Hi! Thank you for this tutorial. At 9:30 how would you define vectors (1,1,0),(-1,1,0),(-1,-1,0) and (1,-1,0) or simpler the 45degrees vectors pointing outside the rectangle at the rectangle corners instead of the average vectors?

I'm having an issue at the "deconstruct brep" I only get one untrimmed surface as output instead of four. This messes up the triangulation.

Another issue, when I enter the expression, I get a synthax error: Unknown variable encountered: x

Thanks for the suggestion! It's always helpful to receive feedback from you guys! That sounds like a pretty cool topic to cover, and we will definitely add it to our list of upcoming tutorials.

If we want to build this in real life, how can we get measurements of each pieces' for production? Does Grasshoper help us in this situation? I never found the answer for that or my English wasn't good enough to search better. Designing this on Grasshoper becomes the easier part when we think of building it. I'd really like to know about this. This is a great channel

you can do it in real but u have to create a model unit to optimise triangulation panels by you set of distances you want your points to move to

Ok, so i have questioned this with a couple of colleagues about an example very similar to this one. I remember we were doing a very very similar thing for a proposal for a tech expo stand, and the surfacing of the main visual area of a certain company would be done like this with the perforations backed with semi translucent acrylic panels and backlit with LEDs controlled by a software to make the whole expo stand look like its breathing and reacting to newcoming guests/traffic.
So we of course questioned ourselves as to how would we DFM it (Design for manufactoring) later in the process if the proposal was accepted (Thankfully it didn't and we went with a much simpler, although, much more boring and visually stimulative solution..)
In regards to actual industrial design and engineering for manufactoring, all types of mesh surfacing is not really advised even if its quadrilateral Subdivisions. So Some type of Unroll,Smash or Develop command would be necessary to flatten the whole tesselated surface to a flat plane and extract border outlines from it, including bore holes positions.
Since the basic principle of this idea is to take a flat multi component surface and translate it into dwg or dxf to be cut on a 2-3 axis machine, like a laser, plasma or waterjet cutter, then assembling it to a specific coordinate system with a structural backing frame (mostly from knauf profiles), we opted for aftermarket nesting and marking tools or plugins for rhino that would help us identify each panel and position it on a standard sheet of material.
Later we would use the basic Grasshopper 3d model to remodel a new one with Nurbs extrusions from all those dxf and dwg files in the same coordinate position ( including real world material thicknesses and offsets for acrylic backing and LEDs, cable channels and LED controllers, and finally a ''structure'' of Knauf profiles to hold all of those components in place.
      Hope it helps.
