Great review Purchased the 2017 40e used with low miles and absolutely love it. As is the case with any vehicle, it is all about personal preference, we live in the city and generally have shorter trips so this is a perfect option. As others mentioned, the benefit of purchasing this vehicle used is the significant price savings and BMWs great CPO warranty.
Glad you're enjoying it, Tim! Smart way to purchase it. These cars are great for inner city driving (myself included), you save a ton on the premium gas (athough it's super cheap at the minute!).
I just bought the 2018 version of this vehicle, and I love it. This is the best, and most honest review I have seen. I would have preferred the diesel, but my wife wanted the hybrid. She has a 3-mile (one way) commute to work, so this vehicle is somewhat practical for her use. Love the vehicle, but it is definitely not a Prius!
I’m debating between this and diesel not because I can’t afford a Tesla quite yet so wondering I’ve heard some horror stories of the 4cyl engine failing on these. Have you had any problems on your 2018? Are you saving more money per month compared to the diesel on longer trips??
Not really. Check the channel "Engineering Explained". He has a pretty good technical info on why hybrid and diesel is not actually an optimal combination in passenger vehicles.
BMW & Porsche are the prime suspects of price gouging, consider they cost quite a bit for their base cars but every single other option (which competitors have as standard) is a ~$1000 more for each option boxes checked. BMWs all drive well, and I did fancy a 330e for some time as well. However the value & BMW cannot be said ever in the same sentence. Then we have the ownership cost; BMW are driven almost exclusively by nouveau-riche or pretend rich folks in Toronto who practically race every stoplight, dart into the smallest most dangerous gaps, and likely don't know what a "turn signal" is (are they optional too on BMW?) which makes insurance premiums the top bracket. That's before you factor in the ownership costs; yes the 4 year maintenance coverage is nice but what about when parts start breaking? No wonder BMW gives great lease rate only up to 48 months; most owners would immediately turn their vehicles in & sign another lease to avoid the insane costs of owning one.
The packages on these cars are frustratingly expensive... often including things I'd expect to be standard on a high end vehicle. It's an unfortunate feature for the brand.
I never understood hybrid SUVs. If you care about fuel economy don't buy a 4500 lb car. If you want to save money, the extra cost of hybrid system takes over a decade to break even. If you want to save the environment, you are supporting third-world strip mining to get lithium. So it's really for shallow poseurs.
So lets compare this future not proof car with the chrystler pacifica hybrid, for $20k more with the BMW you get: 10km less range, way less cargo space, 10MPG on hwy, 2 seats removed.....whoever get this hybrid is simply absorbed into how others will see them into their BMW obsolete SUV, sad....
are you serious comparing a german vehicle it to a chrysler , he clearly stated it is a great urban vehicle which makes sense, I drive 95% in the city and cant go over 30 MPH thus this would be perfect for me.
Great review

How has it held up?
@@Abdul-nt9uk stills runs like a charm. Haven't had a single issue
@@timzimmerman7316 thank you Tim! How many miles you got on it now? Thinking of getting one for my wife but miles are at 90k.

Sounds like your wife's application is darn near perfect for this car, Jim. Thanks for the feedback!

Great comprehensive review…
Amazing review, thank you!
A plugin hybrid diesel would be the best of both worlds - in fact also a towing monster.

It is not 'yet' an optimal option - Not to say it won't ever be.
Dongi only thing better than that combo is a Tesla but they’re still expensive

The best and only way to buy a bmw is 3yrs after it’s been sold
Exactly
I just bought my 2018 x5 xdrive40e so I made it right ?
Lol just did that
Can BMX might increase the battery storage capacity?
The same amount but with higher Whr. capacity?
More milage capacity in electric mode
Hello. I have an BMW X5 hybrid and I have a problem. The battery runs out very quick. Does anyone knows what may be the problem? Thank you 🙏🏼
How can you increase the storage capacity of the batteries 🔋 for the 40E?
In other words to increase the electric mileage capacity?
I would go with Diesel all the way
I have 2015 40e...after 4 X5 diesels....40e best of the lot....Brilliant power, no turbo lag like diesel.... and over 50 mpg....
someone explain why this car is so heavy? it's not even a 7 seater
the battery and the motor i guess

the interior of the bmw x5 e drive in my country is pretty bad for the price, the door handles are silver plastic and the trim feels awful.
Where are you based, Jackey? It was really very nice here in Canada.
I'll buy this exact vehicle in 2022 for $25k
Worth keeping an eye on? With technology improving every day you never know!
have you yet? :P
How bout now?!
@@marcushudak I have a Tesla Model Y performance... Im no longer interested in this vehicle.
the hyundai santa-fe is better!
recon forsales You again 😂 Hyundai bum boy.
Comparing santa fe with X5....😁
stop dreaming, go drive a hyundai after 100K miles and a bmw after 100K miles or less and you will realize what compliance and quality means.
0 reason to buy this over 35d

Actually, I was looking for a car that would last longer than an American made vehicle...

Boring, didn't show anything pertinent about the vehicle.
