      Hi there, This may be confusing as pure platinum is harder than pure gold, however due to the fact that 18ct White gold is an alloy, containing 75% pure gold and 25% other metals to improve it's strength and appearance, it becomes harder than platinum which is used in jewellery at almost it's pure form, with 95% platinum and containing only 5% other metals. I hope this helps!

    It does not take DECADES to notice the difference in white gold, especially when worn on the daily. Trust me I have a white gold ring

    When you polish platinum to bring back the shine do you lose material?

    • @LarsenJewellerySydney
      @LarsenJewellerySydney  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Brandon, Yes you do lose a very small amount of material, but much less than when you polish 18ct Gold. Hope this helps!

    Both beautiful metals, but the thing I like most about white gold is that you can get it re-dipped any time and it'll look just as new as the day you bought it.

    If a marker of a chain 18k is it a pure white gold?

    • @LarsenJewellerySydney
      @LarsenJewellerySydney  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bebing, 18ct white gold, contains 75% pure yellow gold and offers the perfect blend of strength and purity. Using pure yellow gold is too soft to make jewellery, so an alloy of metals are added to increase it's strength.
      White gold is an attractive mixture of metals, such as yellow gold and other metals such as silver and palladium. The higher the carats, the more durable the piece: this means 18ct white gold will be stronger than 9ct white gold and will also age better.

      @@LarsenJewellerySydney 10K is more durable, because it contains more alloy metal parts. Most men's items are 10K. Gold is soft that's why they add alloy materials. 18K softer and more expensive than 9 or 10K.
