Man I just want to play CS2 on my M1 Macbook pro base model without paying for crossover using wine. What is the performance of CS2 on base m1 macbook pro? Can you please make a video on that topic and also a tutorial on how to do it properly if it works?
You’ll be able to mod multiple games, not just one. So divide the amount by the number of games you’re modding and see if you still think it’s too expensive per game.
thank you andrew and the community for bringing together these mods and crossover help. I love cyberpunk and it was basically unplayable before. working like a dream. much appreciated
Great video as always Andrew! I love seeing what's going on to improve Mac gaming or running Windows games on Mac. After the CrossOver free trial ran out I switched over to Whisky and I have to say, it's great and it's free. Sure it might not work well with some games, but on my M2 MacBook Pro the games I play run perfectly with high frame rates. It would be great to see you do some videos for people who want to use this option. Keep up the great work! :)
Lets not forget this isnt a performance fix for slow computers. It's best used like with DLSS3 at higher fps 60+. Frame gen tech adds input latency and the image also becomes more error prone at lower fps. IMO 60fps is the minimum required fps for any kind of frame gen tech. It's to reach high fps when you otherwise could not. Not to make your ow fps high. Also though its still nice to have this feature even if its usefulness is limited to higher end macs with high refresh displays.
Yeah FSR3 FG is nice but you need a solid fps base for it to look good. At least 40fps or so because if you’re at 19fps expecting it to do 40 magically, you’ll be disappointed by the result.
Exactly this. People seem to misunderstand that frame gen is not a performance enhancement technology but rather a smoothing enhancement technology. From my own experience of playing with the tech on my RTX 4070 desktop, a base frame rate of 40 is serviceable depending on the game, but 60 is a more ideal target.
I was very surprised when Andrew claimed the gameplay with FSR3 was very smooth at 11:26. It's not. Yes, it's smoother than without FG most of the time, but the lows look to be even worse than they already were, causing horrible stuttering that wasn't all there yet before FG. Besides that the frame gen artefacts look so bad at these framerates that they're very noticeable even through youtube compression at 1080p. Frame generation is an awesome feature, but it's mostly usable for a MacBook Pro with its 120 Hz display, because it'll benefit from 120 fps smoothness with 60 fps input lag and without too many artefacts, because the difference between the frames is so much smaller than at 20 fps.
@@SterkeYerke5555 Agree - I started taking his performance analysis with a grain of salt, he shows cool technology advancements, but most of the shown games stutter so much that gaming on mac is just not fun at all. More important than framerate is frame pacing, even stable 30 fps can look better than unstable 60 - and frame generation multiplies this feeling a lot.
@@krystiano.610 I could imagine frame gen being useful when you're at a locked 30 fps, which I guess makes it useful for the likes of the MacBook Air and the iMac. You'll probably need more power than the M1 though for modern games. The M3 might just about be sufficient
Would like to see more this tested on more mac models. Particularly the m1 max because that's what I have but I'm sure others what to see there configurations too
Oh, just in a middle of consideration whether to buy one ugreen’s docks. Can you tell how much watts delivered to laptop and does it sustain under heavy load on the dock?
Awesome video Andrew! One question, you mention enabling the unreal engine setting in the toml file but then kept it "false" when launching both cyberpunk and spider man. Should that be false or true for best results?
@@Andytizer got it, thanks for the reply! So a game like Hogwarts legacy should have it listed as "true"? I've been able to get the mod running on the games from your video but am having trouble with Hogwarts.
Too bad you don't show the whole truth. Even when games launch and have decent performance there are still glitches (for example, black boxes/textures in Cyberpunk 2077). You have to be critical, if something doesn't work as expected, it's appropriate to mention it. This is the natural way of development, but we - potentially interested parties - do not want to be negatively surprised later!
This happens whenever I have AMD FidelityFX Enabled. Is this because I'm running Crossover 23.7? Also when I run with just the DLSS the effect just makes everything look like it has double vision. Is this because I'm using a 2nd monitor?
Okay to get rid of the doubling effect you have turn DLSS Frame Generation on. Save your game. Quit. And open the game again. You'll have to do this if you change the resolution too, but the end result will give you full DLSS Frame Generation. Still no fix for AMD FidelityFX for me. Still get black boxes there
@@Andytizer Thanks for the advice but no luck. I feel like each Mac set up is different in Crossover. I have an M3 Pro and I can't get it running nearly as well as you have it going :(
unfortunately same here. I noticed when "color precision" is set to Medium then these black textures appears less frequently, you can try this. BTW did you tried mentioned FSR 3 mod? If it's FSR related bug then maybe it could help
@@entertain8648 yes. No issues whatsoever. I did have one problem with audio crackling in busy scenes but you can turn ESync on crossover and that’s solved it for me. GTA v also works pretty much perfectly
FSR 3 and every other frame generation solution isn't good when your base FPS is low. It's only good when you have about 60FPS and more, under that because the input latency is still that of the your original fps all you get is a weird experience where movement is fluid but it all feels sluggish.
What do you need an android emulator for? There's one pretty good bundled with android studio or you can use genymotion but if you want to play android games on Mac you're better off just using play cover and playing the iOS versions of those games.
Gaming scene on Mac is so fucked up tbh. In addition to buying an expensive Mac computer and paying for the game itself, you also need to pay for other stuff (most of it is subscription based also..) to even make the game run decently. Apple needs to seriously step up their game (pun intended) if they want to have a chance in the gaming scene. Until then, my home computer will be Windows.
Yea that’s mostly because Mac is meant for companies and it has been doing well for that market. Though they definitely should keep going in the gaming direction as that would help bring sales so easily. Mac OS is good, but the hardware can definitely improve.
@@CheeseburgerEnjoyer Agreed! Many people use Mac at work and would probably love to use Mac at home as well, but fails since it can't game properly. If Apple can fix that, I think their sales will increase even more. But they definitely need to fix game support as well as develop a much better GPU since the current one is not that good.

Cyberpunk 2077 now supports FSR3 frame generation natively and it works on the mac.
This is why I just built a PC. So much easier and faster. This is crazy.

Would the FSR Lossless Scaling app on Steam work as well? It can inject FSR into any game.
Do you have any example of how to make it work in palword?
Do you know if it's possible to get Doom Eternal working with this method?
is that m1 pro or m1?
So any news if you can run a meta quest 3 on the m2 Mac’s via crossover if these games are running so fast now why can we not connect a headset

The mod hooks into games that have been at least compatible with DLSS or FSR2.1, so it won't be possible with any current emulators.
