Great report! I loved seeing you guys explain that not all harvest is bad. The key is harvesting the abundant size fish and letting the rare (i.e. large) ones go to reproduce and be caught again. I'd like to see future videos on Virginia's rocky rivers like the upper James, Shenandoah, New, etc. Highlighting the less frequently sought species, like catfish, esox, carp, etc., would be great too. And please don't stop updating the biologist reports on your website. They are invaluable!
Thanks for highlighting a diverse range of impoundments and lakes and letting us know the fishing characteristics of them. It really helps for those with little, and even those with a lot of experience!
What is funny is I fish this lake a lot and I noticed that you guys did some more hinge cutting in that NE cove just before the dam! I am just now seeing this video. Good stuff.
I know this is an older video, but I'm hoping someone will answer this question. I absolutely love night fishing in the summer. Can I fish Amelia Lake at night? I'm always fully aware and mindful of everything I do, and care for the environment. I just like beating the heat, and also the larger bass tend to feed more at night. I've googled the crap out of Amelia Lake trying to find this answer, but the DWR site doesn't give any indication of times whatsoever
They play this lake down in the video, but a game warden told me in the spring that there had been 2 double digit weight bass caught this year, and that he'd heard talk that DWR said a state record could come out of Amelia. Not sure if I believe that, but I have caught a 20" and a 22" out of it. If you like carp fishing, there are plenty of 20 lb+ of them in the shallow end, easy to sight fish.
Because there are so many tiny bass, there ARE going to be some GIANTS because they get plenty to eat. But I fish this lake a lot and they are right that most of the fish caught are very small. My friends dad did catch a 9lb fish there this summer. I also did see a really big one near the boat ramp when I was eating lunch, so they are in there just very very small %

Excellent videos! Appreciate the information and stewardship.
thanks for the video reports. We'd love to see one on fishing for Esox in the commonwealth!

Well done. Thanks for the video. Which VA lakes do you recommend for trophy quality largemouth bass?

Why was the aluminum dock torn out??
A storm damaged it.
Can you let me in on the depths of this lake.
