Very cool. I'm a Canadian, and I was in a band for 8 years with three Italian Canadian friends. We did the godfather theme as part of our set, with our singer singing the Italian lyrics. It always went over well, even though the audience had no idea what Rob was singing. I play mandolin as well as guitar (sorry) and bass (poorly). I'm going to have to learn this song on mandolin. Thanks for another great video, Dave.
(With this video, I believe Davie is now part of the last decade’s best italian musicians). Greetings from Italy, English speakers.
*My Mom is EPIC, which is why she has decided to learn to play bass! I am so excited to teach her, because she has been my biggest supporter since I started studying music over 28 years ago.*
In the Philippines, we have what I believe is basically the same instrument. We call it banduria, maybe that is its Spahish name. It is seldom played as a solo instrument, but usually in a large string band called a rondalla. It is common in folkloric performances, and many high schools have a rondalla group as a co-curricular activity.
I see him play all these other instruments, and I think, gosh, I wonder what he could do with a bass. It’s odd that he’s never played one in any of the videos I’ve seen. Oh well. Maybe someday 😊
Fun video! I’ve been taking up mandolin lately, and wondered why it’s not a more popular instrument - after all, it’s small and lightweight, and you can learn a full song in one lesson then spend the rest of your life exploring it. But I’ve since figured out the answer: It is BRUTAL on your fretting fingers. Take the callouses you get from playing guitar, and then it’s like putting them up against a cheese grater.
well ... regarding its four sets of each two identical strings, it might let him feel it as an 4-string-instrument :D (if you dont know: the mandolin has those sets of identically pitched strings to be able to play those smooth fast tremoli.
The mandolin i use for rock band in my band class is the same model as this and even has the sane electronic components, but its a school instrument not one that was given to me or bought by me

I hope it gets better.
Actually, like it goes hard
Because Michael Corleone was playing it
can anyone tell me what app to use to tune down to drop d drop c etc pls im asking this question for days 😭

For everyone wondering he played:
1) O' Sole Mio 0:16
2) The Godfather Theme, aka Love Theme 1:19
3) Funiculì Funiculà 2:15
thanks
I’m pretty sure that last song was the jingle for the classic 90’s board game Grape Escape. So many memories!!
The very, very end is a Japanese children’s song - Oni no pantsu (translates to “the ogre’s underwear”)

Honestly if he slaps it i think the strings will just pop out cus they are hella thin

Getting tremolo synced up so perfectly on both a melody and a harmony ( 1:50 ) is so incredibly difficult. Well done, I'm impressed 👏
Davie playing the Godfather theme was a really nice callback to how he started his career, playing Michael Corleone in the Godfather trilogy.
