For me, having grown up in America, Korea definitely makes me feel just at home. It leaves me with a good feeling even after I leave. I can't wait to head back next year of things calm down enough with covid where it's safer to travel. I'll wear a mask my whole trip if I have too.
I wasnt aware of how much I miss the subway fanfare and jingles... hearing those sounds brings me to tears, I had a very good time for the 4 month that were an exchange semester in Seoul. Its been 3 years now.

Brilliant idea. Sounds and announcements are always overwhelming in a new country. Hearing them before you travel is very useful. Also seeing the layout of the station and the signs is a great help to understanding.
film42tv I agree. As the announcements are too fast and the vocabulary are too advanced for me, at least now if I sort of hear them I can try to pick out the important words.
@@CyberMew I'm still pretty new to it, but i'm finding that words are gradually starting to pop out. Listening constantly really helps me. I followed the videos with Hyunwoo explaining how the sentences work and it's like a window opens and it makes much more sense... Still realllllly difficult for an older Englishman though!
This was my life 3 years ago when I lived in Seoul. When I hear these sounds, I can feel the summer heat, smell the freshly baked pastries and hear the footsteps of thousands of hard-working men and women echoing in the subway hallways. I'm sure that at times, I hated it: I grew up in a small town, I was not familiar of subway and had never been around so many people in such cramped environment. But as time went on, I learnt to appreciate how well everything functioned. Something that had been overwhelming to me at first gradually became a natural part of me and my daily life in Seoul, and I cannot help but feel nostalgic about it.
One funny story. One quiet day I was waiting for a train at the subway station, and there was this older Korean lady who was clearly curious about me, a Westerner in Korea. I think we were the only ones sitting there at the time. She couldn't speak English, but we tried to communicate with each other. I think I was able to tell her some basic things like where I was from and she seemed delighted. When the train finally arrived, she reached to her pocket and pulled out hard candy. She offered me some and I gladly acccepted her luxurious offering. When I stood up and began walking towards the opened train door, to my surprise, she remained seated at the station and would not board the train. We waved to each other through the closed train doors, as in a romantic movie. She was gone forever, but her candy tasted excellent.

Ohhh, that sound ... I literally burst into tears when I heard it ... After my trip to South Korea, everyone jokes with me - "How did you manage to fall in love not with a man, but in a country!" :) And it really is so ... there is no creature on this planet (except my dog) that evokes such emotions in me! Maybe one day when I have a child ... but until then "Korea, you are my great love!" ;)
I was in South Korea from 2013-2017 as an ESL Teacher. I can’t even begin to explain the nostalgia I feel hearing these sounds and instantly being reminded of my drunken 5AM Seoul subway rides home on the weekend.

God the nostalgia. I’ve been to South Korea 8 times and I ride these at least a few times per trip. Hearing these makes me feel kinda nice in a way.

Wow. Makes me miss riding the subway in Korea. I have been the 3 times over the past few years. First time for 2 weeks in 2017. For 3 months in 2018. And for 9 and a half months in 2019... I always rode the subway to have lunch with my Korean husband who works in Seoul. Every time I did that I would stay at a coffee shop with the free wifi and Skype my family in America. Our first child will be born this year at the end of May/beginning of June. ❤

I'm a Korean adoptee living in Sweden, I'm also a public transport neard. I went back to Korea for the first time since coming to Sweden in 2018 and I used the subway a lot. I came to Sweden late in 89. Hearing all these sounds makes me miss my old home country. 😥
since i was a baby, my parents and i always went to korea in the summerholidays to my grandparents. but then i had a fight with my grandpa in 4th grade and we never went to korea again...😭😭😭 but my mom says we are going there next year when i get vaccined! 🤩

I was so impressed with the city and its public transportation that I went back to University to study Urban Planning after living in Seoul. The nostalgia these sounds stir up is indescribable. I just remember riding the subway everywhere and being so fascinated on how well run, clean, and timely it was.
I didn’t know I missed the subway sounds in Seoul so much. Hearing them again after more than a year brought me goosebumps and nearly tears…

When me and my friends went to visit Seoul, we always repeatedly uttered “출입문 닫습니다” in the same exact tone. Aghhhhh this video makes me miss the place so muuuuch!! 서울을 다시 보고싶어! 🥺

Can you do more things like this? I really miss Korea and this was so satisfying to hear. I would even love a super long unedited version that sounds like what you'd hear waiting for the subway, on the subway, and leaving the subway but uncut. It would sound even more realistic! I appreciate this video!

Great video but I would remove that background music so that we just hear the sounds as naturally as possible.
I've been to Korea 4 times as a tourist and been living in Busan for past 1.5 years
But every time I hear those Seoul subway jingles they bring me back to my very first trip to Korea in 2016 :)

I didn’t live in Seoul, but this brings back so many memories and crazy nostalgia for me. I lived in 평택시 and 화성시 as a high school exchange student. Id trade anything to be there again to see my friends and host family. I miss it very much there.

Oh God....dear ttmik, this made me so emotional. Like, these were literally my used to daily life view. Those scenery of hangang before get off at 합정역 and another one before 동작역 have always been my favorite :( I had a wonderful two years of doing my graduate study in SNU. I missed seoul even more now !
