If you look before the crossing on either side you will see a wire feeding into one of the rails. When a train approaches, the metal wheels bridge the gap between the two and complete the circuit. The lower the resistance, the closer the train. If the resistance slows or stops and remains constant, the signals will deactivate.
how do those train crossings figure out when to drop the gate? i use to think it was a sensor a certain distance away from the crossing, but this video shows an obvious calculated time of intersection. is there an array of sensors that calculate the speed of the approaching train, and then the cross can anticipate the train crossing?
I'm trying to watch this video, as it appears to be really outstanding. But, the darn thing won't load! Is it because a whole bunch of other folks are also trying to watch this video at the same time?
No wonder the train's going slow. have a look at the state of the trackwork. Sure could use a bit of maintenance. Do you have many train wrecks over there?
@ Brandon02582 Amtrak doesn't even run on the Portland And Western. The P&W have done nothing wrong to delay Amtrak. Research the railroads amtrak operates on before you call a railroad "Slow fucking piece of garbage."
I love 3006’s horn and bell sound
Hypnotic and restful! Thanks!
Excellent video Ervan, with some great camera work and superb quality all round...5* Bob
Great video, Ervan!
That K3LA sounds amazing
Nice video... great sound!
Does the Portland and Western railroad interchange with the Spokane, Portland and Seattle railroad?
Thanks Bob, your comments are appreciated as always.
Reminds me of the trains in north Salina, KS. Slow and dragging.

Yep
4台のディーゼル機関車で数十輌の貨車を運搬する迫力には感銘する。
Thanks, around 2- 5 trains a day
Does PW run south from Albany toward Eugene and if so, how far?
I still think it's sensors, but I don't know for sure how they figure out when to drop the gate.
Nice video.
Thanks, for the info
nice video

On River rd South two miles out of Salem at Minto Brown Park

I think they were waiting for a southbound train to pass
Okay, I solved the problem.
The video can't be viewed in HD.
Uncheck the HD, and it works.
Try later I did get it to work in HD, but it is slow to load.
Thanks for watching
I know nothing when it comes to trains so is it just the vid or do I see some of those train cars flexing and bending slightly when they go by?
It uploaded fast (30 min) but then 4-5 hours to get HD not right it should take 30 min.
Thanks, it would have been a 10 min video if was long
I do think it is because of that
@TRAINMANCW by the sounds of it, it sounds like there is no track at all...
I don't know maybe someone else will
the 664 !!!
Portland and western train railroad crossing track
why is the train going so slow?
very good video mate kinda made me laugh because at certain parts the train sounded like a retarted band
0:20 1km ... 0:42 2 3 4 5 6 7 Km
No, but we could
It did seem like they could have went faster

Why? Why'd it have to be going like 3 mph? I could walk faster than this train.
That is VERY slow
even my grandma and she is 98 can run faster than that XD
Thanks
