Before this interview, I thought Hansi Kürsch was probably one of the foremost singers currently performing that has taken extremely good care of his voice. On top of that, he's a super nerd. SUPER nerd, only rivaled to myself! What happens when two fantasy nerds who love talking about voice get together over tea? Find out in this 2 hour feast!

Hansi once got on Stage for the 30 year anniversary of the band "Rage", where I stood in the first row... collapsing from a week of beer and 40C°... the last thing I heard was his voice and than i woke up in the First Aid Tent... and than the nurse realized it is my birthday, so they all sang me the song... god that was embarassing... BUT: I made it onto the live DVD, and now as time has passed, i have a funny story to tell XD

I met Hansi at a hotel in Fortaleza 7 years ago. Blind Guardian went there for the Beyond The Red Mirror tour. I was in the hotel lobby, waiting for the band members, when Hansi appeared. I was almost losing sight of him, I called him at least three times, and then he heard and came towards me. He said "hey", from that moment we chatted for a bit. I remember he promised me that it would be a great night, and it really was. He is a very good and very kind person.
    We love you, Hansi! ❤

    Christmass came early this year.
Hansi is a true modern bard. He is an incredible singer, but his better trait is how good of a storyteller he is. He has the ability to make everything he sings in just that much better, no matter what it is, from Edguy, to Avantasia, to Ophaned Land, to Gamma Ray... The moment he stepss in, the song reaches a new level.
Love him. On top of that, he is such a humble and nice guy.

I got to see Hansi and the gang live a couple nights back. My city is pretty small, and the music scene isn't huge. I was kinda embarrassed, seeing the tiny stage and paltry crowd we had on offer as compared to what these guys are used to. But we did our best not to let them down, and they gave it their all, and it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me. I'm tearing up just remembering the atmosphere. Truly, I've never seen such two-way appreciation between a band and its fans. Blind Guardian are the greatest of all time. Thanks for this interview, both of you.

@@TheCharismaticVoice Have been adoring your videos, and I wanted to suggest perhaps exploring Adam Lambert's voice. He recently released a haunting cover of Duran Duran's Ordinary World, he is Queen's front man, has done musical theatre, is classically trained, and oozes charisma and stage presence. Many people think of him as "that guy that didn't win American Idol" or from Queen, and he is outrageously underrated. I think you'll enjoy his voice - it will be similar to falling down the Floor Jansen rabbit hole!

Hansi and Blind Guardian were a revelation for me. As an already devoted Tolkien nerd at 8 and a Nightwish fanatic at 9 (in 1998) both Tolkien and Power Metal were huge driving forces in my life, and when I discovered Nightfall in Middle Earth as an early teen it was like discovering the holy grail. Hansis voice is perfect for any fantasy music and he is truly THE bard of metal. A master of his craft.

  • @neanight222

I love this interview so much, this was so relaxing to watch, because both of you somehow have a calming presence and a very calm way of talking. 😊 Blind Guardian was one of the first metal bands I listened to when I was a kid and just discovered metal. I'm from Germany as well, so of course they were one of the first bands I found in that genre and being a huge fantasy fan, I loved the themes of their music of course. Back then I dreamt about getting to see them live and to be part of the "audience choir" singing The Bard's Song with Hansi one day. This year this dream finally came true and it was such a magical moment. My inner child/young teen came through and was so so happy to be experiencing this! ❤️✨
Also I'm just fascinated by all the things Hansi had to tell here. He has been doing this for more years than I'm even on this earth and he has so much to say, so much experience and he said he is STILL learning new things. He still has particular things he is studying and learning and trying to improve. He's so passionate about singing and music, so interested in the techniques and so dedicated to his craft and he's doing all this while finding ways to do it with his different health struggles and finding ways around those.
This was absolutely inspiring to me! Thank you so much, Elisabeth, for doing this interview and sharing it with us. ❤️
I lost touch with my own singing for a while, partly because of mental health struggles, but I hope to connect with that part of me again. And this interview definitely inspired me to try and begin that journey again.
Thank you again, Elisabeth and thank you for sharing your wisdom and experience with us, Hansi! 🙌

There are, of course, some albums I like more, but they are all at least good, not a single one that I dislike. “God Machine” was great. As a regular watcher, I really enjoyed this tea-time.
Hansi seems like a very nice, fun guy. I liked the parts when he explained his tequnice, and you always smiled because he said so many things you explained in other videos.

    Oh no way!
This is so cool to see. Hansi was the entire reason I got into metal in the first place and remains my all time favorite vocalist. Was really hoping you’d get a chance to talk with him directly eventually, but I didn’t actually expect it to happen!

Thank you so much for this interview! I am a Fan for 30 years, since I was a teenager back in Russia, where had to find your tapes and copy them from one to another. BG has given me life through the darkest times. Chanted your songs to get through to the other side. Still Dream of seeing you in concert. My friend saw you many times, cried every time. Dark Tower rules. And thank you for explaining about the bass. Thank you for everything and Love you forever!

When Hansi tells you to read the Dark Tower series, you read the Dark Tower series. 😛 Sure, it's not straight fantasy, but there are elements along with western, scifi, horror... also, I agree with Hansi, SK rarely sticks the landing, but the journey to it is usually pretty satisfying.
