    When she placed 4th on "Dancing with the Stars" I felt so badly for her, since she already mentioned all the times in her life she already placed 4th in gymnastics.

    I'm 65. That makes me a senior citizen. At the age of 22, Aly is a senior citizen in the world of gymnastics. Even though it would be unprecedented, I hope she is able to come back in 2020. Her floor routine is even beyond my imagination.

    Whoever selects the 2016 Okympic team, they would be the craziest person on the planet to not have Aly on the team. Her story isn't over yet and she has achieved so much and there would be no one else who could replace her. Love ya Aly!

    • @sunshine11931

      It's going to be Marta Karolyi and she seems to love Aly. If she stayed uninjured and on top of her game, she has a good shot. The only problem is her competition is really stiff. Marta may really like Aly but she's not going to play favorites when it comes to the Olympic team, even if she feels that "Aly's story isn't over."

    • @cu8504
      @cu8504 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +sunshine11931 I'm not saying that's the reason for her to make the Olympic team. She is just as good as the other competition and everyone can see that

      @sunshine11931 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kathryn Nowell Of course she is. But the issue is that there are others that are just as good as she is. It'll be a close call.

      @@sunshine11931 It was in fact not a close call. Aly was a lock by the time the team was selected! Not only that, but she added another 3 medals to her collection!

    • @creating1_c1999
      @creating1_c1999 8 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      She leaves with 3 medals: 1 gold, 2 silver. At 22, that is far better than 2012, where she did not medal at all in the all-around, so I am quite proud of her. More proud because of her maturity, leadership, and the ability to do her best and not worry about trying to beat someone. She's a winner because she focuses on doing her best, not souring and sullying the event because she cannot out score Biles. She did not just return, she is an even better competitor than four years ago. And yes. She made history because she is the oldest U.S. women's gymnast with a gold.

    Love Aly so much! I never doubted her ability to make the team, but she exceeded my expectations by earning that second AA spot. I'm so happy that she plans to continue. She really did get better the second time around. Confidence is so important in gymnastics, so I think she can get even better (especially since Brestyan's is FINALLY getting a bars coach).

    It was so fun to watch her win Silver in the all around last night. Probably the best ever. She's a true American hero. The underdog - Simone Biles is awesome, do not get me wrong - but she was a shoe in for Gold. Everyone KNEW she was getting gold. Aly? So many questioned her. So many doubted. Just watch her final event on the Floor Exercise. It'll move you. I hope she moves into acting, or another sport because I really don't want to give up watching such a talented person.

    Her parents are hilarious. They get so stressed out. I thought her floor routine was as good or better than Simone Biles. She easily could have (and maybe should have) won the Gold.

    • @perfectly_cromulent
      @perfectly_cromulent 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Aly's great, but Simone is in another league. Aly actually likened Simone to Usain Bolt--when competing with either, you just can't expect to win gold.

    • @DobieDoxie
      @DobieDoxie 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Nerdy Gymnast Wrong. Simone is better at one thing. Vault. They push on bars, Aly is better on the beam and floor. Biles is unsteady on most moves on the floor while Aly is rock solid.
      Don't by the hype on Biles. Use your eyes, check the deductions and realize she isn't that great.

    • @perfectly_cromulent
      @perfectly_cromulent 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      DobieDoxie I have used my eyes. I've watched Simone over the past 3 years. Simone is clearly better than Aly on all four events. Simone incurs fewer deductions than Aly on all four events and she drills her landings on floor. (Believe it or not, Aly is my favorite gymnast, but this does not mean that I can't acknowledge that Simone is better than her.)

    • @DobieDoxie
      @DobieDoxie 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Nerdy Gymnast explain this one to me then.
      During the AA, on the beam Biles' foot came off to steady herself. She was a bit unsteady at other points. She got 1.0ish deductions. Mustafina had a terrible beam just flat out bad. Missed connections, slow, etc. She got 1.4 in deductions. Aly had a spot on routine, no obvious errors and was lauded by the announcers. She ends up with 1.3 in deductions, .3 more than Biles and .1 less than that terrible Mustafina performances.
      Explain that? I won't even get into the floor which was equal in difficulty and execution yet Biles scores way higher. Raisman's opening tumble pass is enough to get her gold every time out, unless Biles is on the floor, who starts with a .5 edge everytime.
      She gets her water carried left and right. Also, her bronze today should end the discussion of her being the greatest.

    • @perfectly_cromulent
      @perfectly_cromulent 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      DobieDoxie That balance check in Simone's routine really wasn't that big of a deal. Simone only had a minor balance check in addition to that. Aly also had one minor balance check. In addition to that, Aly had a sizable hop on the dismount. Additionally, Aly's form is worse than Simone's--that's where the "extra" deductions come from.
      As for Aliya, I honestly thought she was overscored in the All Around and would have preferred Shang Chunsong to take the bronze. That said, Aliya does have great form, so most of her significant deductions will come from balance checks, as with Simone.
      As for floor, they do not have equal difficulty. Simone's floor has a difficulty score of 6.9 and Aly's has a difficulty score of 6.6. Aly's execution score will generally be worse than Simone's because of the same form issues to which I alluded. Simone simply has better form than Aly. They both typically have solid routines and drill their landings so the disparity in the execution scores can be attributed to Aly's form.
      And no, the bronze on beam does not suddenly make Simone not great. Being the first woman to get 3 world all around golds and an Olympic all around gold and the first woman to get 10 world gold medals makes her one of the greatest of all time.

    • @julietrowe7763
      @julietrowe7763 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      22 is old for gymnasts. Because gymnastics is such a tough sport, it really wears down on your body and many gymnasts retire at a very young age.

    • @sparklemotion1018
      @sparklemotion1018 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They retire for many reasons, but most gymnasts today peak as teens. It's easier, if you've got the right body type, to compete when you're small and strong, and most people get bigger with age. The minimum is 16, but it was just 14 until 1997. Smaller girls fly higher - that's why the Chinese put girls under 16 on their team and lied about their age (they were stripped of their medal from the 2000 Olympics because of this - it's cheating)
      These women train so hard that it suppresses their growth. Simone is 19 years old 4'8" tall (some say 4'9") and solid muscle. When Simone retires someday, I expect her to shoot up a few inches, and get a whole new set of curves - the kind that throw off the center of gravity on the beam.
      Simone won't care because she'll be done competing and she'll be able to enjoy her success without pressure.

      It's like Aly said in other interviews: coming in second when Simone Biles is competing is as good as a gold, because it's the most Aly could have hoped for.
      Simone is the most talented natural gymnast in recorded (gymnastic) history and she works her little butt off, too. When you look at what Simone overcame (no biological dad around, CPS declaring her mother unfit, and being legally adopted by her grandparents - wonderful, loving grandparents but it's a lot of chaos for a kid) and compare it to Aly's stable, upper-middle class childhood, it's even more amazing that Simone performs at this level, blowing past all the other gymnasts like it's just another daily practice.
      I'm thrilled for Simone, and I'm extremely happy for Aly, with her All-Around Silver and second Team Gold.

    • @creating1_c1999

    really hope she makes it, I mean she's obviously better and more experienced than many other younger national team members
    we'll see how it goes, I can't imagine the olympic team without her in it, it feels like she's not done yet

      As in she hasn't done an Olympics yet? She had a great Olympics. She had the most medals on her team and was the first woman to win Olympic gold on floor exercise. I'd like to see her in another Olympics as well but I think the competition is too stiff. Not saying she won't make it, but it will definitely be hard.

    She's an inspiration and a hero. The tragic thing is that so many adults failed her because they covered up what that damned monster did to her.
