That's funny cause I did take my 5 year old she kinda liked it she was lost tho and definitely didn't get all the big words kept asking what's that, what's that, poor kid I was also expecting a more light hearted, fun, silly adventure but it's okay we just watched the animated ones they'll never be beat

@@nmoney6655 Pregnant Midge was controversial because parents believed she encouraged teen pregnancy. She was also condemned for not having a wedding ring and being pregnant. So parents thought that was inappropriate. Later Mattel rereleased Midge having the baby already and with a picture of her husband included in the box.
@@adorableanahi Yep. Midge & Alan got married in 1990. They didn't have their second child until 2002. Their first child Ryan was about 2-3 years old at the time. Some people were upset b/c she wasn't wearing a wedding band in the first issued box.
When Sasha gets in the car after school (18:16), her mom refers to her as Bunny Boo Boo. Sasha's nickname in Bratz is Bunny Boo, which is also the name of her pet rabbit.
That's one thing that I'm iffy about not them including the ethnicity but them changing both Sasha and Yasmine ethnicity like Sasha is originally black and Yasmin is Latina why change it?
@@Liya_007 if they actually WERE the characters from Bratz, I'd agree with you, but they're not. If they were, Mattel would have to pay Bratz for the rights to have their characters in the movie. I find it interesting to see guys react to this movie. It feels to me that they miss a lot of stuff in the movie because it doesn't play to their experience and so they don't enjoy it. It's also very absurdist humor which isn't a lot of people's cup of tea.
I agree. Some of the reactors (men) lose interest as soon as it’s just a scene with Barbie and don’t really listen. I get they cannot associate with it (maybe or just parts of it) but it’s for me kind of ignorant. But again not everyone, just some.

You should check out YaBoyRoshi's reaction to this movie, one of the reactors named Lupa is well knowledgeable in the world of Barbie because he has sisters
In my opinion, Barbie is the role Margot Robbie was born to play. Yes, her as Harley Quinn is iconic, but Barbie has surpassed that for me. She's the glue that holds the film together, even during moments when it doesn't completely fire on all cylinders, delivering a wonderful performance that allows her journey to become something more to play out in a believable manner.
Agreed! People tend to focus more on the comedic aspect of the movie that is Ryan as Ken and that kind of overshadowed their perception of the movie, but if it is not for Margot’s pitch-perfect nuanced performance as Barbie, the movie wouldn’t have worked.
It technically not a kids movie but kids can watch it with parents permission and its not just for adults either. It's PG -13, as in for teens and up. Allan was 'Ken's buddy' and he fit all Ken's clothes. He was later rebranded 'Alan' as part of 'Happy Family Midge and Alan' . Almost all of the dolls were real dolls--Depression Barbie, Weird Barbie, and Stereotypical Barbie--being the outliers. That pooping dog? Real. The dad is the real-life husband of the actress playing the mom, FYI, and the kid, Sasha, and her friends are styled after the Bratz dolls. ETA: This movie is really a love letter to adult women. My twenty-three year old son thought it was great but he went into it knowing it wasn't a kids movie.
Weird Barbie is a real Barbie, just not officially, weird Barbie is simple a Barbie that has BEEN THROUGH IT. An example, if you cut their hair, draw on them, take off their limbs, etc etc. then you have… a weird Barbie.
This was never intended to be a kid’s movie. This was for the adults who used to play with Barbie. The plot of the movie was Barbie got bored/tired of the doll life and went searching for more. Real life wasn’t forced on her, it’s what she wanted. In the end, she chose to become human. Hence, the gyno line at the end.

PG-13 means parental guidance is suggested for anyone younger than 13. As parents may find some aspects of the film inappropriate for those under 13. The reasons it may be deemed inappropriate by the parents is subjective.
Yeah this movie was definitely for adults. Specifically adult women. I honestly would have given it a 14A rather than Pg-13. But I'm glad it made you laugh as much as it did Billy!
36:32 Billy, my friend, that's how women feel all the time. We are expected to be superhumanly beautiful, generous, hard working and strong while also making the men in our lives feel as though they're the ones who embody all of that. I say this with all the respect in my heart but the point is that women are Barbie and Barbie is the embodiment of the expectation for our perfection. Not conforming to a Barbie standard is seen as a failure by men in society even when the failure to conform is something the woman can't control.
“Beach” is basically what the blonde Ken does for a living. So the “beach” competition was just them standing at the beach doing practically nothing. Hope that helps Billy
Yeah, I got the feeling that this was a nod to him being "Malibu" Ken, but I'm not sure about that. Just as with Barbie, the original doll made his debut wearing only a swimsuit. From Mattel's lore, he is named after founders Ruth and Elliot Handler's son, Ken, and met Barbie on the set of their first television commercial together, where it was "love at first sight." Clad in just red swim trunks with a yellow towel, he was listed as her boyfriend, according to promotional box inscriptions from his debut until 2018. He was always branded as Barbie's boyfriend, and though Barbie and Ken aren’t officially engaged or married, wedding clothing and gift boxes have been released since the 60s so that children could play that they were marrying because it has always been expected (until recently) that little girls are supposed to dream of getting married. Mattel released a statement in 2004 that Barbie and Ken had broken up, but they were reunited in 2011.
about the razor burn/irritation: make sure you’re exfoliating before shaving, don’t shave until you’ve let the hair follicles open up by using hot water (either in the shower or soak a dish towel and let it sit on your skin for a minute), change your razor every 2-4 weeks depending on how often you use it (it gets dull which irritates the skin), make sure you’re using shaving cream and if you already are then make sure it’s actually working for you and not adding extra irritation, and use a fragrance free moisturizer after you’re done. hope that helps :)
Just adding to this, you can get some great chemical exfoliators (as opposed to scrubs) that should really help! From Target, you can get the Pixi glow tonic, or if your Target has an Ulta, The Ordinary brand has a glycolic acid toner or a lactic acid exfoliating serum you can use at night, maybe once every couple of days or so. You can also use a scrub but depending on how sensitive your skin is, it may increase your irritation, especially if you already have razor bumps.
Sea Breeze astringent helps as well after fresh shaves. Brace yourself…my hubs says it stings some. But he never has a skin issue around his shaving points.
so fun fact, bratz was big and mattel was pressed over them bc of the inclusion and diversity that they showcased! I had a professor in college who wrote multiple papers about the whole situation LOL. I personally played with both growing up, but had a huge preference for bratz!
When my parents offered to give my sister’s Brat dolls to me I didn’t want them because I wasn’t interested in them I was a little bit of a tomboy so I played with cars
Bratz and Barbie nerd here! It wasn’t about the diversity that had Mattel all up in arms at all - it was the fact that they felt that they were the rightful owners over Bratz (only because they were bitter that Bratz was - literally - more popular than Barbie at one point. Which *never* happened before) because the creator initially pitched the idea to them in the 90s and Mattel rejected it. He then went to work for MGA and the rest is history. In fact, Mattel actually tried competing with Bratz by creating MyScene that came out a year after Bratz did in 2002.
@@LaBellesGrace I learned a both this too!! Apparently since the creator of Bratz came up with the idea while working with Mattel Mattel did have rights to it or smth
"Note to the filmmakers: Margot Robbie is the wrong person to cast if you want to make this point" I love how they just brought the narration back solely for that. Best line of 2023. Also, Ryan Gosling was actually perfect. "I'm just Ken" is the greatest song of the year.
I respectively disagree. I really don’t like that line because it implies that she can’t feel that way because of how she looks. One of the points of the movie is that all women are victims of the system
Every single doll from Barbieland was an actual dolls sold by Mattel at some point. This includes Allan, Midge, Sugar Daddy Ken, Magic Earring Ken, Growing Up Skipper, the dog, and others. And all the modes of transportation and housing were also sold at some point. My mom and aunt had an Allan until their mom’s house flooded and Allan rotted.
This movie is basically a tribute to Ruth, the creator of the barbie. And she named it after her own daughter, Barbara aka barbie. The ending is just that, a tribute to Ruth, which is why they said thank you, because in real life, Ruth passed away. As a kid, we play with barbies and Ken's and had our own little things that we would do, having them put on concerts or whatever you felt. So it intertwined everything from how we were young, to growing up and getting older.
The Fresh Dolls should be better for black women and should have more of them and the men than the Bratz. Its founder can do better. Shoot, even the Fresh Dolls Disney doll toylines are weak. The Proud Family & Black Panther: Wakanda Forever dolls are STILL sitting on the shelves despite the mediocre sales.

26:18 "Has anyone actually seen this movie?" The joke about the BBC Pride and Prejudice got the biggest laugh of the movie during the showing I went to. I've watched it so many times while feeling down.
MILLIONS, millions of people saw and loved this movie, it is a bona fide classic and a HIT, and to this day is still considered to be probably THE best filmed adaptation of Austen's "Pride and Prejudice." It was Colin Firth's breakout hit movie role, I believe, and was even lovingly referenced in "Bridget Jones' Diary" complete with a scene from the miniseries (it is a miniseries, not a movie) being included. It's kind of a parody because "Bridget Jones' Diary" borrows a lot from that story and Colin Firth plays the romantic lead, AND his character's last name is once again Darcy. Trust me, MOST women of a certain age have seen and loved that movie, and it's a great one to watch when we need our faith in love and romance to be restored.
It's NOT a kid movie. It's squarely aimed at grown women, especially those who played with Barbies and/or collect them. It's about growing up and being human (becoming human, in Barbie's case). The Barbie doll has been around since 1959 and has countless looks and careers. It means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. For me, as a mom and a woman grieving the loss of my mom this year, it hit hard. It made me laugh & cry. I LOVED the set design and the music. Lots to love in this movie, which partly explains its success. Anyway, glad you stretched yourself and watched it. :)

People who say this movie is about hating men or anti-motherhood either didn't get it or have not seen it. It's a commentary about how women are viewed as less than in the real world. But the message is not that women are superior to men, it's that we're equal and each have a purpose. Barbie doesn't just exist to look good and Ken doesn't just exist to be by Barbie's side. They are both worthy of happiness and love as individuals. And America Ferrera's character specifically says that it's okay to "just" be a mum. You don't have to have a career or choose between a career and being a mum. Plus the pregnant Barbie was a real Barbie that was discontinued because people thought the idea of it was funny seeing as she didn't have a vagina. Speaking of, the ending with her going to the gynecologist, now that she has a vagina, is actually genius. Margot Robbie is fabulous as always but Ryan Gosling just took it to another level!
I love what you said about this doing a good job showing the negatives of both extremes. I view that as the point of this movie. Neither the matriarchy or the patriarchy was positive and someone always ended up getting hurt or forgotten. When we all do what we love and support each other that is when we are happiest and we can all shine (ex. It is barbie's movie, but ken also shines with his awesome song and dance number, so does allan, weird barbie, and everyone else, just like the speech by president barbie at the end). (Also, i believe the movie is pg-13 so not necessarily for kids, like the animated barbie movie)

Will Ferrell for the little time he had, was funny as hell.
Ruth Handler was the CEO of Barbie, she made them for her daughter whose name is Barbara Handler, hence Barbie's name; Barbie has been around since the '50s so in actuality Barbie's like in her 60s
I loved this movie, kinda especially today because some men are disgusting :). The bit where Ken says 'I walked down the street and people noticed me' and Billy said 'they didn't notice you or Barbie'. Today, I was in leggings and a jumper and I had multiple men try and stare between my legs, even though I was completely covered (men shouldn't think they have the right to look anyway). In the movie, Ken and Barbie are wearing the same thing when they first enter the real world, and the people are COMPLIMENTNG Ken, but they're cat-calling Barbie. The scene, just watching it now, made me more uncomfortable than the first time. I like how OBVIOUS the movie shows the bias/sexism, especially in that scene
Yeah, I also found it funny how Billy was shocked some dude just came up and slapped Barbie on the butt. It made me remember when some grown man, a complete stranger on the street, did that to me when I was 12 years old-- and he actually grabbed my butt. I hope Billy, the father of a daughter, is prepared for all the ways men will sexualize his daughter from the moment she starts to develop any "womanly" features.
@@vbrown6445 I agree! Absolutely no disrespect to Billy though. Many men don’t really notice these things happening because they don’t live through it themselves. Many men tend to gloss over the movies message about how women are treated in society and their experiences. Not because they are mean or don’t care but because it’s hard for them to relate to it. So they tend to focus on the humor of the movie instead
"No way that man just walked up and slapped her butt." Actually, yeah. That has happened to me before. It's a thing. And and I reacted the exact same way Barbie did.

I'm not sure this has been said yet, and haven't finished the video at this point. But I just wanted to say that this is not a kids movie, it's rated PG-13. When you see the trailers and read the title Barbie you would think "movie for kids", but it's not. Barbie was created to help show that women can be and do anything. And today, women are not really looked at with respect. Yes we are able to vote and rights were given to us, and we can do any job we want. But we are still looked at like objects to a lot of men. That is what I think this movie is trying to do. The ending of this movie when Barbie is with the creator and she closes her eyes and opens them, along with the women speech at weird Barbie's house made me cry. I felt seen when watching this movie. This movie is brilliant and I love it. Just wanted to get that all off my chest.
A lot of this movie made me tear up. It put my own thoughts and feelings about the different little pieces of being a woman into frame. Barbie thinking the beauty pageant poster was the supreme court and everyone laughed in the theater because in our world beautiful women in bathing suits aren't seen as people who can make decisions for a country. Barbie saying the woman at the bus stop is beautiful and the woman knowing it. It felt so good to see that in a world that covets youthful looking women, a woman who is no longer young still knows she's beautiful. A few other scenes really had me feeling feels but yea this movie was good.

Small details I just noticed after watching the movie again through your reaction, the teens (Sasha and her friends) were mean and antagonistic against barbie since they kind of resembled the bratz dolls and the reason why Margot Barbie doesn't like Ken or want anything to do with him (as opposed to some other Barbies who had romantic relationships with their own Kens) is because her person, doesn't personally like Ken, so Margot Barbie is just a reflection of that
I love that billy talked about bratz, realized the daughters name was the same as one of the bratz but didn’t make the connection that she and her friends were ment to resemble/represent a bratz dolls
im a girl but kens side of the story was my favorite part i found it awesome that they twisted it from "a woman only existing to make a man happy" to ken only existing to be with barbie the way i would describe this movie is its like an onion, it has layers. this movie is powerful and important and i will recommend it to anyone
Barbie IS Far From Idiot. Probably the movie of the year. So much deep than expected. And Margot Robbie was born to play Barbie. And Its obviously Not a movie for kids.
You are absolutely right. A lot of people said Ryan was too old for the role and even though I see their point, I just can’t imagine anyone bringing the same kind of energy and entertainment he did. Just like Margot this role was made for Ryan
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but during the production of this movie, there was a global shortage of pink paint, because of all the pink used in the sets. That said, pink is actually one of my favorite colors. As for the razor burn, cool compresses, don't scrub it, or anything. Astringents, like maybe adding apple cider vinegar, or tea tree oil, or witch hazel can help. Also, oil, like coconut, olive, or avocado oil, can soften the skin, to help it a bit. As for avoiding it, you should definitely try to get a skin routine. Shave after showering, or washing the area, so the hair's soft from the water. Always use something to soften the skin, like an oil. Add exfoliation, so that there's no skin to force the hair to remain underneath. Use rubbing alcohol on your razors to sanitize them between uses, too. Rinse with cold water and moisturize after shaving.
Honestly, when my own parents were complaining about my siblings seeing Barbie and the amount of children in the theater. I looked at them like they were the crazy ones because the movie IS NOT INTENDED FOR KIDS at least not without proper pre-knowledge and/or parental supervision. I wanted to say “WELL ITS PG-13 WHAT DID YOU EXPECT!?” Because it is. They weren’t supposed to be in there anyway. They knew it was probably gonna have mature themes occasionally. So to the people complaining about it, that’s on you, and that’s on Period 🤷🏽
Just saw this movie recently and I've been going through reaction. It's so perfectly in tune with the movie and ironic how so many guys do not get this movie at all, don't listen, and talk over anddont listen to the themes and project their own wrong themes into it. That's a man for you.
Yesss, thank you for covering this movie! I love the shoutout to Mellow/Mellverse on here! Love you both so much, hope you two collab some more in the future!
I watched Barbie in the theater and was sitting next to a woman with a teen-ish girl. My sister and I laughed through much of the movie, as did the woman with the girl. The girl would ask the woman "why's it funny" and she would say "it's just funny". If that's not a good gauge of who the movie is for, idk what is.
I played with Barbies and Bratz equally. They were a big family. *cries in 30* 😭😭😭 This movie struck a nestolgia, and greif chord for me. I was ugly crying in the theater. Billy is funny though.😂 The name of the Bratz dolls were the names of the main little girl character, and her friends at the lunch table scene. Sasha, Chloe, Yasmine, and Jade.
I think a lot of people were expecting the movie to just be typical feminism, but it's actually a humanist movie about a doll XD which I thought was brilliant! Like you caught in the bus scene, she saw the beauty of humanity and the real world and the emotions that come with it. And she felt real connection with other real people too, so it's likely she'd never have been happy as a doll, knowing there was more out there. Change is scary, and life is scary, but the montage at the end shows that the joy and love you get to feel in life makes it worth it. That's why she chooses to become human rather than stay. "I want to make ideas, not just be one" It's definitely a movie for my age group, since younger kids don't play much with barbies anymore. At least not the way they used to! I feel the demographic was millennials, those of us growing up in the 80s-90s and early 00s. (Though some outside of that probably did enjoy it too) Enjoyed seeing your take on it though! Allen def deserved more respect, best dude in the movie.
It is 100% a feminist movie though... Like, criticizing the patriarchy and it's negative effects on EVERYONE is one of the focal points of the movie, just as it is the focal point of feminism 🤔
@@amcp2078 It isn't just a feminist film is my point. There are a lot of themes around feminism in the film, obviously! But all of them focus on women not feeling like they are enough just the way they are, and that connects with Ken's struggle too. Feminism and humanism are intrinsically connected, so it's neat that they tied the two themes together into one movie. Basically - I agree that it's a feminist film, but appreciate that there's more to it. It isn't just "feminism 101" like some people complain.
Yeah, I had a pregnant Midge doll! The belly was removable; held on with magnets. And a tiny plastic baby was inside that you could take out. The baby was scaled to fit in the crook of Midge's arm and she could be played as either pregnant or a new-mom (ironic, considering the open scene of the film, now that I think of it). Both Midge and Allen were introduced in the 1960's to be the "youthful & sporty teen" look to contrast Barbie & Ken's "mature fashion teen" look. The pregnant Midge was a 2000's release of her. Midge & Allen are supposed to be paired together. But Allen is rarely re-issued. And Midge hasn't really been re-issued until very recently, since her pregnant version caused such a pearl-clutching uproar lol. Anyway, the costume, set, and props department were on fire for this film. You can tell they were thoroughly enjoying immersing themselves in the Barbie lore & bringing it to life lol.

Those are the exact rollerblades from Rollerblade Barbie & Ken! 😂😂😂 That's a major part of why I love this movie....they depicted so many actual items and clothing that Barbie had.
I mean ken was literally created to be an accessory to barbie...he wasn't really marketed as a proper doll himself so despite how everyone in barbie land is praised for what ever their job is this is a line drawn to not include ken despite how the barbies said he was great at beach just because he's a ken which I kindof get why he'd be upset...the kens are seen as superfulous even though they have just as much ability to be anything as the barbie's do..but just where never taught they could. heck even in real life there ARE kens with better jobs like doctor ken or veternarian ken but little girls arent going to play with them since they are kens and mattel only treated barbie like a proper doll. you know he lowkey thought beach was stupid and not a real job but the barbies told him he was great at it...but then don't really celebrate/include the kens the way they do other barbies...i mean mattle was probably relying on how everything else in the regular world would show how guys can do a bunch of stuff too....but it does touch on how littel girls and little boys get kindof separated or pick up they arent suppoused to play certian things together. honestly I lowkey picture it as kids playing barbies together but the one kid who brought the ken doll doesnt get allowed to play in the dream house no matter how they try to awkwardly ask or hint they want to be included more since the other kid has no interest in any romance subplot despite agreeing ken is the boyfriend..which puts ken in a 'other' box than normal friends which just increased ken being excluded..and then the kid who owns the dreeam house leaves the room and returns to the kid they had been uncontiously excluding... havimg taken over the dream house out of hurt and refuses to give it back until the 'plot' the kids made lead them taking the barbie house back and talking about it where the kid who got excluded admits they didnt actually like excluding them back and had just also wanted to play in the house TOGETHER.
I am a huge Barbie fan and I still collect Barbie dolls. I loved how this movie looked. They could have stayed in Barbieland and I would have been happy. I like the movie but I'm still critical of many plot points. (In my movie version Ken isnt so lame bc as a kid ...I played Ken. My Kens were just as awesome as my Barbies.) Anyway, I really enjoyed watching you watch this movie.
This movie was lightning in a bottle. I kept an open mind because I know people were saying some negative things about it and after watching I realized they were just incredibly biased lol this movie is fire

It’s where your hair’s are so coarse and curly that instead of growing out, they grow *in* and it causes irritation, inflammation, bumps, etc. One of the best solutions is to grow out your beard or use an electric razor (leaving the cut not quite as short which helps ease the irritation). Any kind of AHA or BHA skincare is also known to help tremendously! Love your videos and the laughs you bring 🩷 from Michigan
So yeah this movie is mostly for adults who grew up with Barbie aka millennials and older. But also an introduction of Barbie to the newer generation. While there is some light or funny moments, this is a movie with a message. Take whatever resonates with you and of course people will have different interpretations of the message. Alan is REAL.. he’s Ken’s best friend, but his doll I guess didn’t sell as much so it got discontinued. Which is a similar story to Midge aka pregnant Barbie, many parents at that time didn’t like the idea of a pregnant Barbie. Which is funny because even before Barbie, didn’t kids pretend to play house and use baby dolls as their actually babies? So…but I guess the image of Barbie was different at that time. Even though Barbie ended up having a “family”… be it with Ken or not. Also the different ethnicities of Ken only happened recently or at least the updated versions of them. 😆 Margo’s Barbie got tired of the Barbieland and like she said in the end..she wants to be a person who comes up with the ideas/imagination..NOT BE THE IDEA. She knows the difficulties of the real world, but still decides to go to the real world. She became HUMAN..she’s not a doll anymore.
18:06 the lady is just like “okay, great thanks… now I’m going straight to the principal and the police to let them know that there are weird adults at the school.”
Fun and disturbing fact is that the Ken and barbie dolls were originally intended to be siblings. Side note the pregnant barbie was in fact real, I owned one. She had a pregnant belly with a baby inside it that slid off and on the doll if I remember correctly.
Yes, Billy, there was a pregnant Barbie doll. She was called Midge and I had one lmao I also had the glammed up non pregnant version of her. The belly was detachable, fixed onto her belly by little magnets and you could put little fold up plastic babies in it 😂😂😂
This is the Barbie commentary I needed. Billy has me laughing so hard I'm choking. Beach Time Ken is literally what the doll was called. There were other Beach Kens. It was not a job back in the day. They made beach his job in the movie.
I absolutely loved this movie. The cast was everything! Yeah pregnant Barbie was actually real! I remember my mom getting mad about it. But yeah jusitce for Allen lol
Ryan Gossling actually used to sing on Mickey Mouse club with Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, and Christina Aguilera. He actually does have a nice voice. I'm glad they kinda used it
Hey Billy! Here’s how I now avoid getting razor bumps: 1) exfoliate the day before shaving 2) try using a straight blade or safety razor as multiple blades will cut hair below skin surface, making them more likely to get trapped when they grow back out 3) use a benzoyl peroxide cleanser after shaving, leave the lather on for 2-5 mins before rinsing. This kills the bacteria that creates the tiny follicular infections which become itchy and inflamed 4) moisturize 5) if you find you still get itchy, use the benzoyl peroxide cleanser the next day after shaving too in the same method. Hope this helps!!
Honestly it was probably for the best that stereotypical Barbie and Ken broke up. I'm assuming since Margot was in the first ever barbie outfit at the beginning, Ken is the original Ken as well. Ruth Handler (ghost grandma in the movie) originally named Barbie and Ken after her own children, Barbara and Kenneth (that's why Barbie takes that name in the end). It's very very very weird to name a dating couple after a pair of SIBLINGS 😬. And yes Billy, Ruth and her husband lost control of Mattel because of tax evasion lol
Great reaction but yes this movie is not a kids movie. It’s for the girls who grew up playing with Barbie who are now adults and as a Barbie fan I loved this movie
26:21 yes Pride and Prejudice commentary. The Jane Austen Girlies love introducing people to PnP. After seeing PnP in the depression Barbie commercial all my friends and I were like oh I didn’t know I was in this movie😂 #bingers
Earring Magic Ken is one of Mattel’s highest selling dolls ever. No other Barbie or Ken doll has ever reach the numbers of Earring Magic Ken, and the story behind him is so hilarious because they tried to make him cooler so girls would buy more Ken dolls, but they modeled him after the men who would go to gay raves; so every gay man in the 80’s went nuts for him and he would sell out so fast; Mattel discontinued him of course which was a mistake on their part, he is one of the rarest dolls around and worth a lot to collectors
It's so funny how angry Billy is at the father. Yeah he's just there for 2 scenes and servers no real purpose to the movie, and that is exactly how it feels to watch many movies as a woman. In a lot of movies women are only the love interest or another random side character that serves no purpose and could easily be removed without the story changing one bit. It's so frustrating to watch, exactly as Billy is frustrated at how pointless the dad character is. Now you know the feeling. I don't know if that is what the writes intended, but it is what I personally see in this.
2:32 Look. I KNEW I DIDN’T DREAM UP THAT MOVIE AS A KID!😭 My favorite color is PINK! 💓🎀 And I just loved Ken's song so much. I resonate with him even though I’m a straight female.😂😭

Fun reaction as always Billy! I agree, this is not as fun as I was expecting for a movie about Barbie. I hope you'll react to "Life Size" (2000) starring Lindsay Lohan and Tyra Banks. That had a Barbie theme that your daughter will love and that film is actually fun!..At least I loved it a lot as a kid :)
Sorry Billy, I was skimming yesterday. I'm watching from the beginning now and you said you already watched Life Size. That would've been a cool reaction though :)
Yeah this movie was never meant for kids but I loved this whole movie. It was hilarious and a great talk about society and standards and also how to get over things
Beach Ken (our main Ken) is the Ken Doll that's just represents the Beach. So his job being just 'beach' is him literally existing and chilling on the beach.
37:21 The old lady she spoke with was the "creator" of Barbie. Them walking off together was Barbie choosing to become human. And the joke here is that being human meant she now finally had "one."
There was a pregnant Barbie in the 90's. My cousin had it and I was so jealous, because she got it from abroad and since our country was fresh out of communism, even regular Barbies were extra expensive. It got discontinued because her belly was detachable and there were tiny babies inside that was deemed a choking hazard, not because it was weird 🤣

This isn’t a kids movie Billy. It’s for the adult women who USED to play with Barbie.

yeah it's 13+ anyways. teenagers are old enough to understand the themes of the movie
Yeah despite the stupid amount of parents who brought their 5 year olds there thinking it’d be cute and and funny and animated lol
Yeah my sister who is 18 wanted to watch it so badly :)
That's funny cause I did take my 5 year old she kinda liked it she was lost tho and definitely didn't get all the big words kept asking what's that, what's that, poor kid I was also expecting a more light hearted, fun, silly adventure but it's okay we just watched the animated ones they'll never be beat
The pregnant Barbie story is true! A lot of parents were mad about her
OH, there is a dirty joke about it that I probably shouldn't share.

@@nmoney6655 Pregnant Midge was controversial because parents believed she encouraged teen pregnancy. She was also condemned for not having a wedding ring and being pregnant. The girl being called Sasha is a tribute to Bratz! Her friends at the lunch table are also representing the other Bratz dolls

I find it interesting to see guys react to this movie. It feels to me that they miss a lot of stuff in the movie because it doesn't play to their experience and so they don't enjoy it. It's also very absurdist humor which isn't a lot of people's cup of tea.
I agree. Some of the reactors (men) lose interest as soon as it’s just a scene with Barbie and don’t really listen. I get they cannot associate with it (maybe or just parts of it) but it’s for me kind of ignorant.
But again not everyone, just some.

@@acciodelusion and I asked you to point them out to me. Plus wouldn’t they be completely normal behavior for anyone? The entire reason we want representation in leads is because people naturally connect with characters that look like themselves. Otherwise there would be no need to focus on representation.
Fr!! Everyone is overlooking her because Ken is comedic relief. She’s literally killing it in this movie!!!

More than you know gabby!! ❤️
@@nmoney6655 literally no one asked
I was obsessedddd with Bratz, I watched the show all the movies but oddly I think I’ve only ever had one bratz doll

The joke about the BBC Pride and Prejudice got the biggest laugh of the movie during the showing I went to. I've watched it so many times while feeling down.
With Colins BBC-Mr Darcy being the best one.
Trust me, MOST women of a certain age have seen and loved that movie, and it's a great one to watch when we need our faith in love and romance to be restored.

yes!!! it's for all of us who connect with america's character in the film, and i love that so much!

"No way that man just walked up and slapped her butt."
Actually, yeah. That has happened to me before. It's a thing. And and I reacted the exact same way Barbie did.
The casting for this movie was literal perfection! And yes to anyone wondering, all the dolls they mentioned were real and got discontinued
The fact that this is the second edit to cut out Americas monologue that ive seen this week, one of the most important and heartfelt moments of the movie, and this one followed up with I just wanna see a fun kids movie. 🤦♀️😅
This definitely wasn’t a kids movie, I think Mattel made this movie for the generation who used to play with Barbie’s as kids
It technically not a kids movie but kids can watch it with parents permission and its not just for adults either. It's PG -13, as in for teens and up. There are quite a lot of movies that are loved and are well known amongst kids too like the Goonies , Jurassic Park, most MCU movies...let's not gatekeep or think kids can't get certain concepts or if they don't it won't just go over their heads. I think it also may make kids interested in Barbie again...some at least
@@hlabhlabhlab the only kids who would probably enjoy it would be kids 11 and up, they would understand what’s going on in the movie better than children under age 8 or 9
@@colbimcdaniel658 Yes & no. They may not understand some of the big words or political messages but they will get the gist of Barbies existentialism and existence. The plot is kind of similar to the toy story movies and life size with the subject matter about things and their purpose. What they don't get will go over their heads line many other of 13 films
I thought women stop caring long time ago about what men thought of them , and are doing exactly what they want to do now 🤔
@@nanaamapay9632it's hard to stop caring when it affects us on a societal level and not just a personal one

Now I’ve never even heard of idiosyncratic!! You talk real fancy Billy😂 anyways looking forward to this! Growing up with all the animated movies I had high expectations and may I say this Barbie movie was so much fun to watch😍
Small details I just noticed after watching the movie again through your reaction, the teens (Sasha and her friends) were mean and antagonistic against barbie since they kind of resembled the bratz dolls and the reason why Margot Barbie doesn't like Ken or want anything to do with him (as opposed to some other Barbies who had romantic relationships with their own Kens) is because her person, doesn't personally like Ken, so Margot Barbie is just a reflection of that
Somebody did go hard on that guitar solo in “im just Ken” it was Slash of Guns and Roses. 🤘🏻
Slash is a legend!!
I love that billy talked about bratz, realized the daughters name was the same as one of the bratz but didn’t make the connection that she and her friends were ment to resemble/represent a bratz dolls
im a girl but kens side of the story was my favorite part
i found it awesome that they twisted it from "a woman only existing to make a man happy" to ken only existing to be with barbie
the way i would describe this movie is its like an onion, it has layers.
this movie is powerful and important and i will recommend it to anyone
Barbie IS Far From Idiot. Probably the movie of the year. So much deep than expected. And Margot Robbie was born to play Barbie. And Its obviously Not a movie for kids.
You clearly didn’t look up the definition of the word
...her son was named Kenneth. Barbie was the first doll in history that
didn't teach girls to be moms.
Billy anytime I feel down, or am having a rough time, I watch your videos and you never fail to make me smile!!!
I second that 🙋♀️
While Ryan Gosling was a little older than perfect, I’d rather have a 43 year old Ryan than a 30 year old anyone else.
Fun fact the lil girls going of on barbie are actually all named after thee Bratz dolls , chloe ? yasmin, sasha and jade
IS IT A SHAKE WEIGHT OR IS IT A FIGHT????
Billy that knocked me out 😂
I’m still waiting to find out!!
Just saw this movie recently and I've been going through reaction. It's so perfectly in tune with the movie and ironic how so many guys do not get this movie at all, don't listen, and talk over anddont listen to the themes and project their own wrong themes into it. That's a man for you.
They did alot of research for Barbie. This movie was so amazing. I enjoyed it. The movie was amazing
Thanks for watching!
Yesss, thank you for covering this movie! I love the shoutout to Mellow/Mellverse on here! Love you both so much, hope you two collab some more in the future!
Billy reacting to Barbie wasn't a want but a need
34:08
“Ken… is me…”
“And I’m Barbie….”
“And I’m billy-”
Love it😂❤
I watched Barbie in the theater and was sitting next to a woman with a teen-ish girl. My sister and I laughed through much of the movie, as did the woman with the girl. The girl would ask the woman "why's it funny" and she would say "it's just funny".
If that's not a good gauge of who the movie is for, idk what is.
I'm sorry, but Billy's reaction to Sugar Daddy Ken existing is just PRICELESS
Been binging all your movie commentaries, so glad I found your channel 😂
Glad you like them for real
I played with Barbies and Bratz equally. They were a big family. *cries in 30* 😭😭😭 This movie struck a nestolgia, and greif chord for me. I was ugly crying in the theater. Billy is funny though.😂
The name of the Bratz dolls were the names of the main little girl character, and her friends at the lunch table scene.
"I want to make ideas, not just be one"
It's definitely a movie for my age group, since younger kids don't play much with barbies anymore. At least not the way they used to! I feel the demographic was millennials, those of us growing up in the 80s-90s and early 00s. (Though some outside of that probably did enjoy it too)
Enjoyed seeing your take on it though!
I went to see this with my mom expecting a light hearted comedy. Left crying & went into an existential crisis for at lest a few weeks.
Sorry Billy, Barbie is not a kids movie. But as usual your reaction was hilarious 😅

I love that the first scene of the movie was a rip on 2001: A Space Odyssey.
I feel like this cast was phenomenal! The Ryan Gosling dancing in this film is hilariously like the dancing he did as a kid. Look it up, it's phenomenal!
Those are the exact rollerblades from Rollerblade Barbie & Ken! 😂😂😂
That's a major part of why I love this movie....they depicted so many actual items and clothing that Barbie had.
What I played with was literally like Bratz and Monster High, barely looked at Barbie 😂
Has Billy done a commentary for 'Monster High' (2022)? That might be next alongside 'Monster High 2' (2023).
This movie was lightning in a bottle. I kept an open mind because I know people were saying some negative things about it and after watching I realized they were just incredibly biased lol this movie is fire
We appreciate all your effort and hard work. Keep working hard.
Ryan Gosling was my fav part of this movie lol!! I laughed every time he was on screen 😄
This movie is SUBLIME!
Fun fact: this movie caused a world wide pink paint shortage also alan is a real doll (and he didnt sell much thats why theres only one)😂
✨For the beard/shaving✨if this is a problem that has been with you for a long time, it could be a condition known as “pseudofolliculitis barbae”.
Barbara Handler is the name of the daughter of Ruth Handler, the inventor or the Barbie doll. her son was named Kenneth.
Margo’s Barbie got tired of the Barbieland and like she said in the end..she wants to be a person who comes up with the ideas/imagination..NOT BE THE IDEA.
BRATZ SUPREMACY!! 😂💖 the four girls at the lunch table were supposed to be bratz dolls
I'm glad they kinda used it
Hey Billy! Here’s how I now avoid getting razor bumps:
1) exfoliate the day before shaving
2) try using a straight blade or safety razor as multiple blades will cut hair below skin surface, making them more likely to get trapped when they grow back out
3) use a benzoyl peroxide cleanser after shaving, leave the lather on for 2-5 mins before rinsing. This kills the bacteria that creates the tiny follicular infections which become itchy and inflamed
4) moisturize
5) if you find you still get itchy, use the benzoyl peroxide cleanser the next day after shaving too in the same method.

Idk I like them together....they may get together again just a new iteration or gen someday
Great reaction but yes this movie is not a kids movie. It’s for the girls who grew up playing with Barbie who are now adults and as a Barbie fan I loved this movie

No I was just upset that he was there to begin with honestly 😂 I wasn’t looking for him to have more lines. I just woulda preferred to never see him

Maybe I'm just older now, but life size was a great kid movie 😂
Yeah this movie was never meant for kids but I loved this whole movie. It was hilarious and a great talk about society and standards and also how to get over things
Beach Ken (our main Ken) is the Ken Doll that's just represents the Beach. So his job being just 'beach' is him literally existing and chilling on the beach.
This ended up being so much better then i thought. This is for adults. As always you're commentary is a must.
The costumes and sets on this movie were amazing! Seeing some of the Barbies I played with brought to life was so nostalgic
