I live in rural Arkansas. When I moved here everyone on my street had those and a police scanner on the porch. They got a 30 pack of beer and enjoyed the action every night. I used to drink whiskey and watch the people doing this.
That's so funny. That's the same thing I got my dad to do to his bug zapper like 30 years ago. The next morning there was a huge pile of dead bugs and a bird underneath it.
Just picked up an old Sears 70w bug killer from a thrift store for $17,works great, has some white bulbs and going to switch them out to light blue bulbs, heard it will attract more mosquitoes.
The new bug zappers use a voltage Tripler with diode's and capacitors, but the old bug zappers used a good old iron core transformer that fed a steady current and voltage to sustain that sizzling arc that we all crave to hear.
I'm working on a SEARS bugwacker, 1acre I think, rated that is 5500V 9MA. I was changing to use a screw in bulb socket and accidentally drilled into the primary coil winding. Not rewinding anytime soon.
A giant moth frying on one of these things is TH-cam material. I have one of the vintage zappers it's a flowtron from the late 70s and works well. If I had a similar modern unit I'd cut out all the grating and let the bugs fly in and FRY.
A higher voltage capacitor will still only charge to the output voltage of the charging circuit/transformer.... a higher capacity capacitor won't arc further, but it'll arc bigger.
Just a box where bat's can roost during the day. You can find them on Amazon or most pet stores. Might take a year or two to get bats to settle in them.
I have about 3 bats that fly in my backyard every evening. The lazy bums don't work in the day though. As many bugs as bats may eat I still have loads more. I'm just in a prime location for them in the woods.
In my house there a lots of gecko, bird that protect with those grate. Its a good idea but it might be hazardous to human too if kid touch it ang got zap with 4Kv.
A giant moth stuck in one? I can top that. My buddy had a possum fry in one. Not intentionally (so he says). I guess the thing tried climbing down it. But when it got zapped, one of its fingers got stuck in the wire mesh and kinda laid/hung across the rest of the unit until my pal wondered what was burning.
Ethan Devlin lots of tiny mosquito looking bugs. they don't bite. but they can get in your nose and all over you. annoying as hell if they get inside too
I have the biting variety of bugs here. I just had to check my tick bite I got the other day, No bulls eye so maybe I'm safe? I plan on getting 3 more 20 pound bags of insecticide to spread over the property soon. My spring time application is wearing off. I'll tell you what to do to someone if you don't like them. Get some Japanese beetle traps and put them on their property. I made that mistake one year. I swear every beetle in the county was in my yard! It took years to wipe them all out.
Hello, My client saw your video 3 years ago and did your method and he got hurt a year ago.. and hes looking for compensation to the fullest and the legal amount must be paid in full Once the settlement has been finalized.. you will be hearing from my legal team in the mail.. thank you
Build a bug zapper from a solar powered electric fence is what i am thinking and how i found your video. Gave you a sub. Hey, i also would like to know how one could convert bug zappers to DC? Is thatvpossivle? Inhave a bunch of ac zappers? Maybe if you made a vid on it you could also explain how to convert a AC led string light iver to dc?
My flowTron is about 14 inches tall, midsize I guess, within a week here in Pennsylvania, the light was almost blocked out because the dead mosquitoes were about half an inch thick.I have a small stream about 75 feet from my house running through my property. I had no idea there were that many’mosquitoes . I hang that light up down by the stream in March, I change the attractant in July with some fresh attractant, and I don’t bring it until the first frost in mid November. I don’t know what I like the sound of better, a sizzling steak, or a sizzling mosquito. Just in 2018 and new insect showed up here in Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh. I believe they’re called can’t see ems..Does anybody know of a bug zapper that would take care of them? They show up in May and they’re pretty much gone by the end of June. And they seem to only come out in the evening after 5 PM.
they cut the power back in newer ones / the old ones higher voltage the wider the electric field small bug gets zapped new zappers same spacing but reduceded juice smaller field / got to increase the transformer hope it up
Being facetious to convey the amount of electricity I want to pulse through the exploding bodies of the insects I hate. A fuck load. Hey if it cost me an extra 5 bucks a month a have a tesla coil that can kill seagulls I'd do it
If you want to test the voltage go get a electric fence tester from a farm store with voltage readout it has 6 or 7 neon lamps that each light up displaying the voltage
Mainly because I do 0 editing because my laptop is from 2008. Lol. Trying to get my wife to get a new computer. Editing is the one and only thing I need a comp for
I would be surprised if it is not a step up transformer. Something like a furnace ignition coil? They're a lot of fun. Amaze your friends! But to measure the voltage in something like that you could feed it a lower input voltage, then measure that, and extrapolate the difference. Because transformers are linear. That's how I figure out unknown transformers. I also put a bulb in series to limit the current. If the bulb really lights up there's something wrong. I love a good visual indicator. But it might have some kind of a janky switch mode PSU in it? Lots of things do today. Then figuring out the output voltage may be more complicated. You need to check out flyback experiments. There's shitloads of nuts on TH-cam that do those. You could make that zapper zap even when no bugs are landing on it. Here's a spark playing music. th-cam.com/video/KscucLOvvmY/w-d-xo.html
I used to have a 10kv neon xfmr and I have a 3kv ignitor for a jet heater. love playing with that kind of shit. I watch tons of videos of basement scientists with their variac xfmrs and oscilloscopes and wish I knew electrons like they did. only one way to learn... soup up a bug zapper. I just have to do some research. after I filmed this is was thinking there has to be a low amp, high volt transformer to feed that cap to get the zap (title for next video) so im gonna see if I can get my hands on another neon transformer and learn some science in an attempt to kill bugs.
holy shit. I just went through the channels you subscribed to and I'm honored to be among electro boom and rinoa supergenius. and I subbed to like 10 more I never heard of. gonna fully stalk your subscriptions tomorrow
Yeah the Intertubes is chock full of great info about high voltage electronics. I messed with it once myself years before I got online. Like you I enjoy seeing what others are up to making high voltage apparatus today. Someday I am going to have to build a Tesla coil I suppose? But back in the day I did what I did with common items. I made an oscillator with a 555 timer IC that I drove a MOSFET with, then I put that pulsed DC through a step up transformer, which fed a ladder voltage multiplier, that drove a car ignition coil. I powered the whole thing with a 9V battery and it would bridge a one inch spark gap. Which I thought was pretty good for just being powered by a little battery. Most of what I see today is flyback transformers out of CRTs. I think people make tuned tank circuits with those? Which when done right yields rather impressive results.
Save someone some real pain: Discharge capacitor before touching kill cage. Doesn’t matter if it’s been unplugged for some time. Great video: but maybe add warning text at start. I think you can add annotation from TH-cam without editing and reuploading. I connect my positive and negative prong on power cord with an insulated screwdriver to discharge, but not sure if this is theproper method or works universally.
Dude please put the neon light transformer down , this can be very dangerous ! Gona increase my electric bill OMG . I bet with 15500v transformer you could blow the wings off a wasp with about a 3 inch plate spacing , but you might die trying 😢 people that work with that kind of stuff have special equipment and it gets certified cuz it can fail over time
wtf was this?.. where is the mod? only as$ holes don’t cut cage off out the box. tired of smelly burning bugs. I need mine to slay bugs with lightning so i don’t have to fish them out when i get sick of listening to and smelling them cook
I live in rural Arkansas. When I moved here everyone on my street had those and a police scanner on the porch. They got a 30 pack of beer and enjoyed the action every night. I used to drink whiskey and watch the people doing this.
police scanner + bug zapper + beer = a damn good night
That's so funny. That's the same thing I got my dad to do to his bug zapper like 30 years ago. The next morning there was a huge pile of dead bugs and a bird underneath it.
made sense to me. more open, more killing, more better
Mike's Tool Shed The one he had back then had metal screens on it. That bug zapper will go off none stop now.
I can see this becoming awesome and funny as shit, especially after a case of beer
Alot easier to clean when the bugs explode. No bodies laying inside. The bigger the pop, the less parts land in the bottom.
Just picked up an old Sears 70w bug killer from a thrift store for $17,works great, has some white bulbs and going to switch them out to light blue bulbs, heard it will attract more mosquitoes.
Flowtron is the old time zapper. It cooks
The new bug zappers use a voltage Tripler with diode's and capacitors, but the old bug zappers used a good old iron core transformer that fed a steady current and voltage to sustain that sizzling arc that we all crave to hear.
I'm actually super excited to see what you got planned for this please make it epic
I'm working on a SEARS bugwacker, 1acre I think, rated that is 5500V 9MA. I was changing to use a screw in bulb socket and accidentally drilled into the primary coil winding. Not rewinding anytime soon.

A higher voltage capacitor will still only charge to the output voltage of the charging circuit/transformer.... a higher capacity capacitor won't arc further, but it'll arc bigger.
the only thing i know is nothing... but if this true, than i know something.
I just put up a bunch of bat houses.
Damn. That's not a bad idea. I do have a bunch of bats around already. Birds eat a bunch too. Good idea... What's a bat house
Just a box where bat's can roost during the day. You can find them on Amazon or most pet stores. Might take a year or two to get bats to settle in them.
pretty sure I need that. bats are cool even if they don't eat bugs
I have about 3 bats that fly in my backyard every evening. The lazy bums don't work in the day though. As many bugs as bats may eat I still have loads more. I'm just in a prime location for them in the woods.
You do understand birds eat insects... Darwin award because they're hunting for food?
These bug zappers are the reason we have so many mosquitoes as the zappers mostly kill beneficial insects many of which are predators of mosquitoes.
In my house there a lots of gecko, bird that protect with those grate. Its a good idea but it might be hazardous to human too if kid touch it ang got zap with 4Kv.
"I want something that's going to increase my electric bill" - Mike's Tool Shed
little Tim Talor in all of us, "MORE POWER!!!!!!!😁
yeah boy the 80s i was a teenager / zappers was the bomb boy !!!! toast everything beetles moths everything big bugs was the loudest
Excuse me, but it's called the MURDER CAGE
Hook up a arc welder to it and turn up the amps.
“The killing cage” 😂😂😂
A giant moth stuck in one? I can top that. My buddy had a possum fry in one. Not intentionally (so he says). I guess the thing tried climbing down it. But when it got zapped, one of its fingers got stuck in the wire mesh and kinda laid/hung across the rest of the unit until my pal wondered what was burning.
Love it I could drink beer with this guy.
Perfect uber bug zapper incineration is the way lolololo
Yes, get them Bug Killer
I probably need like 6 of these for my property. I live near some water so I have 10X more bugs than where I lived before
Mike's Tool Shed On states island NY there are a lot of parks and small lakes I definitely understand.
This is the best shit I’ve watched all day. Thank you for my entertainment
Bug zapper night. I love it. Its a new weekly event.
Man I've got tons of those big ass files around here to
I had a raccoon problem and now I don’t...I’ll let you guys figure out the rest...
where is the next video on this mod??
This video is just talk, no substance.
What state do u live in lot of big bugs or lots of small ones
Ethan Devlin lots of tiny mosquito looking bugs. they don't bite. but they can get in your nose and all over you. annoying as hell if they get inside too

I'll add this to my list of shit that didn't happen.
time for a MOT mod lol I was thinking maybe an old 80kv coil from a car
smile . you can`t kill them all ! good vid.
Build a bug zapper from a solar powered electric fence is what i am thinking and how i found your video.

Mine gave out and I can’t find parts for it 😢
I was thinking the same thing, that small insects don't get zapped. A REAL mod would come up with a finer grid to close the gap.
they cut the power back in newer ones / the old ones higher voltage the wider the electric field small bug gets zapped new zappers same spacing but reduceded juice smaller field / got to increase the transformer hope it up
Dude if u get it to do like old school one u need to let me know how to make one.
You want something to increase your electric bill??? Hahaha
Being facetious to convey the amount of electricity I want to pulse through the exploding bodies of the insects I hate. A fuck load. Hey if it cost me an extra 5 bucks a month a have a tesla coil that can kill seagulls I'd do it
Mike's Tool Shed so when you wake up to a pile of dead bugs and birds under the zapper you know you've done a good job!
If you want to test the voltage go get a electric fence tester from a farm store with voltage readout it has 6 or 7 neon lamps that each light up displaying the voltage
You learn these random tools exist when growing up on a farm and using them.
why didn't you use intro music as a Metallica song from kill em all
Mainly because I do 0 editing because my laptop is from 2008. Lol. Trying to get my wife to get a new computer. Editing is the one and only thing I need a comp for
You never done anything with it. Wtf?
He died

Bugs hit mine and they squrim a little then fly off
i've seen bugs that can eat that piece of junk and ask for seconds.....
the normal is eleagle in my cuntry -.-

Not much information
