    One of the most realistic cases of hacking I ever saw in a movie:
    - a program written by someone that knew the system
    - that still had to be delivered into a physically well protected location (that control room)
    - and carried a single line of pure, SQL doom. That could be quickly changed on the fly with a text editor/input prompt.

      @@oninoni NPCs are making sure that populations will increase along with maximum suffering via breeding like unconscious animals.
      There is no worse crime than bringing a child into this existence full of evil. When you give birth to a child you are basically allowing them to be potentially harmed by all of the immoral monsters that inhabit this prison plane of existence. By giving birth you are putting your child at risk for being a victim of a rapist, murderer, abuser, etc. The breediots who force these potential risks upon their children without their consent are clearly immoral bastards who have no legitimate consideration for the well-being of their children.
      Religious nutcases’ ‘logic’:
      "Everyone is born a sinner "
      "Sin is what causes us to suffer"
      "Let's be fruitful & multiply to create countless suffering sinners"
      Humans are born with sin. Sin is bad. Is it a good thing to create more sin through breeding like animals?
      Gawd: Hates sin more than anything bc it's against his nature (but he still kinda created it oops)
      Also Gawd: makes a rescue plan that doesn't even get rid of sin and expects all of humanity to kiss his ass for it (or burn in all eternity)
      Yeah no thank you. Life is a gift bag full of poop and maggot vomit!

      @@timfrank7461 I recall reading a few where the story was similar to that, though i can't rightly recall any names due to my failing memory, Sorry bout that. what I do remember, vividly, was that they where not stories you'd find in the main stream, not something your casual reader would ever want to read. They fit more as Psychological deep dives into how people work, how they acted and how they eventually broke, and you could only really find them on the various obscure reading sites out there that aren't big enough to worry about being censured.
      I tend to dive very deep to find stories from certain obscure genre's.
      Some of them are frankly horrifying, and the death of the main character brings about immense relief because of the pain they suffered was finally ending, or in others it make you sad for days or weeks on end at the injustice of their end, when all they had wanted to do was save the world.
      A shame we don't see more of them, Genuinely well written stories with believable characters.
      I can only stomach so much of the copy and paste power trip fantasies out there nowadays where everything is all unnatural joy, the author lives out their baser fantasies by implanting themselves into the book, and the characters feel like 1 dimensional mascots, instead of people, for the author to play god with.

    The director, Neill Blomkamp, got the idea for the movie when we and his friend were caught, extorted and dropped off outside of the town by Mexican police, and they walked back to their hotel through dark, dangerous and terribly poor part of Mexican town but their horizon was an illuminated, walled US border. He imagined living in these slums, looking at the border and dreaming to get there one day.

      Difference is, unlike Elysium, anyone can come to the US. All you have to do is get a green card, which is not some impossible task. Once you have that, you can get naturalized to become a full US citizen. Also unlike Elysium, the US is happy to have you immigrate and become a citizen, so long as you're actually willing to work and contribute meaningfully to society and aren't just coming to free load off the work of others.

    • @qdllc
      @qdllc ปีที่แล้ว +103

      I love how they said this movie was about the evil of the 1%. In truth, the 99.999% of humanity turned the world into an overpopulated cesspool. The people on the station could not maintain total control over them, so the quality of life on earth was largely the product of those living there. The few who built the station chose to separate from humanity, and even if they wanted to share their technology, it would have to be rationed to the most dire of cases because there is no way to provide for everyone.

    • @woolfoma
      @woolfoma ปีที่แล้ว +123

      Not quite true, each of just the three shuttles had at least two dozen beds that could heal the worse of a humans ailments in under a minute, all without using anything but power. The benefit to humanity of the dispatched shuttles is at least a million peoples worst medical conditions treated each week for no economic costs. That's a billion people treated of terminal disease in 20 years with only 72 beds. It's the **speed** of the medical procedure and the fact that it's literal re-atomization, which means the device clearly wouldn't be capable of wearing out, since re-arranging organic atoms in an entire body at once is well above self repairing technology levels. These people are holding back star trek levels of fabricate anything (including more fabricators) from raw feedstock and forcing billions to work for a pittance. This release of technology would have saved everyone.

    • @sorcerous8401
      @sorcerous8401 ปีที่แล้ว +58

      That's not the full point of the end. It's about the 1% no longer being able to hoard their technology and now its access is for more people to do good with. Its a message about privatised health care and why it's a horrible in humane thing for the wider population.
      Elysium serves as a stand in for america, capitalist driven and focuses on hoarding wealth and power for the few while the many suffer under them. Instead of building many apartments on the space station to fit millions of people, they build nice gardens and pools for only a few thousand

      @qdllc ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@sorcerous8401 - That what people think, but I see a massive earthbound population that was in a downward spiral by their own choices. The people on the station controlled much, but they didn’t control the masses. Lawlessness was the rule for most of the planet. That’s not the elite 1% doing that…it’s the 99% choosing that. If you examine many 3rd world nations, while dictators and warlords might hold power, they couldn’t withstand the populace if it revolted. The population chooses to live in oppression rather than risk death to overthrow their oppressors. We saw this In Afghanistan…so few willing to fight for a free country, and when we left, it fell to the Taliban immediately.
      Those wanting to blame others for their problems always want to point to some oppressive boogie man, but the reality is that we make our own choices, and society becomes what we are willing to tolerate.

      What does this movie have anything to do with it?
      US healthcare you have many options. No hospital can legally turn someone away. It's one main reason why ERs are often filled with people abusing it for everything. USA also has more charities donations then anywhere on this planet. You guys really need to stop hating on stuff because you are told. I lived in the "free" healthcare world and its awful. You have to buy private or go on a death waiting list because the "free" is managed like everything else government does (horribly). Cant really blame them.. anything that is given money for free with no regards to quality, services or the product itself will always be awful.
      Movie was more about Kings and peasants then anything.. could even say communism if we really wanted to push some political crap like yourself.
      This movie had elites locked away in rich mansions and the very poor lived on earth. The very poor could never be anything other then very poor (just like communism). No promotions, no middle class, no growth. You are just forever in poverty and then you die... unless your "leaders" let you up.

    • @michaelestrella8667
      @michaelestrella8667 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bobshanery5152 you clearly don't understand what a joke is. I will be generous and allocate (give) some of my time to explain it to you in layman terms so you can sleep at night. First I will explain the financial aspect of why the US should have a better healthcare system, then explain the statistical (numbers) of how that is not the case, and finally summarize as a whole why my joke was humorous.
      To start the US has the world largest economy in terms of GDP (Gross Domestic Product, basically a measure of how much money it makes from selling goods each year) at just under 21 trillion US dollars. Now when we look at the number of billionaires in the world we see a similar scenario. The US has the worlds most billionaires at 724. This is a summary of the financial aspect as promised in my introduction.
      Now we will explore how the US compares to countries in a measure of its healthcare rankings. According to the 2023 rankings for national healthcare systems the US is at 18th on the list. Now given the financial power of the US it only seems logical that it should be ranked one of the best, if not the best healthcare system in the world. The US also has the highest average medical costs at just over $12,000 per year for each person, while Denmark (the highest ranked healthcare system) pays roughly half that per person.
      Finally, when someone on the internet (aka myself) makes a joke about a man dying while there is technology to cure him in a matter of minutes, simply because he cannot afford, it's funny because it reflects the current US healthcare system. He is not allowed access to treatment that can save him simply because he is not able to afford it. Money is placed as the priority over the health of all the individuals. Finally, this is a fictional (not real) movie, so by me comparing it to a modern day US healthcare system is part of the joke.
      Also you don't understand how communism works. At its very roots communism was designed to get rid of kings and peasants. It was meant to place everyone on equal ground financially and materially. If you were a successful merchant you didn't make more money than the struggling farmer. Money as a whole would be collected and redistributed to individuals in a mostly even manner.
      I hope you found this to be helpful, and now can understand why I made the satirical (sarcastic) joke and why it should be humorous (funny). If you want to learn more about your so called kings and peasants a great book to read is "The People of the Abyss" by Jack London. That shows a very accurate depiction of kings and peasants in the industrial revolution in London.

    One thing I didn't understand about the overall situation is that they don't show Elysium extracting large amounts of resources from the Earth to sustain itself; suggesting that the space station is self sustaining in some way other than perhaps some luxury finishes like the Italian marble they referenced in the middle of the movie. Also, with robots handling security, it shows that robotics could have handled ALL labor jobs and they were technologically capable of cleansing the planet of pollution and garbage. I understand not wanting to be "taken for a ride" by people who will never improve their own circumstances, but there comes a point in having such a callous attitude and no faith in your fellow man that the results of such a way of thinking begin to compound and you just spread misery. They could've fixed Earth's problems if they wanted to, but their ability to assert their will and authority over the poor was more important to them.

      Just my 2 cents, but when the robots entered the control room they told the human "officers" to stand down. When one didn't and even pointed his gun at the robots, the robots then subdued him. If the robots do not recognize Elysium officers authority to override Elysium law (and even not recognizing the President of Elysium ordering the override), then I doubt the robots would allow thugs on Earth to impede the duties of the robots. The EMS robots are being sent to help people of Earth. They'll know that not all humans in need will be able to reach them on their own (i.e the disabled or incapacitated). The EMS robots will find the humans in need. If the Earth thugs intervene, I'm sure security robots will ensure otherwise. Of course, we weren't shown the detailed workings and protocols of the robots, so perhaps the thugs could simply order the robots to stop helping the sick or something like that, but its unclear how much the robots protocols and duties supersede the orders of humans or now "Elysium Citizens."
