      I agree. I don't mix edm but that merge knob just spoils it for the people like James Hype who do it all themselves. It's not fair if someone can press a button that does everything for them and everyone around them thinks there is loads of skill involved.

    as someone who moved up from the ddj 400, ive got to say, give this controller a miss folks, as good as having 4 channels, and the bigger jog wheels are, the price of this unit is only £69 less than what i paid for my DDJ 800 new, it also lacks balanced inputs and outputs which makes the audio vulnerable to ac hum, which i had issues with on my previous ddj 400, once i moved up to the ddj 800, AC hum was eliminated. Even as a hobbiest, i would totally avoid this controller folks, for a little extra the DDJ 800 is a much smarter choice, and if you really need the 4 channels, the DDJ 1000 if you want to remain in the Pioneer ecosystem.

    I'd love to see you make a 2020/2021 Video about "old" hardware. I'm still rocking my VCI-400 with timecodes and digital inputs that works perfectly with Traktor (Tried VDJ and Serato but I'm not a user so I can't say if it's good enough) it has all you pointed missing (balanced / booth / line ins ...)
    Also about the "magic effects" you should try the Traktor F1 with Tekken mapping on Traktor. It's just amazing and as the description says it's instant gratification.
    Anyways, great video I'd love to try this one because of the big jogs as you pointed out, it is a great selling point, even if the big cutter works in mysterious ways with the actual software.

      @@digitaldjtips be careful some great old hardware isn't compatible with anything today (unfortunately) i came across some great devices that I didn't buy because I couldn't find a way to be sure they worked on windows 7 (at least) like the xponent from M audio, the first NS7 or the allen heath xone 3D. Can you simulate the Merge FX on a cheaper controller like the DDJ-400? Would you use pads for that type of thing?

    • @digitaldjtips
      @digitaldjtips  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, you can't because the Merge knob is doing an awful lot at once. You could get close on any DJ gear, especially with a bit of mapping, but not exactly.

    Hey great review Phil, but I have to disagree with you when you say that the controller is not for Serato. When you said that I almost didn't buy it, thank God I did. I own two audio-technica's lp1240 And1 S9. I was looking for something that had the same feeling but for mobile DJs. I used to own a ns72 but that thing was just too clunky to be carrying around. So I sold it last year. But the DDJ flx six is actually perfect and light and has great jog wheels and has some really amazing features. Now as far as as the software side it works great with Serato you just have to have a knowledge of the way cerato operates and once you power it up and use it for about a week or so you will start to get used to it. Everything that's on the ns72 and all the other controllers for Serato is there but you just have to get used to the layout

    Is it class compliant for plug-n-play with  M1? Also, reports are Rekordbox DJ is working fine on M1.
    The MergeFX will be good for quick mixing too... not for every transition, but utilized sporadically between normal or regular transitions, cuts, drops, mixes, etc. The jog-cutter should sound better as long as the sample is longer.

    What would be comparable to this that works well with Serato and has the bigger jog wheels? I'm using a older DDJ SB 2 now and am thinking about upgrading to a slightly bigger and more feature full controller without breaking the bank.

    Great review Phil. I think they should have done a little better with this controller. On the other hand, I'm seriously considering buying the 1000 SRT (I currently own the SX2). I'm a mobile dj and need portability but also something that gives me quality sound and important features. Do you think this is a good time to buy the 1000 SRT? Or should I wait a few months to see what they come up with?. Thanks in advance.

    • @digitaldjtips
      @digitaldjtips  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure why you want to change from your SX2. They are different controllers, but one is not immediately better than the other.

    • @AT-wl9yq
      @AT-wl9yq 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have both. The SX2 works with both RB and Serato, but with the 1000 you have to pick one or the other. The 1000 has some extra features, but the build quality doesn't inspire confidence. Compared to the SX2, the 1000 feels light and cheaply made.
      You can do a couple of things to enhance your system without spending a ton of money on a new controller. If you need more buttons/functionality, you can get something like a Launchpad Pro, and just map features to it. Its very easy to do. Also, a lot of mobile DJ's are finding out that adding a small analog mixer to their setups is a really smart move. It takes care of all the mic issues that mobile DJ's seem to run into. Its also the best way to do a back up in case something happens to your controller. You can have your computer connected to your controller and a stereo input on an external mixer at the same time. Mixing from a laptop isn't ideal, but its better than an iPhone. If you do a search on youtube, there are plenty of mobile DJ's that go over all the details better than I can.

Or should I just skip it all because I’ve already learned the basics that I need and just want full control and go for the 1000 already?
