Could be in exhaust valve issue clearances run pretty tight on these engines and they hold the valves open so you might be losing compression on the exhaust valve I recommend.010-.012 clearance
Went to a yard sale yesterday, Man had three riders, one snapper b/s 18 horsepower for 200.00 & husky b/s 24, 42 in, rotten deck 150.00, the other one was off brand can't remember b/s single cylinder . Would these mover be worth the time to fix and repair to sell.
I love Briggs flat heads, and the opposed twin is such a cool engine. I just picked up a '93 GT6000 with one.

One of the best tractors I ever had, at the time I dint realize what I had if so would've held on to that one. It also had the wide fat rear tires.
i like the kohler opposed twin a lot better,it even sounds better

Can’t wait to get my first apposed twin! I’ve got one coming next week on an late 80s tractor and just love how they sound.

I just can't understand why anybody would want to work on such a filthy engine. geeze, at the least grab the air hose and blow it off.

Check ebay I found 2 20 hp I'm going to buy one if you get their quick enough you could buy the other for 450 bucks
