Thanks you for your comments! I do my best to keep up with them for the first few days after a video comes out, but due to the volume of comments on all of my videos, and to the general hustle and bustle of life, I must give up the fight after a while. If you are leaving a question four or more days after a video comes out I can't guarantee I'll see it, but perhaps one of my other viewers knows the answer and can help out. Thanks in advance to those who contribute and share their knowledge. Cheers and stay safe everyone!

Regarding your remarks at 1:45 it is important to note as well, that many competitors trade that extra horse power for likely reduced reliability. If you look at engines like the 1290 adventure or the tiger 1200, they have compression ratios of over 13:1. To put that into perspective, that is higher compression than a yamaha R1M! Meanwhile the AT features a very modest 10:1 compression.
This is key to explain the performance difference. It is not that honda cannot make a high HP engine, it is that they chose not to. Higher compression equals more stress on engine components, and also makes the engine way more picky with fuel. Doesn't matter much if you plan to drive to starbucks and back, but if you actually go off the beaten track on a real adventure, fuel quality can be less than ideal.
I find the 19" on the ATAS a very good idea. They are mostly used on-road anyway, and any offroad is maybe fireroads. There already was a split between a more offroad capable 'standard' AT, and a more touring oriented ATAS. This just further clarifies what each bike is focused for.
The only DCT choice... I am not a fan off. Then again, the sales numbers don't lie, otherwise they wouldn't have made that choice.
The electronic suspension option for the standard is great. I wish I had the option when I bought my AT. Also the adjustable windshield is a good one.
For tubeless, I am not sure if it was the right choice. Maybe they should have left it a configuration option.
4:53 I ride my standard AT on single track relatively often ;) There's not much more offroad in NL, so I have to do with mountainbike trails.
Lastly for the seat height, I think they went the wrong direction, but that might be bias from a tall person. Instead I wish they created more cockpit space with a different configuration of handlebar/rake, as currently standing on the bike from factory is incredibly cramped unless you are very short. Hard to find a stable position.

Thanks for the thoughtful comment! Yes, the Japanese err on the side of reliability and the Europeans on the side of max performance. I rode the ATAS on single track and it was a pig. A few of us might be gluttons for punishment but most ATAS owners won't even consider it. That's what my 250cc dirt bike is for. Not worth getting one if you don't have a lot of places to ride, which is too bad because NL seems like the perfect place to put some nice trails.

The KTM LC8 v-twin mill is a tank and tried and true. I think people that really get around off the road know the KTMs are the king and ATs are soft. Nothing wrong with an AT, I just don't find anything exciting about them, except the looks. It's hands down the best looking "adv" bike in my opinion. In theory you're not wrong, but there are tons of high mileage KTMs out there.

I owned a 2017 Africa Twin and recently traded for a 2023 Norden 901. I must say each bike has it's qualifies and faults in terms of performance and handling. That said, I never had any issues with my former AT, but I can't say the same for the Norden. Moreover, I doubt very much the 901 can offer the same engine life to that of a low compression Honda. That said, I plan on purchasing the 2024 ATAS and I will ride it everywhere off and on. I may be a little slower off-road when compared to the mighty KTMs, but I'll get there and that's what's important to me. Anything more than 100hp off-road is overkill. Just my opinion. :)

I like all of the changes, except for DCT only on the AS, which I think should be optional. Honda has done a great job with DCT engineering, but eliminating the clutch and shifter removes some of the fun of riding a motorcycle. DCT only is a deal killer for me.

Other than DCT being the only option now on the AS model, I’m really excited about the changes they’ve made in driving home the touring aspect for this particular model. I’ve always been interested in the AT when looking at potential bikes to pick up as my dedicated long distance touring/moto camping rig, and I love the range, features set, and ability to drink regular grade fuel making it a very economical choice, but I’m not dirt rider and the only off pavement stuff I’d ever do is to the random remote camping location, so as someone that enjoys taking quick flows sweepers and getting a bit sporty while on tour versus riding a BDR route, I’m happy to see the 19” wheel. More road biased but still able to tackle a fire trail if I need to 😊

    Unpopular opinion:
I went to my dealer and put a deposit down on a 2024 ATAS specifically due to the new front wheel and new engine tuning/better low end torque. (Im in the US where we still don't have 2024 model year Africa twins yet)
I've been riding for 24 years (I'm 30). Of those 24 years, 20 of them have been off-road trail riding or in motocross. My most recent bike was a 2007 CBR600RR. On road, I've never ridden anything other than that CBR. Off road, I would switch between an XR650R and an XR250R.
I have wanted to own an Africa twin for 6 years at this point. The updates to the 2024 adventure sports was the catalyst pushing me to visit my dealer, put a deposit down, and become #1 on the wait-list locally.
On paper, it's the perfect bridge between the two worlds I ride in. I plan on doing a lot of 400+ mile trips on it due to location of family, and until I get to town, miles will be highway. Once I know where I am, I fully plan on visiting multiple trails and other spots not accessible by car.
I realize my opinion is frowned upon, especially about the 19" front wheel, however I cannot wait for my first ever new vehicle to arrive at my dealer; I genuinely believe it'll be the perfect fit for what I'll use it for. Sounds crazy based on my background, but this bike definitely won't be for even half it's life off-road. Most likely 80% on road, 20% off road, depends on how it feels specifically off-road.

Hey Honda Motorcycles Canada. When will the 2024 Africa Twin models be available in Canada??? Why the delay in releasing information in regards to product availability? Oh yes, the 2024 ATAS, even if it's more road biased, can still go off-road cause it still offers more ground clearance and suspension travel than the GS or GSA 1250.

Smart move, I highly doubt anyone riding an ATAS does any serious offroading. Having 2 separate models, like KTMs 890(Off-road) and 1290(Tourer) will make the selection a lot easier for customers. Honda could have made the Transalp the off-road option, unfortunately they just made another more powerful CB500X...missed opportunity in my opinion.

They should stop with all this seat lowering for short riders: it is now almost impossible to find a comfortable bike for tall riders (I am 6ft4 with a 3ft inseam). Especially when all the lower suspension travel makes it a worse bike. Unfortunately the same has happened to my favourite Honda model, the NC750X, which is now too cramped for me. The decision to go with lower seat height must be based on some statistics of the average buyer. But I get your point. There must be seat options and front wheel options that can get you where you need to be. Hope so,,,

I am disappointed with Honda’s strategy for the Africa Twin 2024. It’s unbelievable that Honda is trying to ENFORCING, yes enforcing its costumers to adopt or accepting the dct as the only option to its OFF ROAD, Haha, yes off road model. Come on, the only thing Honda could does with its dct system would be putting it as an option to the market and not making a mutant off road motorcycle that use to be the best off road motorcycle in the market, even though followed by close by the BMW 1250 (now 1300), Triumph Tiger and KTM 890. The risk of a hard back leash to Honda is huge and I think they would deserve it if they still trying to enforce the costumers to adopt its nonsense dct gear box. Another change I didn’t like is the smaller front wheel size. I think it will make the model loses performance.
Well, I had decided to buy a Africa Twin 2024, but after I see the changes they did I’m not sure if I go buying a Honda anymore, unfortunately. Let’s see how the motorcycle is gonna enter here in the USA market.
Mr. Honda (company’s owner) should open his eyes and make sure Honda has good directors and strategists unless he don’t care his company undergo the same back leash that Budweiser Light and Target faced up by the mistakes made by their CEOs. Good luck, we are waiting for the Africa Twin in a different way that it was presented to our European brothers 🇺🇸

Let’s be real about this, if you don’t like the new spec then don’t go buy it, at the end of the day for a bike this size and weight there’s not many people that are going to ride the green lanes especially fully loaded with luggage so the new wheel sizing makes perfect sense for what predominantly is a bike that’s really been made to look the part but only better used for touring. And not everyone is over six foot so really clever business strategy on behalf of Honda to try and capture a bit of the market for those who have an option of a lower seating position. I’m 6-1 and don’t get why tall people are complaining about a bike that has seating options for everyone.

I’m calling it now…No one is going to buy the AS version with 19in and DCT. It’s just way too niche and the type of guy to buy that is just going to get a BMW GS.
The AT was a success because of its simplicity and off-road performance. It carved out it’s own special place in the Adv landscape. Better highway characteristics than an T7 but better off-road than a GS…I foresee a lot of the AS models sitting on tje dealer floors for a long time before they sell at big discounts

      @lyubengeorgiev1751 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Yes but the people that could easily afford to buy new AT are in that age that they are getting smaller and shorter, so definitely a 20K EUR is not a price for a young person's wallet 😉
The 19'' front is a good decision in many ways because many of the original ATs (even since 1988) needed this smaller tire as they were and are used predominantly in street conditions. However the difference in between 21 and 19 is not a problem for a capable rider, suspension and skills are much more important. In reality every hard core enduro rider knows that the 21 inch in needed only when the things become tough with rocks bigger than 50 cm. logs, heavy roots, etc. Very few riders could ride in such a terrain. Unfortunately, the market and producers are all slaves to the trends and now majority of people thinks that the 21 front make a bike "adventure" and the people are just not considering the fact that 19 inch front makes it a lot more easy to tip the bike over in 80% of the case. Absolutely the same is happening with the MTB world where in the last few years 29 inch bikes become the standard over the 27,5 inch, following the trends and losing flexibility and agility downhill.

@@DifferentSpokesTV So, just to confirm, is the base model height changed or is that only for the AS? I'm in the market and want the base model but will probably get the 2023 if it has a lowered seat as i'm 6"4
