Since I am a pigment nerd I looked up the pigment information on the Kuretake paints. I was pleasantly surprised that the cadmium colours do not contain cadmium 👍
Some are okay and some are not, but I've point had the opportunity to test the classic set of 12. I'll have to get these in the window as soon as I can.
I like the idea of the multi surface media journal, but I wish they’d put some different coloured toned and black papers, some hot press and rough watercolour pages. Some sanded paper or paper suitable for pastels…that’s the kind of book I’d absolutely love. ❤
I love the journal . You can use watercolor ground on the fabric surfaces to make it a complete watercolor journal ❤ love all of your items . It’s always exciting to open up a box of paint supplies yay 😊. Your kitties are gorgeous I’m a cat mom myself ❤

Wonderful haul! I want a whole community of people using the mixed media journal so we can see what everyone does with it. Kuretake aren't lightfast, and it's kept me from using them, which is a shame. I need to pull mine back out and play. Those colors are lovely!
That mixed media journal has got to be the most unique, multipurpose art journal I have ever seen! And the fact that it has 4 signatures in it, you could do a Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter book and designate one signature to each season, challenging yourself to complete the book by the end of the year. Amazing! Thanks for sharing!! 🙏😁

Happy birthday! The mixed media sketchbook looks like a lot of fun. When I saw the burlap pages I immediately thought of using a needle and thread and creating some kind of embroidered pattern on it and then adding colours, sequins, glitter and beads. I would also use some gold thread to create something beautiful on it. Not sure if that’s something you’re into, but I think it might be fun! 😊

I'm starting to think putting myself on a no buy is the same as putting myself on a very restrictive diet. It just makes me crave more! So...I'll say I'm on a low buy, very monitored spending until I get back into a healthy spending habit. :D I'd really like to try Golden opens some day!! But, like you, I have a studio FULL of stuff for me to play with, and I have a haul video I'll do soon with a few more things I've added. Is that Gansai tambi empty palette thing plastic? The bonus one they sent you? I could see that being really useful when you want to take a few colors out of the big box and use them for a painting. I remember it being a bit of a pain to deal with the pans sliding around. If no one else claims it, I totally will!! We should do an art retreat where we bind our own sketchbooks. My favorite sketchbook is the one I made myself with tons of different kinds of paper in it. OK. Sorry for the novel, I'm typing on a computer so I didn't feel limited in being extra chatty!!

The Caran d'Ache Studio Gouache was on my wish list this year, but I'm not sure about it - I've seen quite a few mixed opinions, so I'm curious to see your take on it. I have acquired most of the Kuretake and Kissho Gansai paints and have been loving them. I might see if my hubby can 3D print a smaller portable palette for them or maybe order a nice one from Etsy for my birthday.

I want to do a sort of daily log of my vacation and I think it'll work well for that and I'm also curious how I'll get along with it. I love the palettes that ArtsToEmbers sells on Etsy and they do seem reasonable priced for the most part. But it would be neat to print your own, too!

I have done a few of that kind of books, some with just different kind of w/c papers, some with mixed drawing, w/c and craft papers, but never gone that far, burlap and canvas... Also sizes a5 and smaller. I've done bigger ones with only drawing paper. Paper is soooo cheap here. Thank you for an amazing video, really enjoyed watching it and all the lovely new supplies

I shopped until 11:59 New Year's Eve. Now I need the 21 full pan palette. I want to redo Denise's Earth Friendly palette in full pans. Taking inspiration from you and will put the least used colors in 1/2 pans. White Night's came out with a new granulating palette. Has 2 stunning earthy reds. Will make exception to no buy if they ever bring them out in single pans. My goals are to do the advent calendar and finish 2 online classes. Oops-have wanted that Carandache gouache set forever. Looking forward to your in depth review. If you like it will make it my mother's day gift to my self. Other exception will do something similar for my birthday.

I made my own mixed media book a few years back…its almost full, if i finish by sept it will be 4 years. I just complied the paper i like, then brought it to my local stationery shop and had it spiral bound

What a lovely bundle of supplies. I'm planning on getting into pastels more, especially oil pastels - I want to pick up a set of sennelier oil pastels but I'm being a coward - it's alot of money for something I'm not sure of yet. So I'll use what I have for a while and see if it sticks before I splurge my cash.

I love the CaranD'ache Gouache in pans.. the main reason is, I have them out rly fast and can start to paint.. 😊 (And they are awesome quality paints) .. These Paul Rubens colors look so nice as well! And on my list are for a while the Knicker Poster colors, they should dry very plain.. like printed. Are the gouache paints similar to that? I have been thinking about making my own art journal with custom paper types because super frustrating to be some limited. So cool that someone is finally making one!
The Caran dache gouache surprised me, great colors but those still will remain in my wish list. When I saw the kuretake swatches I think pastel colors are not for me, red though looked wonderful. Great products and review btw. I would like to know if you have a preferred acrylic gouache that you could recommend.
Wow…so many different new products… that’s a great wish list haul to end the year / start the year! The mixed media journal is really cool! It’s definitely too big for me, but the smaller size might be something I’d try some day. I’m not sure if some of those mixed media pages would be wasted on me; I like the different paper surfaces, but can’t see myself using a burlap page 😂. I did a low-buy last year and did really well for the first 7 months, but I am disappointed with the last 5 months. Given that, I am going to have another go at a low buy in hopes it lasts for 12 months (preferably longer). I did get art store gift cards for Christmas and my birthday so I will be able to pick up replacements if/when I run out of something. I do NOT want to try any new brands, new palettes, new mediums or new sketchbooks this year… I have SO much stuff to use and I don’t like it sitting there and going to waste. To help with that, I plan to avoid watching any haul videos, I think they encourage me to spend on things I wouldn’t normally be interested in. During the last couple of months of 2023, I did pay for Sarah Burns 2024 gouache subscription, so I’ll be getting something new every month. However, having spent that amount of money up-front is a reason I don’t want to be tempted by other items that I don’t need… art budget for the year is gone in one shot 😂 (between that, one patreon and my Get Gouachey subscription). My goal for 2024 is to actually DO all of those lessons and spend more time watercolour/gouache painting!
Yeah, I was pretty intimidated when I saw the burlap, but I'm determined to make it work. I think you've set great parameters for yourself. I would have a hard time not watching haul videos, but that's a really smart idea. Everything is so tempting! Good luck!
The Amazon link for the Paul Rubens set has color names... sort of. They are: 121 - Dark Blue & Green, 151 - Purple & Black, 161 - Purple and Blue, 171 - Blue & Green, 172 - Blue & Dark Green, and 152 - Purple & Pink. And interestingly, the 8x10 Dina Wakely book swaps out the burlap for Denim... and now I'm torn. =l= Because of course I am.
Hahaha, very useful color names, LOL! But thank you for looking that up! I think I would like the denim more than the burlap because the burlap is very flexible and full of holes, but a challenge either way! And I think the Kraft paper is a different color in the small one?

The smaller ranger sketchbook is my current sketchbook. It's very big and cumbersome and I love it!!

I have done a few of that kind of books, some with just different kind of w/c papers, some with mixed drawing, w/c and craft papers, but never gone that far, burlap and canvas... Also sizes a5 and smaller. I've done bigger ones with only drawing paper. Paper is soooo cheap here.

Happy belated birthday! Everytime I see the Dina Wakely sketchbook I get the urge to make one similer to use. I should write it down on a post it for when I start a new sketchbook. Those Paul Ruebens are lush.

I shopped until 11:59 New Year's Eve. Now I need the 21 full pan palette. I want to redo Denise's Earth Friendly palette in full pans. Taking inspiration from you and will put the least used colors in 1/2 pans. White Night's came out with a new granulating palette. Has 2 stunning earthy reds. Will make exception to no buy if they ever bring them out in single pans. My goals are to do the advent calendar and finish 2 online classes. Oops-have wanted that Carandache gouache set forever. Looking forward to your in depth review. If you like it will make it my mother's day gift to my self. Other exception will do something similar for my birthday.

I'm hoping I'll really like the Caran D'Ache gouache set. I decided I am going to bring it on my trip and hopefully use it quite a bit, so I should have a good feel for it by the end of the month.

I wish it had cold and hot presses paper and black paper and black watercolor paper in the DW book. About the Hanum bk. I like their cellulose paper a lot. I think more than their cotton.

I made my own mixed media book a few years back…its almost full, if i finish by sept it will be 4 years. I just complied the paper i like, then brought it to my local stationery shop and had it spiral bound

I'm planning on getting into pastels more, especially oil pastels - I want to pick up a set of sennelier oil pastels but I'm being a coward - it's alot of money for something I'm not sure of yet. So I'll use what I have for a while and see if it sticks before I splurge my cash.

Oh you bought wonderful things! I'm hooked from you choice! I love the CaranD'ache Gouache in pans.. the main reason is, I have them out rly fast and can start to paint.. 😊 (And they are awesome quality paints) .. These Paul Rubens colors look so nice as well! And on my list are for a while the Knicker Poster colors, they should dry very plain.. like printed. Are the gouache paints similar to that? (they are easier to get) This journal is amazing! I also want to have it now 😅.. Awesome video! Thanks for sharing with us! ❤

I have been thinking about making my own art journal with custom paper types because super frustrating to be some limited. So cool that someone is finally making one!

The Caran dache gouache surprised me, great colors but those still will remain in my wish list. When I saw the kuretake swatches I think pastel colors are not for me, red though looked wonderful. Great products and review btw. I would like to know if you have a preferred acrylic gouache that you could recommend.
I like the Holbein Acryl Gouache. It's really nice to use.
For acrylic swatches you can always add a black line like you did with the white to see transparency. 🙂 Happy New Year!

Wow…so many different new products… that’s a great wish list haul to end the year / start the year! The mixed media journal is really cool! It’s definitely too big for me, but the smaller size might be something I’d try some day. I’m not sure if some of those mixed media pages would be wasted on me; I like the different paper surfaces, but can’t see myself using a burlap page 😂.
I did a low-buy last year and did really well for the first 7 months, but I am disappointed with the last 5 months. Given that, I am going to have another go at a low buy in hopes it lasts for 12 months (preferably longer). I did get art store gift cards for Christmas and my birthday so I will be able to pick up replacements if/when I run out of something. I do NOT want to try any new brands, new palettes, new mediums or new sketchbooks this year… I have SO much stuff to use and I don’t like it sitting there and going to waste. To help with that, I plan to avoid watching any haul videos, I think they encourage me to spend on things I wouldn’t normally be interested in.
During the last couple of months of 2023, I did pay for Sarah Burns 2024 gouache subscription, so I’ll be getting something new every month. However, having spent that amount of money up-front is a reason I don’t want to be tempted by other items that I don’t need… art budget for the year is gone in one shot 😂 (between that, one patreon and my Get Gouachey subscription). My goal for 2024 is to actually DO all of those lessons and spend more time watercolour/gouache painting!
Yeah, I was pretty intimidated when I saw the burlap, but I'm determined to make it work. I think you've set great parameters for yourself. I would have a hard time not watching haul videos, but that's a really smart idea. Everything is so tempting! Good luck!

The Amazon link for the Paul Rubens set has color names... sort of. They are: 121 - Dark Blue & Green, 151 - Purple & Black, 161 - Purple and Blue, 171 - Blue & Green, 172 - Blue & Dark Green, and 152 - Purple & Pink.
And interestingly, the 8x10 Dina Wakely book swaps out the burlap for Denim... and now I'm torn. =l= Because of course I am.
Hahaha, very useful color names, LOL! But thank you for looking that up! I think I would like the denim more than the burlap because the burlap is very flexible and full of holes, but a challenge either way! And I think the Kraft paper is a different color in the small one?
