- The Buccaneer Aviation Group (TBAG) held their 30 Years and Still Going Strong event last week, celebrating 30 years since the Buccaneer retired from service. The group preserves two ex-Royal Air Force Buccaneers, XX894 & XW544 and have done since 2004. XX894 was set to do the fast taxi run, however an issue with the brakes prevented this. XW544 stepped in and completed the fast taxi run. If you are wondering, this aircraft is currently being sanded ready for a fresh coat of paint in the summer! The group do a fantastic job keeping a bit of history alive. If you wish to support them, feel free to check out their website - the-buccaneer-aviation-group....
This footage was shot handheld using a Canon XA11.

I swear if I ever won the Euromillions I'd be involved in this type of thing and support all those enthusiastic and talented chaps that keep these old birds alive . Living history ! Bravo 👏
We all would!!
Amen to that brother, keeping those old jets going you’d have to live in heaven..24 volts 115 volts…thumbs up start them free rhem
I like the distressed camo pattern, really nice
I had the honour of serving on 237 OCU at Honington and Lossiemouth. Its do hood to see these still being able to taxi. I thought they would end up as scrap after Bruntingthorpe was sold. Well done all at TBAG. Happy days id love to come and see them one day
She looked like she was ready to fly :-) Lovely aircraft.
What a magnificent beast! This aircraft looks so ungainly, but it was a hell of a fighter/bomber. Glad she is being restored.
Its good to see there's still one of these in good use
If only she had a permit to fly , Thanks for sharing 👍
How tempting that must have been for the Pilot!!!
“The Old Lady of Lossiemouth” what an aircraft…watching these many years ago at Lossie taking off/landing was amazing. The sound when they came in to land actually hit you when the tail was opened! But only a few feet above you they would power up for a go around and every bone and muscle in your body shook. The good old days lol.
I used to spend hours in the old bunker on the golf course watching these guys and others land.
@@marklavender39 whenever a Buck was above you it got your attention 😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫
She’s clearly in the middle of a re-paint. Sure wish the government would allow these to fly.
Not really a government decision, its down to money and ticking boxes at the CAA.
Pretty sure the buccaneer that is/was at scampton had approval to fly for hawker aviation who flew hunters in the aggressor role on mod contracts?
I might be wrong
@jordanroberts7692 Correct. However, HHA never found a contract for her sadly.
Should be flying, maximum respect to those who spend their time keeping these legends running! Hero’s in my eyes
It will look so nice with a fresh paint job.
Loving the new camo scheme, oh wait...
My father was involved in the developement of the Buccaneer. He spent time in South Africa at Waterkloof AB instructing the SAAF.
Well done all at TBAG.
They really do fantastic work!
Thanks for sharing the Buccaneer is one of my favourite aircraft superb in its day tbag do a fantastic job job keeping these aircraft alive 👍👏🇬🇧
The sound of those engines winding up and down is something else, hope she gets some fresh paint sometime soon!
11/10 for keeping that Buc on the runway 4 to 5 seconds in, it looked it wanted to lift the front wheel!
The flaking paint is almost like a digital camouflage scheme. A magnificent plane.
Hahah i just said exactly that above hahaha
If Ark Royal was still operating in 1982 it would be interesting to see how the Buccaners & Phantoms stood up to the Skyhawks & Mirages.
Well the Buccaneer wouldn’t.. hopefully it wouldn’t have been spotted cause it’s no dogfighter.. but point taken
The Buccaneers and Lossiemouth are synonymous with RAF. The way things are developing we need these and Tornados back in service! 😎
Just imagine, in 1982, HMS Eagle, even HMS Ark Royal, operating Bucs and Phantoms, especially the former. The Argentinians would have gotten absolutely caned. Instead we send Hermes giving her a reprieve and "through deck cruisers" equipped with Harriers. Although they did sterling service, thanks mainly to the crews, it would've been a different scenario altogether.
The problem with the Harrier was their short legs which meant they were only ever able to hit back once the damage had already been done
I think it was a 16 Sqn aircraft. That’s brilliant because 15 and 16 Buccaneer squadrons were based at Laarbruch in ‘81-‘83 when I was there with II(AC) Sqn Jags. Best mate was a sooty on 16! Happy days. Great video.
Brilliant,I was a sooty on 237ocu at Lossie in the late 80s I used to ground run the Bucc brings back great memories
Regards

Private Pilot
Worked on these in the late 70’s, XV squadron RAF Laarbruch in Germany, happy days!!!!
nice camo It's like watching a great white cruising past those toy aeroplanes
Only one is Royal Air Force, the other clearly shows Royal Navy on the tail. Many Years ago I worked on RAF Scampton where several Bucccaneers and Phantoms were being used as test rigs. It was fantastic tosee these planes flown as they should be. Pity these are grounded. Bet she will look perfect with her new paint job. Thanks for sharing keep up the good work.
Many thanks for the kind words! It certainly is a shame they're grounded. I would of loved to see these flying!
Both aircraft are both ex Royal Navy and Royal Air Force. The S2s were retired from RN service (with the scrapping of Ark Royal) about the time the RAF F111 Programme (to replace TSR2) was cancelled, so the aircraft had a second, excellent service life with the RAF. One has been repainted into the RN scheme.
It really wants to fly… what a beauty. When we actually used to design and build aircraft
Very well done all.great to watch and triggers some great memories
the temptation to say stuff it let’s get this beauty into the air mus be hard to resist! It actually looks like it was hewn from a solid block of aluminium!
She needs to fly.
I love the Buccaneer...magical aircraft..
Well Done!!
I love the winter camouflage pain scheme. Was that a Poluce in the background? I drove one of those tractors at Fenton. Recognise the Fire Extinguisher, except ours were green. Great to see a buccaneer being used for taxi runs. I never worked on them but they were definitely my era.
At first i thought it had modern digi cam painted on hahahha
One of our best fighters in it's day.
"bomber"
She’s a low level anti ship attack aircraft that could also be a used for ground attack aircraft.
@@spitfirenutspitfirenut4835 Don't forget that at Laarbruch 15 & 16 Sqdn's were on Nuclear Strike QRA 24/7/365. 🤫
Should still be flying now !saw the Bruntingthorpe ones a few years ago
Great camo better than original.
I remember in about 92 seeing them skimming the sea off Wales.
Will be a powerful swan someday.
I wonder what happened to the static one at the Buccaneer petrol station in Lossiemouth ?
Looks like that one (XW530) ended up moving to The Scottish Deer Centre.
@@chinneylowfly Correct. I pass XW530 regularly sitting all forlorn at The Scottish Deer Centre near Cupar, Fife. Another Bucc that's in desperate nead of a re-paint !
Will she be returning to the sky?
Unfortunately not. Just kept in ground running condition.
When were these last used in anger? Falklands or Persian Gulf?
1991 Gulf, they laser designated for Jaguars or Tornados if I remember correctly? Painted in desert almost orange livery.
Could stand a lick of paint.
All hail the mighty Spey
Looks like XW544 could do with a paint touch-up 😄 Is this Cotswold airport (Kemble)?
Yes this was at Cotswold Airport. XW544 is due to be painted this summer. They are just in the process of sanding her down.
@@chinneylowflyget it also to fly again will he great to
@@aeroplanespotterstv6868 if only! Would be amazing to see a Bucc fly again
Always one of the best display aircraft of its day
Where is this?
Cotswold Airport. The group held an event to celebrate 30 years since the Buccaneer retirement.
I really love the camo on the plane looks like it has been placed in a microwave oven!
🤣
Airshow season or fast taxis only?
Unfortunately fast taxis only.
@@chinneylowfly a shame, would love to see one, low n fast over the sea at Eastbourne Airbourne one year
What a sorry state to see that beautiful aircraft in needs some paint
Hopefully she'll have her fresh coat of paint in the summer.
But it's also great to see that some of her early days red, white & blue roundals, fin flashes & also some squadron markings have survived several repaints over the decades.
What's planned for the re-paint? Or is it Top Secret ?
@@wullie3xv923 Thats a good question! I'm not sure to be honest. I haven't seen anything on their socials as to what it will be re-painted as. Hmmmmm
Hopefully the paint is no reflection of the rest of the aircraft, am sure it isn't.
She's sanded down ready for new paint in the summer 👍
Paintwork looks like it’s been standing outside for 40 years
Beautiful but she does need a facelift on thenpaint hib which I can imagine is not a cheap thing
Poor girl she's want to fly!
Wish they were flight worthy
A bit smokey on full throttle
was expecting a low fly-by :(:(
Aircraft resprays by Stevie Wonder !
Singing "Isn't she lovely" as he goes .... ;-)
Do you ever get annoyed when someone makes disparaging comments when you are halfway through a job?
is that it ? can it fly ?
That thing needs a bag over it.
loach392. Please feel free to donate a year of your salary toward the costs of refurbishment.😃
She’ll be stunning when she gets painted!
So frustrating to abort take off!!!
This old girl is desperately in need of a paint job??
Such ugly jet.
We should really just buy aircraft from people who know what they're doing like the Americans or French. What an embarrassment of a plane, looks like a flying pig!
