    Brilliant topic! Especially for wannabe-prodigies, sax players and jazz-standard-jukebox players. I hate what they do, they make jazz unlistenable to every ear that's not used to "jazz freedom", to the mainstream ears. But also too many times I don't see the sense of throwing bunch of licks, phrases without paying attention to those two important ideas - context and resolution. Well done Mr. Thank you very much, those things need to be on yt.

    "All the right notes in all the wrong ways " that could have came from Miles Davis ! Best comment I have heard for a long time! Great video, I always had difficulty explaining inside/ outside playing, you nailed it.

    What a great teacher, it's hard to explain this stuff and make it understandable to people who are building up to this level still (me). Thanks for showing some new possibilities and concepts. It keeps me growing and avoiding that stale area we all hit from time to time. Even tho I play 4 string I like seeing this on a six string, it makes me think outside the box a little more and expand my limits. Which is the point of it all I suppose. Great video!

    tl;dr: How you get from A to B is less important than arriving at the right place at the right time. Repetition legitimizes. Make it groove. Repetition legitimizes. Stick the landing.

    This has really helped me understand this concept so huge thanks!! I'm preferring Genius Jamtracks having used iReal Pro for so long....it's not programmable re chords etc but has a much warmer sound....worth checking out as you can put different rhythms in for each part which has its uses..;-))

    Damian, great content. When I saw the title of this video come up on youtube I thought of your book the Improvisor's Path which I bought a few weeks ago and am totally digging. Also, the iRealpro is a killer app.

    cool man.
    easy understood. well explained. i love the idea of stacking. like stacking thirds like the 5of a is e; the 5 of e is b. so, can you keep stacking more for tension? like... the 5th of b is f# and the5th of f# is Db? so then refering back to the root chord being A, this Db.....
    well, thats where creativeness comes in right? cause at sone point, yes, everything works.
    how fun!!!!
    thank you for loving music

    just wondering if you are seeing those arpeggios and patterns or if your ear can hear those and how about the resolution are you trying to hit a certain note or just let your ear resolve those lines

    Which iReal Pro Style setting are you using? I can't seem to find the one that sounds as hip. I'm using Version 7.0.1. You said C-7 but I thought I heard your backing track go the F-7 too.

    • @DamianErskineBass
      @DamianErskineBass 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      even 16ths. It's my fav! ps - Yeah, I messed up when recording the video and didn't record the backing track so I had to export a loop and it kept going to an F-7 (good ears). I didn't think anybody would catch that. D'OH!
