I started learning with TTMIK with their free lessons in 2012, although my learning has been on and off over the years, in 2021 I was able to win the GKS scholarship, studied 1 year Korean and then did my masters degree in science. I graduated and now I'm on my 4th year of living in Korea with TOPIK 5. I wouldn´t have been here if not for the free lessons TTMIK offered that fueled my interest and motivation from the beginning. I will be forever thankful to TTMIK!
I don't have a Korean keyboard at work but I really wanted to type this still! I started my journey with TTMIK 4 years ago and I am now at a point where I can effortlessly understnd this video. I've always admired your openness in discussing your business (such as in Didi's podcast) and find all these insights super interesting :) I'm excited to see what TTMIK has planned in the future!
i’ve been on and off korean for a couple years, i noticed that as of jan 1st 2025 the TTMIK course was no longer free, obviously i signed up and got the app and im just so impressed how far along TTMIK has come. I started listening around 2016 and everything that is taught is so well explained, always, and now with the app it’s even more easy and accessible than it used to be. thank you to the TTMIK team for making the process easy, fun, and an experience!!
I have a personal story I would like to share with you Hyunwoo. I love learning languages. I went to University back in 2012 to study Mandarin Chinese. For a number of reasons, I failed that language and degree, and I remained absolutely convinced that I should keep learning Mandarin Chinese anyway until 2025. The issue was that the language style did not match my learning style. I would spend hours every day trying to learn Mandarin Chinese and I never could say much, other than 我会说一点中文,我的中文不太好. I knew I wanted to learn an East Asian language but I looked at the differences between Mandarin Chinese (easiest grammar), Korean (easiest alphabet) and Japanese (easiest pronunciation). My pronunciation was already good for my Chinese language skills, so I did not attempt Japanese, for obvious reasons. I never really got a grasp of Chinese characters. After some time, I recently shifted my language focus entirely to Korean after I realised I could read Hangeul script easily and confidently. TTMIK is a website I use daily to study Korean and I love your educational videos. You present yourself as an intelligent, capable man and I admire both you and Kyeong-Eun for setting up a great interactive website and developing it into a true success. I admire all of you who work there (I miss Yeji, and hope that she is doing okay) and congratulate you all on this success. Thank you from my heart. I will learn Korean every day, thanks to your help. Chris Airey 한성민
Thank you so much for sharing your story, 성민! It's true that some languages suit you better, at least during a certain point in your life. I'm glad that we could offer you something that helped you continue learning! p.s. Yeji is doing great!! : ) She's studying hard for her next exams.
Congratulations on 15 fruitful years! It was nice to find out where the name came from and learn the history of the company. TTMIK has been invaluable to me over my 2 1/2 years of study. And I just recommended this source to my son. (His girlfriend is from Daegu and wants him to learn the language ;) I have 3 of your books and they are ALL beautiful and extremely well laid out & thought out. The TH-cam channel is informative and also a lot of fun. I will definitely subscribe to the website in the future. Thank you all for your hard work.
Congratulations Hyunoo. After much delay I'm back with more determination than ever. Every day I use material with my daughter (who understands Korean speaking really well) and have a much better foundation now. My reading and writing has improved. The ultimate goal is for us both to be fluent and my daughter is extra inspiration for me never to stop. Unfortunately Korean was her mother tongue when she was very small but my wife stopped using it due to her delay in speaking English. We look back at videos now with regret as her Korean was definitely decent. Anyway I think we will finally make it now as all three of us are determined and are using every means possible (story time, TV, korean only time etc).
Well done, 선생님, for dreaming so big! This was a wonderful introduction of yourself and the whole TTMIK Empire!!! I can see this video being used as your unofficial resume at the upcoming polyglot conferences and future interviews. You are still growing and learning new languages for yourself which makes you a superior teacher as you see it from both sides every day. I am so excited to see what you have in store for us with the new speaking program as this must have been on your personal wish list! If this video is your resume for folks that haven't met you yet, maybe my comments can add to your character reference. I am so impressed by how much you have accomplished and yet you are still humble, accessible and patient with beginners. I know because I use your beautiful books and travel with your e-books. I have studied with some of your extensive online courses. (Give me more time and I will do them all!) I interact with your kind community daily. I watch your social media platforms for tips and giggles. Every day, I work on the seemingly never ending Stories app for reading and listening. In live classes, I make silly mistakes and you are kind and encouraging. I have only studied with you for 8 months, and I am not any more special than your other dear students, yet I know you know who I am. Some might ask how you manage to sustain that level of connection with such a huge community, but I know it isn't because of you alone. You have cleverly built yourself into the system, so your team as a whole creates and connects and you have the brightest minds condensing the best ideas. I have seen you give them the credit they deserve and you yourself work within your (self-imposed?) limitations to the company. You make time for your family and promote a healthier work/life balance in the office. I feel like your deep connections to these supporting people are what makes you and your brand so very very special. The point of learning a new language after all is to connect with more people. I see that truth at the core of everything you do with TTMIK, including charging for your services so that you can sustainably produce quality products. Your diligent efforts over the last fifteen years have turned into the easiest systematic approach for learning Korean I have found. A few clicks transport me to what feels like a complete immersive experience with the best people built in. And you make it so much fun to learn! I can only imagine how far you and your team will go in the next fifteen years. I will be there to cheer you on, and I will Talk To You in Korean!
Thank you so much Audi for your wonderful words. They truly mean a lot to me!! 😍 I am so grateful for all the support I’ve gotten over the years from so many Korean learners and I will keep doing my best to be the best version of myself.
