Hoke county smfh wow did time there looking at your video thinking about how my young self thought every thing was ok.... Nope it wasn't...... Wise up young men and young ladies who see this........
@@amazingthingsfromaroundthe2057 90s when I was visiting that place lol been to Sandhills as well McCain hospital d.o c. Down the street
There were 40 😊of us hand cuffed 2 the back of the bus.never knew life could b xo Ruff.
I done time in an nc prison it took me back 15 years that's for sure. Definitely learned my lesson.
I did about a month here between Polk youth spread and Mountain View when I switched from youth to adult spread. Shitty place frfr.
That place was a shit hole. It was a green clothes camp when it closed
That was the first prison I worked at! Pretty wild to see it like that! I was the last guard on duty in the guard tower at the front of the prison when they went to minimum security, I brought the rifle and shot gun out of that tower and it wasn't used anymore after that. We were in those towers for 6 hrs at a time
.12 hr shifts and would rotate between 2 post. The white clothes were for inmates with kitchen or laundry duty. The green clothes were because the prison downgraded to minimum security before it closed down. It was a medium security for most of the time it was in operation. They should have toured MCcain Correctional Hospital that is about 200 yards behind that one also. It was originally a Teburculosis Hospital that was converted to a minimum security prison hospital before it shut down. I worked there too!
Thnx for your first hand account after working there! Must feel even more creepy for you since you had a personal attachment!!
🖕🏾 just because you was a C.O 😂
Awesome thank you
Crazyy how things could change so much if left abandoned.
I used to work there too. Left in 2009 to go to Kuwait.
abandoned schools and abandoned prisons just have such an eerie vibe to them walking around knowing how filled those halls were at one point.
Seeing the shower rooms in particular freaks me out. Lord only knows what went on in there.
Go explore an abandoned factory or textile mill, they are all over the place In the US. Some of the largest and creepiest buildings imagineable with all sorts of pipes and machinery like out of a movie
I live 3 miles from here! Drive past it everyday. I remember the inmates playing ball outside. Love the video. The grass was cut recently for a movie staring Channing Tatum called “Roofman”.
Nice I live in hope mills
Ok so where's prison located
@@donyemonroe4577McCain prison about 5 miles from Aberdeen North Carolina on highway 211

Yup I live 3 miles from here also down poole rd! Was snooping around when they were making the movie
This video brought back a lot of memories for me when I worked as a guard in the North Carolina prison system. I wasn't at this prison though. This looks like a more maximum security prison than what I worked at. The place in the video at around 11:14 looked more where prisoners were checked into the prison. Where I worked we called it the Diagnostics Dept. It was where prisoners were examined and asked health questions and given their prison clothes before being assigned their bunks. Most of the prisoners were respectful toward you and your authority as long as you respected them. When I seen the Concession Stores, it reminded me of a weird rule NC prisons had, if i remember correctly, prisoners couldn't have over 5 dollars on them and they weren't allowed to possess a "5 dollar bill", if caught with either it could increase their sentence which was up to the Lt on duty and/or the Warden. Thanks for the memories, I hope those prisoners that earned their GED in 2018 on that billboard at 10:20 and all that was housed there made something of themselves and today are successful.
My father retired from Scotland Correctional/Wagram NC in 1995 he started in Robeson County minimum security in 1971.When I was a teenager and was starting to run wild he loaded me up one day and I didn’t know where we were going until he pulled up to the gates in Wagram. He took me up on one of the guard towers and told me to look across the yard, I made my mind up at that moment to try my best to not end up inside those fences.
@@Mobilehomeman1972 was a good example for your dad to do at that time when you were impressionable!!
No cash at all now it's on a card
Watching this show just gave me a thought for the homeless in America.
Why couldn’t these places be renovated for America’s homeless?
Prisons have bathrooms, showers, common areas, and kitchens .
They could be renovated and become a temporary home .
They also have offices and these could be renovated so that they could help rehabilitate the homeless and help them get jobs .
They have dorms for sleeping. Half of the buildings could be for women and children or even families.
Our homeless in America needs safe places to stay .
because the people with money to fund that dont want to fund the homeless
@@Hackjob101 why is it the taxpayers responsibility to pay for people too lazy to like a finger for themselves? If they put them in there they should turn it back into a prison. If you want out, get a job and a place to live.
Great idea
Why not renovate/update the facility and use it as a PRISON. Judges keep letting people off with warnings, community service or fines because the prisons are full.
@@ozymandias7940 they built a new one. It doesn't make sense to dump tons of money into an outdated and undersized facility.
Hoke County, I served 4 years there. White uniforms was for kitchen workers and paint crew. Glad to see it closed
ive worked in a prison for 15 years it doesnt matter if its abandon or occupied its still creepy and weird. our facility is newer built in mid 2000 but its but on the property of an old insane asylum and lets just say i never believe in ghost until i started seeing weird stuff at nights
The Demonic & Evil goes hand and hand
EEK!! 😮
Man!! I worked there from 1998-2017 as a correctional officer..bought back so many memories
So you too had a personal account of your many years there!!
This isn't Scotland County, the Wagram location
That’s the prison on 211
@@sylviacrumpler oo ok thanks
Man the videos keep getting better and better
I drive by this prison a lot. I remember seeing prisoners out in the Yard. Then one day nobody was there. I wondered where they all went to.
That's the first Prison I worked in. Old HCI 4320. In 1995 it housed in processing in South Unit. Food service workers, Laundry workers in E Block. Seg in F Block and PC in D Block. Upstairs in G,Hand I was correctional mental health where I worked most of my career there. It's amazing how the state just let it go like that.
I use to live near this prison, as in a mile away. They would have prison breaks every now and then. The dogs and a helicopter would be out looking for fugitives. I’d drive by and see the prisoners outside playing. This was shutdown a few years ago, a lot of prisons around here were. There is an abandoned insane asylum next door to this prison and it’s been abandoned I think about 30 years. It’s pretty creepy at night….. Also Hollywood was just out here a few weeks ago filming a movie with Channing Tatum for a new movie called Roofman for the prison scenes.
Closed down in 2022.
It'll be so badass one day once they close down Caledonia exploring will be awesome that's a big ass work farm
They get too many peas from masters garden to ever shut that one down.
Right that's the cannery it ant going no where real shit hole i did year one hot ass place in summer time I use catch writes ups just go Seg get in the Ac smh
I was at the green clothes camp up the street in Tillery. I worked in the Boiler room at Caledonia. 99-2000
Just one of several my father was in.. Almost 25 years of his life behind these walls. He got transferred to Raleigh Central at the end of his life for medical care. He died there 😔. Was a terrible place to die
My did James Campbell did time and in Raleigh central prison
I live like 5 minutes from this place. It’s been shut down since Covid. Prior to that you’d see them outside playing basketball and such. Old McCain prison
This is Hoke County Correctional Facility near Raeford, NC, west of Fayetteville. Opened in 1954, closed in 2022. Many units have been closed due to staffing shortages, not sure if this facility closed because of that. The white pants seen early in the video look like what an inmate cook would wear, it most definitely is not part of an Officer's uniform. I do not know what custody level this unit was, but most prisons that house felons have multiple levels of security within their housing areas. The double fence with razor wire and the guard towers suggest to me it was a medium security facility at least for a while. There are dormitory-style rooms that house the least dangerous inmates or lowest security level, and then there are cells that may house one or two inmates.. There are also single cell lockups for either administrative segregation or punitive segregation and this unit seems to have them all. This facility could be considered pretty typical of medium-size prisons operated during it's time. I have to say, there were some pretty lame comments made by the guys wandering through this place.
I was a NC Correctional Officer from 1978 to 1983. Most of that time I was at Western Correctional Center, a youth facility of a unique high-rise design that was 16 floors high and housed as many as 750 inmates. WCC opened in 1975 and closed in the mid 2000's and was torn down around 2014.
I stay 6 minutes from Raeford
White for kitchen staff or inmates going to court.
Comment section has every guard that ever worked here 😂
I swear all of a sudden all they ass worked there
New here, came up on TH-cam recommended! Awesome video guys new sub here 🙏 I wish we had locations like this is the UK!
I did time is the 90s in jails and prisons in North Carolina. I’m an old man now and a good boy but this place looks rough as a Cobb
Free4all , good stuff, happy Urbexing!
Not long ago they had to recue some folks from there. They were able to contact some friends, but to no avail. So, they had to call for assistance. There was a video that has now been taken down. Last I heard they had been charged with a couple of different offenses.
When I checked it out I made sure to leave something to hold each door open that I went inside
I see this place daily. I can't believe you could walk around in there like that. It's right across from a NCDPS office too.
I was thinking that too and cars riding by was probably a weekend DOT off
Traspassing on state property technically
But I'ma go check it out too smoke me big ass blunt in process
@@AnthonySmith-d5lbroooo it’s so worth it
Awesome video I enjoy it so much
In 2000, I was sent to Hoke from the Pumpkin Patch. At that time, Hoke was Medium custody and a holdover camp for inmates to get assigned to a more permanent camp. Left Hoke County, went to Avery Mitchell as it was just opening up. I spent 30 days in the hole at Hoke because I was accused of trying to build a weapon. When I was there, I believe it was the North Yard that was in holdover status. We stayed in dorm type rooms with round 16 people per room with 1 TV per room. They also had a pool table. Foosball Table and Pingpong table in the rec room.
Bro tweakin touchin stuff w no gloves 😂
Lots of old prisons in nc
This could shelter the homeless
Our State legislature would rather it rot into the ground before they would ever allocate money to help anyone. Yet they are wanting to put a tax cut through for the ones making over $250,000 per year and then turn around and say we can't afford anything. lol
It’s in the middle of nowhere. What’s your plan, round them up in every city with a bus and transport them there? Then what? You’re pretty turning it back into a prison. You got to run it, pay for it, feed them, medical care, etc. The ability to get them back into society would never happen. Same problems we have now.
Unless it’s full of asbestos and lead paint
Best comment ever!
@@gradylucas8068 So who is going to run and pay for this homeless shelter?. Who is going to get buses and go around every city and pick them up? Who is going to feed them, provide medical care, refurbish and restore the prison to sanitary living conditions. Where are all the employees coming from to run it. Sounds like it’s a prison again just housed with homeless instead of criminals. When the homeless want to leave who is going to provide and pay for the transportation? You might have a good for all the states for the homeless epidemic in the US, former prisons in the middle of nowhere now turned into a homeless city paid for with millions of dollars the higher taxes you get to pay.
Hauled many loads through there. Just a chicken plant and a prison. Time still stands still in 2025
Imagine the money in stainless steel sitting in that place IN EVERY ROOM 😮😮
Those damn kids you go out of town for just one weekend, and this is what you come home to !
Never been in there, only drove past it transporting inmates to McCain Prison Hospital. This is how the state operates, instead of taking an inmate to our local hospital for a simple Xray, they'd put an officer in a car and have him drive 3 hours one way.
They use carry me all way from Blanch YI to CP Raleigh use love the ride I use put in sickcall for dentist cost me 5 bucks to take the ride lol
Thought it was blanch for a min smdh@@AnthonySmith-d5l
Wow this place is awesome thanks for sharing.
This Prison is apart of my families history on the both sides, my Grandfather retired as a Guard at this Prison and my aunt his daughter retired as a Nurse at this Prison, they would make for a great interview as they love talking about their experiences working their
And what about you? Former resident at the facility? 🤭🤭
At 17:52 The “336 Tre 4” means he was from Winston Salem NC
lol that’s my name
The hole (seg) was on C side yard they put holes in windows to retrieve tobacco ,k2, money or phones from other inmates on the yard!! They would rip sheets and lower down to pick up contraband!!!
The white clothes on the floor were most likely the inmate kitchen workers. I worked at Southern Correctional in the early 00s.
Yes and the inmates who were barbers.
Canteen workers too wore whites
Troy NC? I was one of the last prisoners in the Faulkland unit with it was 18-21 yrs old at Southern. 93-95
@@The_Camping_Potato yes sir, I actually started the week they were moving the youth out. I worked there for about 8 years.
We spoke to a couple of people they said that there was a movie shot there called rooftop that’s why it’s So clean outside, and the grass is mowed
There’s an abandoned prison work farm in Tyrrell county that reminds me of this.
Be careful entering or walking around these places. Floors collapse and doors can lock behind you. Make sure your phone is charged in case you get trapped. We had a kid get paralyzed in a fall doing something like this. You also can be subject to trespassing laws.
Oh dont worry theyll find a use for it trust
I pass by here from Fayetteville to Aberdeen, always wondered what it looked like in there.
I worked with NC DOC for thirty years making retirement. I used to transport inmates to different prisons and county jails all over the state. Iv been to this prison numerous times. That inside guard tower is the control room for that block of cells.
Sorry guys, left my house a mess. Let me know if you’re coming back next time and I’ll clean up.
Huh

I’m 2 hours away I live in charlotte and nc is always gave me a really wired but nice wanting to explore it feelings I love nc I just hope it doesn’t end up like some other states I was born in nc so I hope to die in nc
They're replacing all of those prison's with institutions that house close, medium and Honor grade (green clothes)!!! So that the only time transfer is necessary is school, medical or shipping you close to home as your release date approaches...
There is an abandoned facility on Big Hole Road in Pittsboro, NC. It was an AUTOVON facility. No one knows much about it. I have been around the outside, but never have I seen a video or photos of the inside. You should check it out.
The communications bunker?
i’ve been here too it’s cool but there’s no way on getting in
I live very close to it would love it… there are also trails in the woods that surround it
I was here in 2015. It was really a medical medium custody camp by then I left from doing felony time on close custody to misdemeanor time so I was switched to Hoke Correctional Institution. Good ol Raeford county. You could hear the rocket detonations in fort Bragg during training exercises. It was laid back at Hoke when i was there. They had HUGE spiders in the cells though.
Odom prison in Jackson in Halifax county is just sitting empty now for years was a very old prison in nc
Really they shut down Odom that's wild right across the river from Caledonia and tillery
Yes been closed for a few years now
Yes go explore this one guys u won't be disappointed
I went there recently, they didn't leave much stuff behind like in the one in this video. Still a really neat place
Jackson is Northampton county but I'm with you
Any library is a god send
would make a real nice place to convert to military vet living and home less familys..a town in a city.
It should be used for something, there's alot of scrap you could sell
You should check out the old buncombe county prison on Riverside Dr NC in a little city called Woodfin but watch for the police seriously‼️been closed for at least 30 or more years💯
They should donate those stainless benches to city parks...
those 2 dot screws are a type of security screws. Required a specific security bit to remove.
And another thing you’re not gonna climb over that fence without getting shocked cause there’s a sign that tells you on the inside stay 10 feet from fence. It has a cable running through it and it sends off an alarm if anything touches it I used to sit and throw rocks just to watch the trucks fly to where that spot was at. It was so fucking hilarious dude.
Worked there..Old McCain..Hospital on the other side...smh for the Souls that died in the Hospital side..AIDS Epidemic was there at one time..I live about a County over..Cumberland County Fayetteville NC..When I first separated from the military I went to FSU For a BS in Psychology..did an internship there holding groups. NA AA Type things..hard to watch this.. Be Blessed
I drove passed about 3 months ago and it looked like there were a lot of cars and trucks parked there. Maybe they are planning on reopening it?
There is the solution for the homeless in North Carolina. Do some detailing on the prison compound get running water and electric. The homeless would have a place to live. Plenty of rooms. Gathering areas, just replace the cell doors with regular doors. Very affordable for the state rather than to build shelters
I've said that myself.
Sounds great. But you know the government. That will never happen..
I don’t think you understand that some of these people will never want a “home”. The homeless epidemic is the product of Regan shutting down all of the govt run mental health facilities in the 80’s combined with big pharma flooding the market with opioids for decades. What do you think the homeless are going to do in Hoke County? There’s nothing there. The two counties that border it to the south and east (Robeson and Scotland) are the poorest counties in the state. I grew up in the area but I’ve been in Buncombe Co for more than 20 years and the homeless problem here is worse than anywhere in the state per capita. Several old hotels here have been purchased by the city and state using federal grant money to try and transform them into shelters and inevitably they end up shutting them down because they become uninhabitable due to the fact that they become places where fentanyl overdoses and human trafficking were the norm. Do you think all of the homeless people are going to be jazzed up when they load them all up on buses to deliver them to what is obviously a prison? I wish there was simple solution but honestly most of these people are there because their families couldn’t help them almost certainly due to poverty. The wealthy are capable of ending poverty, but then they wouldn’t have the poor people to demonize about how they’re sucking up all the resources while they de facto write their own sweetheart legislative measures to ensure they widen that ever increasing gap in the wealth divide.
I totally agree in Asheville the homeless problem is crazy
If they’re drug free sure
There is in Blanch community, Yanceyville NC. It is a dive site now. In its day prisoners mined slate. The quarry filled up. Later they made license plates. I scuba dive the old mine. Some of the equipment is still in the bottom.

See they could repurpose this prison into a homeless shelter or a half way house to reintegrate people that's getting out of prison but but our justice isn't about reforming inmates it's all about money and it's sad That's why I recidivism rate is so high here in the United States because when prisoners get out they ain't got the tools to do better
The Dorm rooms were for those in holdover waiting to get a bed assigned at another prison when I was there.
Love it!
Appreciate you watching!
Is this right outside Fayetteville?
I've been there a couple of times. Spent the night once. There was a few negative spirits there.

Made the trip today, explored the Sanitarium along with this Location.
Anyone thinking of making the trip be aware they have reported high amounts of asbestos in both places. Recently this facility was used for LEO training and multiple officers ending up getting sick shortly after said training so BE AWARE.
Also heard it was high amounts of dried 2 ball compound all over the place.
Go to the Abandon prison in Scotland County NC
Wagram?
I’m wondering exactly why it was abandoned with the increase in crimes n criminals!?!?😮
And the tax payers will foot the bill for a new one. Makes no sense!
Short staffed, they said it was over packed and not enough workers
Imagine being by yourself no phone, and you go into a cell and the door locked behind you.
Worst nightmare
I did time here and the floors heat up to keep the building warm
Only the government would waste this kind of money. All that steel could be recycled and sold.
I drove right by it not long ago was doing construction in the area.
These scenes are creepy!!😮
Very cool 👍🏼
Nice .. I've worked in NC prisons too.. all the same really .. good video brothers
The 2 dot screws was produced at Shaw Perkins West Pittsburgh Pennsylvania They made baseboard heating and guards for covers I worked there

Isn’t there a juvenile prison like across the street from this one? Or is that the hospital? I know they are both abandoned.
I did time there...glad it's shut down
With all the homeless people in this country to bad they couldn’t use these abandoned prisons for homeless centers.
I shot some additional footage for a film called "Breakwater" at this prison a few years ago.
Make a great movie set or an awesome flea market no doubt.
Channing Tatum just filmed part of a movie there last month. It’s called “Roofman”. Scheduled to be released in 2025
Thnx for the creepy tour!!
Should visit the one between Fayetteville and Pine Hurst
That is the one between pinehurst and Fayetteville
@rippinlipsoutdoors3912 cool
This is it.
Okay so there's green uniforms too so the white means kitchen workers
Was it closed because of asbestos?
Most likely seeing as these prisons and jails been around since the mid 1900's
I thought it looked familiar, I ride by there on a regular basis.
The cell with bars and clear plexiglass is the medical area when inmates would flip out or if the guards thought that a inmate was going to commit suicid they would put them in the fish bowl that’s what we called it in WV they take your clothes sheets blankets anything that they think you might hurt your self with you get a paper gown for your clothes
Yup. Turtle suit
Wow that's the old Scotland prison just right off the highway
The food always depends cookers within prisons
Looks familiar to this old school convict.God bless all my fellow convicts who have overcome the so called System! 🙏✌️👿
Live right down the road from there
The pictures are glued up with toothpaste and the white uniforms are for kitchen staff. Green was for minimum custody inmates that may be abandoned but it’s still state prop and they are definitely trespassing
I live near here. Good to see the inside. Thanks!
Me too about 5 miles away
Is this the prison in Hoke Co? I think it is.
Same within 15 miles
Why throw papers in the floor just to trash the place. Exploring isn’t destroying
I thought the same thing. SMDH!!!! Put back like you got it, and keep the scene originally like it was when it was abandoned.
Thought i saw rick and daryl run by
Did time there n 97 b4 feds came & picked me up. It was a processing spot back then. I was n an 8 to 10 man room. It was across street from Sandhills youth spread.
Not phones most prisons in nc depending on custody level have contact visits. No tvs period not personal ones. Silent tv. You buy earphones. No cash at all, money is on a card. Maximum amount you could spend, 45$ a week. I did 8 months at ncciw in Raleigh. Maximum security prison for women. Death row for women there
Segregation for those locked showers and the glass visitation
