I'm a native Yuman, born and raised back in the late 60s. There was an unrelated (to the prison) story about a steamboat captain that while on the Colorado river during an earthquake (we have numerous quakes and big ones such as the one centered 62 miles into Mexico registered as a 7.2 Easter day back in 2010) and he talked about steam rising from the river itself during the quake. I can't remember where I read it, I think it might have been a storyboard there at the prison some years ago. Great vid of our prison!
As a Yuma native I have been to that prison a few times growing up. Loved doing the tour. Funny that you mentioned the rc track down there. If I remember correctly not far from there was would have been the cemetery for the prison.
Ft. Madison, Iowa has one of those bridges on the Mississippi R. and is still used today. there is a live camera feed to watch the train and watch the bridge when it needs to let boats through.
