrior, with a more marginal human representation.
11:43 Black green is not pretty straight forward: Elves. It _has_ elves. You can draft an elves deck - but perhaps more importantly, black green is within the snow part of the set. Black, green and blue all have great snow payoffs, and it's good here to think about the 3 colours as a set - don't draft all 3 at once, but it's very easy to move around within them, and splashing the one you're not high on for a powerful threat is more likely to be impactful, especially if one of your main colours is green. Yes, they have subthemes, but not mentioning snow here is a mistake. Black may be a bit weaker than blue and green for snow cards, but the deck still comes together nicely with all the great common support. It's not the afterthought it's presented as, I think the video as a whole is overrating the tribal synergies.
12:46 The reasoning here is backwards, cheap splashes are more dangerous for your mana curve, as you're less likely to have the fixing online to make them work. This would be fine, but the secondary casting cost option that _lets_ you cast the spell later on curve costs an additional mana of the base colour of the spell, which makes splashing with treasure much harder, Sketchy and inconsistent, not a good recommendation for new players. Tiny card evaluations like that are much harder to make on the fly when there's pressure to pass your pack. Red is absolutely splash enabling in this set - but the tie-in with red white and equipments made here just isn't really true. There's things you can do splashing in a red green deck, mentioned earlier. This is where it's at for red splashing, as both it and green have good support.
13:50 this is such a strange selection of cards to splash here, the power level and feasibility is all over the place. Skemfar shadowsage _really isn't_ Gray merchant, and calamity bearer costs 2 red pips to cast.
14:10 More under repping snow and overrepping zombies I think. They deserve equal mention here. Using rares as examples is still iffy, and the general selection of cards used as examples popping up on screen throughout the video are just kinda off. They don't reflect what you see popping up in good decks well enough. Clear the first 3 were picked just because they're zombies. 2 paths: mill and reanimator, again, framing is wrong. Snow is a big part of the set. More rares as examples, misleading.
15:20 Path to the world tree is a bad card. The payoff is incredibly hard to hit, 7 mana with WUBRG. And it's not even worth it. You pick this card up when you're in a mad 4-5 colour deck late in the draft, maybe, if you already have the support for it and it compliments well. It's a genuinely atrocious early pick. You can't pick it up and expect to be in a mad fixing deck, there will almost definitely be something more likely to be useful in a pack, if you're not hitting its ability you're paying something that fetches snow for an entire card and 2 mana, and that's just too low impact to be playable. take replicating ring instead. Not an _amazing_ card, but does what you'd want this card to do infinitely better, simply by being a snow mana rock.
16:24 I assume he misspoke? This 3/3 doesn't come out turn 2, it comes out turn 3. fortell t2, cast t3. Barely worth mentioning, but it perplexed me.
      17:06 withercrown is a joke.
That's most of what I picked up. Again, this is what I saw out of what I came to the video for, there's still good info here for new players. Just a bunch of misleading/incorrect strategy.

👍👍👍 The information in this video ramps quite smoothly in the beginning, and carries through to a really great midrange state of comprehension assistance. The win-con at the end could quite possibly destabilize you via excessive mirth so, beforehand, make sure your center of gravity is low to the ground (if possible) by bending your knees and centering your mass above your feet, which are both best positioned shoulder-width apart. Alternatively, a nice chair with at least three legs may also be used, as it can be used to provide support when the solar plexus starts to involuntarily palpitate 👍👍👍

Hi Prof, I enjoyed the video as always but I had some grievances with a few of your points in this video. One is that the main tribe for G/W seems to actually be warriors and not humans as you claim it is, which would be relevant to know if you are drafting around an early pick Rally the Ranks or Realmwalker for instance. Another is that you included a number of the set/theme booster exclusive cards like Elven Ambush in your guide, which will not be showing up in draft boosters.

Hi professor! I am a new player who just started playing a few weeks ago, and I attended my first pre-release event today. I had a ton of fun! I have watched a lot of your videos and there is so much great information! I did feel bewildered though, and although that has largely subsided, there is so much to take in for a new player that I don't think my experience was unique. I think a great video idea would be a 'primer' targeted specifically for brand new players looking to spend their money wisely.

Also, I feel you could have included how changeling works so that all are aware that blue shapeshifters make good Giants and additional Zombies and green shapeshifters are an easy way to increase your count of Elves. Other than that and your desire to mispronounce at least one thing without correcting yourself this was a great video.

3:10 - Foretell is Reverse-Echo, you pay up front and then you MIGHT pay later to get the effect. Morph leaves you with a 2/2 for 3; Foretell leaves you with esoteric discard hate. Make no mistake; Echo is a cost reduction mechanic... and so is foretell (usually); but while Echo gives you a reward you often don't need to pay the 2nd cost for; Foretell will just as easily give cost you 2 mana and give you no reward.

Did you really just say not to take Firja’s Retribution if you don’t have other Angel support? The card is a massive bomb by itself, making a 4/4 with flying and vigilance for only 4 mana immediately and then potentially destroying a creature later. If you can cast Firja’s Retribution you 100% should take it and play it- the card is INSANE.

2:14 o_O uhhh....as long as you can reasonably cast it, you should never ever ever EVER pass Firja’s Retribution. You absolutely don’t need other angels. That card would be amazing even with just chapter 1, and the other two chapters are both insane too!

Firjas Retribution is good enough to take even if you have no other angels.

That card is the biggest bomb in the set. With 0 angels

When I pressed Subscribe, I had to submit 3 forms of ID, proof of insurance, and 3 months worth of pay stubs to prove I wanted to subscribe. I was visited by a very short man in a turtle neck who asked me 3 security questions my psychiatrist drafted up based on my last several years of therapy, so only I would know the answers. I got one wrong, and now I have to go back to therapy.

Extra tip for anyone drafting tribal!
    U/R Giants
    B/G Elves
    U/G Changelings
These are the only tribes with enough support to make a strong draft deck.

Such a great set to draft with... same with strixhaven, yet low power level to hold value in the future.

Another really interesting and accessible video! I'm relatively new to MTG and currently just play Jumpstart. I love the look of this set and I'm seriously considering getting a booster box to really kickstart my time with the game. Would you say this is a wise decision Professor, or would I be better off taking another approach to getting a large number of cards to deck build & generally learn and have fun with?

"Elven Ambush" is not in Draft boosters, so it shouldn't appear in Draft and Sealed.

I like that you can basically draft EDH with this set, as your mostly likely to get a legendary in each pack. Same for Strixhaven.

I did my first ever 3 sealed drafts in Arena. Won the first at 7-2 despite my nerves, was actually shocked that I pulled it off. I won with blue green changeling synergy, won the final game with a huge combo utilizing Alrund's Epiphany with a bunch of elves and shapeshifters on board, finishing it off with the Elvish Warmaster's ability, it was blissful.
My 2nd playthrough was, way worse. Couldn't find my identity, ended up going 0-3 lol.
3rd playthrough was once again blue green despite having better rares and mythics in red black. Went 5-3 which is good enough for me.
Either way, WotC/Hasbro/Xsolla has got me hooked and i'll probably continue to dump money into these gems although i've only bought the 2 best value packs so far. Part of me wonders how much of the game's algorithms are designed to make people keep buying gem packs.
