I got into DU (22 rank) and BHU (37 rank), (I had no background in philosophy, I was a maths graduate) My rank in JNU was 108 , but sadly there are only 31 seats available. It is the best guidance video in youtube, just trust every word he says and you will glide through the preparations.

See, if you go to study philosophy in another country, say China or Russia or Iran or Germany, you'll not find this division. In fact, you "may" find a division between Western philosophy and their respective tradition of philosophy (like Western and Chinese philosophy in China, Western and Islamic philosophy in Iran, and so on). Nations usually want to prioritise their view of the world while disseminating knowledge, which is not possible in natural sciences, but is to a considerable extent in humanities and social sciences. This, however, is not really a reasonable argument for the disproportionate prioritisation, but rather a tribalistic or nationalistic approach towards education. This is one reason I think why the division is problematic. Secondly, it is not to say that Indian or Chinese or Islamic philosophy carry no merit. Rather, what is now included in Western philosophy today encompasses more or less all the crucial rudimentary questions that these traditions tried to deal with, in addition to the regional traditions in the West (say some part of continental philosophy or Greek). Hence, to a large extent, the excessive prioritisation of indigenous philosophical tradition becomes unnecessary.

MPhil is different. MPhil can be done in any subject like MPhil History, MPhil English etc. Masters in Philosophy is MA in Philosophy. Yes, if someone says Masters in Philosophy candidate, it means MA Philosophy.
