      There was a trend for Japanese versions to have exclusive content, as the Jp distributors wanted to avoid their domestic market being overrun with European/US imports.

    just me or is there a similarity to keyboard compositions here and the 1st track, Cipater, from the 1997 Chiastic Slide album.

      +Neil Hynes Yes, exactly, in the synths used, the approach to melody, and the interaction between the melody and the repeating surface textural sounds. This song is more Chiastic Slide than Tri Repetae.

      Totally. Flat e minor Asia sounding feel similar note cords. The slide album has a distinct scratchy washboard sound infused throughout the album

    Thanks for posting this. Listening to Tri Repetae on repeat for about 2 years was one of maybe a handful of true musical revelations I've had in my life. This joint just completed that journey.

    I instantly think of Metroid, the Alien movie, and vintage 3D computer graphics. Such evocative sounds these 90s UK electronic groups have created.

      Funny enough, Autechre helped with Metroid Prime 1's soundtrack.

    • @DSoverPSP
      @DSoverPSP 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@purplesamurai5205 Not really. Retro Studios originally requested wanted to have them do the soundtrack (hence why Sean and Rob get a special thanks in the credits) but Nintendo said no, and brought in Kenji Yamamoto the composer of Super Metroid instead. But maybe he brought in some Autechre influence along the way since you can still hear some resemblance. Probably still my favorite game soundtrack regardless

    • @purplesamurai5205

      @@DSoverPSP In the special thanks section of the original American release, Autechre is thanked. So my claim wasn't wrong. Autechre helped with the soundtrack. Also, I thought I heard that they helped a bit with SFX.

    • @DSoverPSP
      @DSoverPSP 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@purplesamurai5205It would be super cool if they did actually help out with the soundtrack but the fact is Nintendo never hired or contracted them, they hired Kenji Yamamoto after declining the Retro's sound team's request to bring in Autechre. Their place in the special thanks is more of a courtesy what-could-have-been thing, otherwise they would've been credited under music/sound design.
      For sound FX there was some initial work from Tommy Tallarico's studios (really it was the guy under Tommy doing the work, I hate that I forgot his name because it turns out Tommy's an asshole who likes to steal credit from people). Some beam weapon sounds and stuff. But the bulk of the sound design was by Clark Wen. There's a really good interview with Clark over on the Kiwi Talkz channel where he talks about the Autechre thing in some more detail too.
      Fingers crossed for Prime 4 tho!

    • @DSoverPSP
      @DSoverPSP 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@purplesamurai5205 Double checked both the Clark Wen interview and Sean's Twitch AMA where he discussed it from his end. Basically Retro initially reached out to them to discuss making the soundtrack, so Autechre came down to meet with them in Austin and both parties were really excited about it. But then Nintendo said no for whatever reason, brought in their own in-house composer Kenji Yamamoto instead and that was that on Autechre's end. Kenji's initial direction for the soundtrack was a lot more guitar based ("like Steve Vai meets Sun Ra" according to Wen), which didn't match the tone Retro was looking for, so they sent him some of Autechre's music to use as a guiding example, and then we ended up with the final soundtrack from Kenji that we hear in the game. Retro apparently also used some of their music as a placeholder when they were testing demo levels. So Sean and Rob got a special thanks in the credits, for their initial talks and big influence (but *not* direct involvement) on the soundtrack. Hope that makes sense

      So tired of people making this joke about ae. It's not funny, its just crass and immature ad nauseam. I'm not some kind of pretentious elitist with a stick up my ass, either, I just think the joke is unfunny and I don't like music I enjoy to be associated with an unpleasant bodily function.
