  • Hi everyone! In this video I will be painting a plain wooden box from scratch using two secret ingredients: acrylic paint and washi tape! You can follow the same steps I use here to paint your own box 😊 (would this be classified as a semi arts and crafts tutorial? 🤔)
    This is my first big-ish project and an original design with actual planning sketches (I kinda winged my first few projects/videos 😆). I’m very pleased with the result and I will do bigger projects like this in the future with different designs. I already have a few ideas brewing in my idea factory.
    Items used in this project:
    *Jo Sonja acrylic paints (normal colours) - amzn.to/469BWR6
    (Any type of acrylic paint can be used as long as the wood is properly sealed)
    *Jo Sonja’s Clear Glaze Medium/light sealer - amzn.to/3uSuZ5P
    *Posca paint markers - amzn.to/3tohZaA
    Note that I have bought and tried all of these items myself. Since I am an amazon associate and I will also earn a small commission if you purchase from the links above. You are more than welcome to purchase elsewhere, especially if you find a cheaper price, or if you prefer to support smaller local companies. I always advocate for supporting what you believe in and always comparing and being careful when purchasing online :)
    *Washi tapes
    The washi tapes I used are primarily from the beautiful sets bought from the Washi Tape Shop (self funded hehe). The sets are the “Dreamer” and “Stargazer” sets. If you like the designs of these tapes and would like to purchase these for your own use, the link below will take you to their site. I will earn a small commission at no additional cost to you (you can also use discounts codes on your order). This will help a little in my next washi tape adventure!
    Washi Tape Shop link: www.thewashita...?aff=611
    The Washi Tape Shop also has discounts from time to time - I bought mine during the ‘back to school’ sale :)
    If you have any questions concerning the steps and what to use, please leave a comment and I will do my best to answer!
    Please visit my Patreon for behind-the-scenes extras such as detailed planning sketches, abandoned or changed ideas, thoughts I had during the making of each project and more!I will be updating this to cover all the projects that were made based on my own designs.

      Hi! Thank you so much, I’m so glad that you enjoyed it 🥰
      I will definitely create more! I have another big-ish one coming very soon (within the next week or two). I’ll also try and do something a bit different with each project - hope you’ll enjoy this one as well 😊

    I've been looking for a clear tutorial for doing this and so many don't even mention what types of paints they use. This was perfect, exactly what I needed to get started. Thanks so much and what a pleasure to watch

    That's a very adorable little box. Back then I enjoyed art and this motivates me to do that someday. Also, the music is very soothing. 🌃

    Did you wait at all between coats? If so, how long of a wait between the clear glaze medium coat and the acrylic paint coat? How long between the acrylic paint coat and the pre-varnish glaze coat? How long between the second coat of glaze and the final varnishing?
    Thanks, I’m making a jewelry box for my precious niece 😅

      I would say wait a minimum of 1 day for the first layer on the raw wood so it can properly seal. For each subsequent layer, around an hour would do - you can use a hairdryer to speed up the surface drying time. Each varnishing coat is also 1 hour wait. Have fun with the jewellery box!

    What are the names of each color of paint you used? Thanks

    • @azukibeanhobbies
      @azukibeanhobbies  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi :) The main colours are turquoise green and ultramarine blue. I mix these with varying degrees of red, black and white to get the navy blue, darker blue. Pink and light brown for the balloons and the boat, with gold accents.

    what kind of paint do you use, is it speciali for wood or something else ?

    • @azukibeanhobbies
      @azukibeanhobbies  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi! I used normal acrylic paint on top of a clear glaze medium layer. Unless you’re using a special paint for wood which doesn’t require sealing before painting (such as milk paint), you can use other paints as long as you seal the wood beforehand. If you don’t seal, the paint will seep into the wood and crack with time.

    what glue did you use for gliiters?

    • @azukibeanhobbies
      @azukibeanhobbies  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I used a bit of tacky glue (also known as craft glue) :)

    How did you keep the lid from sticking to the box while painting the whole side? I'm painting a box and struggling with this.

    • @azukibeanhobbies
      @azukibeanhobbies  ปีที่แล้ว

      I can’t remember exactly but I think I had to pry it off using a little bit of force. I think there’s a section in the video where I had to repaint the inner section that connects the box to the lid, but since the box is a dark blue colour, you can’t really see a marked difference in the paint.
      Another option that might work is to paint and immediately remove the lid and let it dry by hanging/balancing it on something like a bottle of water. The flat bottle top would be in contact with the dry inner part of the lid. And because the box is symmetrical and fairly evenly distributed, it won’t topple over. Just make sure that the bottle is heavy enough to support the lid!
      Hope that helps!

    what can I do if i dont have the clear thing you put over the wood first? :(

    • @azukibeanhobbies
      @azukibeanhobbies  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      You’ll definitely need to seal the wood before painting, otherwise the paint will seep through and crack over time. Try to find a sealer, the one in the video the Jo Sonja’s “Clear Glaze Medium”, which is a light sealer. A heavier sealer is the “All Purpose Sealer”. Another one you can try is one called GAC100. Alternatively, you can use specific types of paint such as milk paint, but this is more for decor purposese.g. painting furniture to get that distressed look.
