Wonderful video, so clear and concise. Have you ever considered putting one up for V neck sweaters? I have been translating hand knit patterns and drafting my own patterns for them, but would love to see how other people do it with their own style and knowledge!
A wonderful demonstration. Thank you. I am going to try this. I have a Brother KH 892 and a KR 850. My only concern is that I couldn't really see how you cast it off hand stitched around the neckline. You said like a kitchener stitch! I have to search for a demo.
I am working on the sleeves and the generated patters says "Knit NaN rows, increase one stitch each side every NaN rows to 97 stitches." What is NaN? It is used throught the sleeve instructions. Thank you.
Hi! I’m trying to knit the sweater using your pattern generator. In some places the math doesn’t add up. Maybe you want to have a look inside the calculations. ;) Thank you for the videos and the patterns!
Same here, I'm in the shoulder and neckline decreases and I'm having a hard time figuring what's what. Should I make less rows to reach the correct stitches or skip decreases to reach the correct rows? We'll see...
Same here. In the end I just decided a couple stitches, or rows, here or there, wouldn’t make a great deal of difference. I’m sewing it all together now and it’s looking good. 😊
Your videos are awesome! Are you still making them? I have an LK150 and would love to see more on this machine. Can it be used to make a sweater? Thanks again for your videos!❤
I think this sweater is so adorable. I looked on line and saw that the yarn you are using is discontinued. Do you have any recommendations as a substitute yarn? I have a Standard machine with a Ribber that is new to me. Thank you for all that you do!😃
This is a really good video, so clear. I have been looking for short sleeved sweaters, could I just shorten the sleeve length on the pattern measurements? Would that work out the stitch counts for the sleeve? Thank you again for a great pattern and tutorial.
Just a question...I made a sweater following your video and using the pattern generator, but the armhole depth on my sweater looks twice as long as it should when my daughter tried the sweater on. Did anyone else experience this problem using the pattern generator? I am new to machine knitting and totally appreciate the work you put into your videos. It is difficult to learn from a machine instruction manual. Keep up your work for us newbies!
Can you check two things for me? Is the gauge of your piece what you expected it to be? Can you measure the armhole depth that you got and compare it to what you expected?
@@KnitFactoryImpl I used 9" for the arm depth in pattern generator, but actual ended up being 12". The rest of the sweater seems to fit appropriately as far as chest and finished length
Hi there! I was thrilled to find your video and pattern online for the yellow red set in sleeve crew neck sweater. I have a few questions which might be elucidating some of the pattern steps. Thanks if you can find time to reply. 1) Is the sleeve necessary to do with the extra head and shelf? What if you wouldn't do but stick to only increases so a trapezium shape? 2) How do you decide whether to use decreases vs. short rows or both in the neck and shoulder? Does it depend on the inclination you need? Eg back body is only short rows for neck and shoulder but front is both decreasing and short rows. 3) In the same context: how do you decide on the number of sts to put in the hold position for short rows? Its hard to completely extrapolate the pattern as there are no calculations or formulas on the online pattern. Thanks a lot for the advice and enjoy the knitting, Sybryn
1) This is a pattern for a set in sleeve sweater which has the bind off for the shelf and shaping for the sleeve head. If you want to make a drop shoulder sweater, check out my other sweater tutorial: th-cam.com/video/cyqcqxR9TW0/w-d-xo.html 2) You can use either decreases or short rows. I chose to use decreases for the neckline because I like the way it looks. 3) All of the math for the pattern is in the code on the website. The short rows are calculated so that the shoulder is one inch lower than the neckline. The code is here: glitch.com/edit/#!/remix/giant-decorous-yamamomo?path=src%2Flib%2Fset_in_sleeve.jsx%3A1%3A0
The first thing I thought of when I saw this sweater color combination was Jayne Cobb Jayne's Hat from Firefly. On closer comparison that hat had a third color - cranberry?
I’m following your tutorial to make my first machine knit sweater. Is the front longer than the back? From the point of binding off at the underarm, I am seeing 70 rows for the front but only ~60 for the back. Is that correct or am I missing something? Thank you for your very informative and clear videos.
Working on a sweater for my partner [hoping the machine can bypass the dreaded 'curse,' and I'm finding that the math for this one is a bit off. [Probably my math] I have all my panels completed [the generator instructs to knit an additional 88 rows for the back following the full knit] and I'm finding the back panel is several inches longer than the front even following blocking. Using the following: Stitches per inch: 7.5 Rows per inch: 11 Chest circumference: 44 Shoulder width: 19 Finished length: 27 Bicep circumference: 15 Hand circumference: 10 Armhole depth: 6.5 [technically 11, but the generated pattern asked for another 143 rows which was...way too much the first run] Sleeve length: 25 Inches of ease: 2 I think I'm going to frog and just do 40 additional rows before beginning the back shoulder shaping, but wanted to reach out in case this is user error or a mathing issue on the back end] I have gobbled up all your videos and massively enjoyed the challah i-cord knitting one. I'll have to track down the old recipe since it's been a while, but that looked like such a fun challenge!
I enjoyed watching the video, very easy to follow. Please, what is the name of your knitting machine and did it come with it's own ribber or you got it separately?
Hi. Thank you so much for this tutorial. I watched all your clips and bought my machine a week ago. I am doing the set in sleeve pattern. I just need clarification on the sleeve. The decreases, to get to the short rows at the top , in my pattern it says decrease every 1 row both sides. When i get to row 23 I am at 38 stitches. But i still have 20 odd rows to go. Is it meant to be " decrease every alternate row" instead of every 1 row. I hope this makes sense. Thanks again. Lots of love from Wellington, New Zealand ❤.
Hi. I managed to figure it out. After bind off for shelve , decrease 1 st each side every row 5 times. Then every other row till 42 rows. It worked😊. ❤❤❤❤❤. Thanks again for tutorial. Lots of love from Wellington, New Zealand ❤❤❤.
Hi! I wanted to thank you for the video and the tutorial. I have a question and I’m sorry if it’s a little broken since English isn’t my first language: to form my front shaping my pattern has 63 stitches and wants me to bring 44 of them to hold, that leaves me with 19 stitches to work, then it tells me to work for 18 rows decreasing one stitch every 1 rows _to 5 stitches_, that leaves me with just one stitch and I don’t understand the “to 5 stitches” part. Then it tells me to begin short rows bringing needles into hold for nine rows, but at that point I don’t have enough stitches to put on hold to do that :( I’m sorry if I misunderstood any part of the process I would really appreciate your help.
You can do a lot without a ribber, so don't feel bad. You can reform stitches to make ribbing. Instructions will probably be in your manual, or you can do a folded hem - th-cam.com/video/EoM6j2EZpbk/w-d-xo.html
Great video thank you Just one question. I notice the slider on the left hand side of the top carriage moves from N to H sometimes could you tell me what this does ? I have a problem with my machine dropping the stitches on the top bed when going from left to right and I can work out why 😢
Seems as though you are a new machine knitter. The videos by KnitFactorylmpl are excellent and so are her patterns, but you can learn a great deal by joining the youTube Beginners and Returners Machine Knitting Group, the Machine Knitting Group and others. The slider on N is for knit and on H is for hold, which will be in your manual. It is a good idea to look through the manual to get an idea of what your machine will do and then sit down and do the exercises, one-by-one. What machine do you have?
Hello from the UK. When I reach the shelf and it wants to me to increase after binding off 8sts each side, can I just bind off 4 on each side to avoid having to increase again and go straight on to decreasing? (Yes my shoulder measurement is larger than chest circumference as I assumed you wanted full circumference rather than dividing by 2?). Love watching your videos though, they are so clear.
I have a question........does this machine easy to use??? does the machine has all the sweater sample for us to choose to knit, or we have to figure that out on our own??? I have not used any knitting machine yet so this is kinda new to me.......I thought it would have all the sweaters, mitten, and hat sample for us in a list that come with the machine so we can choose which type of sample of sweater that we want to knit.......something like that
Thank you so much for the video and your pattern generator! It’s fantastic! I have watched the video and others multiple times! 😊I have one question……I have checked online ….. (I do know how to do a stretchy bind off in hand knitting with ribbing) I am unsure how to do it with a ribber attached. Do you have any site you would recommend for me ?
So when the command in the print out from the pattern generator says “knit 12 rows, decrease one stitch on the right every 1 rows to 18 stitches”. I will knit 12 rows and then begin decreasing until I have 18 live stitches? Probably a silly question but want to make sure! This is my first machine knit pattern (& loving it so far!!)
Thank you! I have another question the pattern generator says “ knit -293 rows, increase one stitch each side every -45 rows to 57 stitches” then it goes on to say I should knit 433 rows…. That seems like too many rows for a 24” sleeve. Did I break your super cool pattern maker?
I tried your pattern generater, but failed with the sleeves. There seems to be a math problem with the shoulder. Is there a way to have a look at the vode from your glitch app?
I’m currently working on this pattern and following the pattern generator in your link. I’m a bit confused about a particular part on the body panels however… in the pattern (per my measurements) it states: “Cast on 108 for 1x1 ribbing Knit 18 rows and transfer all stitches to the main bed. Knit 126 rows Bind off 6 stitches on the side the carriage is on. Knit one row, bind off 6 stitches on the other side. You should have 96 stitches. RC000 Knit -6 rows, increase one stitch each side every row to 108 stitches. Continue knitting to RC45.” My shoulder width is 17” unlike the generic 14” on the generator. The increases here are really confusing me because I thought a set-in sleeve continues to gradually DEcreaae after the initial bind off. I’ve noticed that the 14” shoulder width states decrease but when I put in my 17” it says increase… Just want to know if I’m on the right track or if the pattern generator is taking me on a bit of a roller coaster journey. ❤️
If your shoulders are that much bigger than your torso, the drop shoulder pattern might be a better option for you: th-cam.com/video/cyqcqxR9TW0/w-d-xo.html
@@KnitFactoryImpl Thank you for your reply. I wouldn’t say my proportions are ‘that much bigger’ as I’ve hand-knit plenty of vests and sweaters for my measurements without having to swap to a drop sleeve lmao - I’ve brainstormed and combined a hand knit pattern with your pattern generator. So far things are going much better - thanks.
I'm working on this pattern and the numbers aren't adding up for me in two places on the sleeves. I've worked around it but thought I'd let you know! For the increases I have: With 100 stitches on the needles "Knit 62 rows, increase one stitch each side every 17 rows to 108 stitches." There are not enough rows there to increase to 108 stitches if the increase row is every 17. For the shelf bind off I have: "Bind off 7 stitches on the side the carriage is on. Knit one row, bind off 7 stitches on the other side. You should have 93 stitches." 108 stitches subtract 7 on each side should be 94. Here are the measurements I input for your reference: Stitches per inch body: 7.2 Rows per inch body: 10 Rows per inch ribbing: 10 Chest circumference: 43 Shoulder width: 14 Finished length: 25 Bicep circumference: 10 Hand circumference: 9 Armhole depth: 12.5 Sleeve length: 20 Inches of ease: 5
Find a pattern you like and split the front in half. I used the flax sweater from tin can knits. I garter stitched the first and last four stiches on the front as I'm knitting by hand to keep it from rolling. Theres also patterns for cardigans that may be what your looking for.
If making this pattern on my LK150, do I need to adjust something or just follow the pattern as is? I am attempting to make this sweater for my 10 year old son and he wears size small adult. Thank you! I am using yarn #4 (medium weight)
I tried this sweater twice and it did not work. I entered my measurements. My gauge is right. The video is great. I have learned many useful tips from the videos. The sweater calculator didn’t work for me. I need more instructions in the written portion. Edited to change my tone. I was having a bad day and didn’t want to take it out on KF in retrospect.
@@KnitFactoryImpl I’m sorry. I was having a bad day. Things are better now. I’m gonna edit my comment. I appreciate your videos and your content. Please keep making them.
is the sweater calculator pattern accurate? why it says increase stitches after binding off 6 stitches when infact in your video, you do decreased. 🥺 im confuseddddd! 😶😩
After the bind off for the shelf, the pattern asks you to decrease to the width of the shoulders. This means that the shoulder measurement that you input is wider than the chest measurement minus the shelf bind off. You can try double checking that your measurements are accurate, or you can try one of my other drop shoulder patterns that doesn't have a shelf bind off.
Hi. I've just generated a pattern for this and it says for the body panel to cast on 155sts, k.rib 22rs then k154rs. Cast off 7sts on 2rs and says that I should have 139sts but 155sts-14sts is 141sts!!!!!!

I tried your pattern generater, but failed with the sleeves. There seems to be a math problem with the shoulder. Is there a way to have a look at the vode from your glitch app?
I’m currently working on this pattern and following the pattern generator in your link. I’m a bit confused about a particular part on the body panels however… in the pattern (per my measurements) it states:
“Cast on 108 for 1x1 ribbing
Knit 18 rows and transfer all stitches to the main bed.
Knit 126 rows
Bind off 6 stitches on the side the carriage is on. Knit one row, bind off 6 stitches on the other side. You should have 96 stitches.
RC000
Knit -6 rows, increase one stitch each side every row to 108 stitches.
Continue knitting to RC45.”
My shoulder width is 17” unlike the generic 14” on the generator.

Thank you for your reply.
Grat Video, thanks!
What is your website again? I enjoy your videos, thank you
I'm working on this pattern and the numbers aren't adding up for me in two places on the sleeves.
Here are the measurements I input for your reference:
Stitches per inch body: 7.2
Rows per inch body: 10
Rows per inch ribbing: 10
Chest circumference: 43
Shoulder width: 14
Finished length: 25
Bicep circumference: 10
Hand circumference: 9
Armhole depth: 12.5
Sleeve length: 20
Inches of ease: 5
amazing, I'm trying to find or generate an open front over sized or relaxed fit sweater? do you know how I could generate a sweater like this type?
Find a pattern you like and split the front in half. I used the flax sweater from tin can knits. I garter stitched the first and last four stiches on the front as I'm knitting by hand to keep it from rolling. Theres also patterns for cardigans that may be what your looking for.
This yarn is discontinued is there another yarn to go good with this pattern? :(
Thank you for your tutorial. Can I ask, is the part where you switch from waste yarn to the main yarn missing? I’m a little confused by that part.
Is that the cast on for the ribbing or the neckline?
If making this pattern on my LK150, do I need to adjust something or just follow the pattern as is? I am attempting to make this sweater for my 10 year old son and he wears size small adult. Thank you! I am using yarn #4 (medium weight)
This pattern should work with any knitting machine, just make sure to make a gauge swatch and plug the values into the pattern generator.
You mentioned the bottom bed. If you have a brother kx350 would you still be able to do this pattern?
If you don't have a ribber, you can always make a folded hem. I have a tutorial here: th-cam.com/video/EoM6j2EZpbk/w-d-xo.html
Thx❤️❤️❤️
I tried this sweater twice and it did not work. I entered my measurements. My gauge is right. The video is great. I have learned many useful tips from the videos. The sweater calculator didn’t work for me. I need more instructions in the written portion.
Edited to change my tone. I was having a bad day and didn’t want to take it out on KF in retrospect.
What problems are you having?
Silly question - what does NaN mean in the pattern
Did you ever find out as I am wondering that.
Hi. I've just generated a pattern for this and it says for the body panel to cast on 155sts, k.rib 22rs then k154rs. Cast off 7sts on 2rs and says that I should have 139sts but 155sts-14sts is 141sts!!!!!!
That's probably a floating point rounding error. It's only 2 stitches off, you can just fudge it.
Do you good job 👍💜
4 skeins is about how many yards? I want to make my grandma something and she only wears wool/silk etc and those come in smaller quantities usually
This took me about 1300 yards for a ladies medium.
@@KnitFactoryImpl thank you! I’m attempting a color block sweater and this was helpful in deciding what scrap skeins I can use

Bonjour.
Votre vidéo est bien mais dommage que ce soit trop rapide . Pas assez de gros plan. Je ne peux pas regarder la vidéo et lire les sous-titres. Je suis française. Cordialement
You can slow the video. Use the settings icon. {top right of the screen.}
Your voice is very robotic, and explanation is so quick. I find you very hard to follow
I have a sweater that i would love for u to make for me. How can i send you the details?
