This card should never have been legal in DL. It's in MD and the one deck that uses it wins instantly whenever it resolves
Or that grass looks greener cuz there was a blasting of the ruins burn/self mill deck that got that card banned along with the all of the graveyard effects.

@@Elleraiser yea there was life gain stuff, or the easiest was using tea. One of her skills lets you do LP cost effect for nothing, i think once or twice. Pretty strong
My favourite is Firewall Dragon because it's the one card they never needed to give an explanation for not hitting and then hitting. Everyone knew. Nor did they have to explain why it came back with the changed effect it did. Again, everyone knew.

@@bollockjohnson6156 Firewall Dragon was the ace monster of the at-the-time most recent anime, Vrains. Since the anime is a big part of their marketing they reeeeeally didn't want to ban such a high profile mascot monster. It'd be if like the original Dark Magician was printed as an effect monster with like, Chaos Emperor Dragon's effect. Funnily enough, I hear something similar did actually already happen in the ancient days of the OCG with Exodia showing up to ruin everything.

This is extra funny now that the OCG released a banlist explanation video and they were like "its 2022, skipping your opponent's draw phase is fine now".

on duel links they always write a reason, however vague it may be. so i really wish they’d start doing the same for tcg
my favorite is when they unlimit a card and the only reason they ever give is "we feel the power level of this card is acceptable in the current metagame".
I guess it's more elegant than writing "this card has been powercrept to hell and back, you can cope all you want, but unlike the TCG, we actually know our game, this shit is not doing anything ever again".
And they are always right.
@@pablorosada9788 to be fair they are pretty honest with most bans, especially in recent history. Like they straight up tell you, yeah were only semi limiting this so you can't throw in The usual staples. Also The reasoning for skill changes are very good imo.
Small Fact: they were wrong atleast once from my memory, Vision Hero Vyon was unlimited and then put back to limited cause The Faris package arrived.

It's weird how duel links is the one yugioh format that has explanations with its banlists, even though most of them boil down to "deck too consistent and has access to semi limited cards, semi limit 3 cards, and keep koa'ki meiru Maximus at 1".
Maximus was actually released from the banlist, funnily enough. Koa'ki Meirus (and Amazoness) are now completely unlimited.
To be fair to keeping Maximus at 1 for so long it's not like he was worth the cost of banishing a Core anymore so not really much point in running multiple bricks that can only be summoned under certain conditions. Back in the day it was understandable but now it's like "oh no not a blue-eyes that can pop one card *AND* attack in the same turn, if only there wasn't like 15 other cards that can do the same thing but more efficiently."
Not yugioh, but a funny anecdote from a game that *does* explain why cards are banned. MtG's pauper format recently gained a panel of players (similar to the CAG) that basically tells wizards what to ban in the format, because wizards cannot be trusted with any format but especially ones where the most expensive cards are worth maybe two dollars. This was formed right before the release of modern horzions 2, a set that caused the PFP to spend approximately seven banlists consecutively going "so we think *this* hit will finally bring affinity/storm down a touch." To this day they've banned at least five cards from the format because of this one set
yeah, from just reading through the MH2 cards noone could have ever expected that affinity and storm might become an issue. Noone.
Modern Horizons 2 is just such a weird set. Like, I get why, but holy cow it sure does speak volumes about how strong Wizards seems to think modern is.

So primal seed was just banned to prevent a theoretical infinite where you could infinitely recycle any spell card and i only know this because it is used in the duel academy for the nintendo ds (i think tbh ive never played it) for getting 100%
Most of the time it would be “because we’re releasing new powerful cards and these would be able to go head to head with them and we want you to buy new product”

The Link Vrains packs were mistakes. And the longer cards from there can stay on the banlist the better.
Reminder that Pendulum effects exist that can deal with Mystic Mine. But Anti-Spell Fragrance kills their ability to set the scales needed to do so.
@@MarioLopez-xs3vc man i still think pendulum should get a ruling update to make them possible to use under anti-spell it's just too braindead that 1 cards basically gives you a whole match up either ban that shit(it's 1 less floodgate anyway everyone would be happy) or update pendulum rulings, since they cannot be set on the field they should be able to work just fine under anti-spell fragrance. Just like level based effects don't work on links

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it the OCG that made the banlist pre-September 2013 and the TCG just simply followed suit? I find it weird that the TCG (Tewart?) had to explain what the OCG did based on OCG card pool, especially considering the fact that Tour Guide was a huge TCG-only problem wheres she was still a couple of months away from being released in the OCG.

I played monarch in BA monarch kozmos format, and honestly kozmos was such a shit deck back then. You would get your big ships tributed by storm then erebus could shuffle another one, and prime stopped them from like ever killing you.
Ba would often just make f0 and steal all of the opponent's ships until they had none left. Kozmo only did things because it ran floods and had some of the best otk lines around.
Dragon buster destruction swords 1-2 month ban: “we are completely aware that there have been consistent strategies that have arised that involves this card and Union carrier being used to prevent the opponent from accessing their extra deck and special summoning all together. Due to union’s carrier’s effect of being able to attach a monster with the same type or attribute straight to the deck. We understand this is an overpowered move that guarantees games, and as a result we had to do the only logical move we could make and ban destruction sword.”
We need to give the best deck a slap on the wrist by rebanning a completely fair card that was used in two Tier 1 decks in its lifetime while subtly murdering both the second best deck and many rogue decks with different bans.
Try guessing the banlist, or even the card.

Chaos Ruler 100%. Massive hit to Dragon Link well after it was dominant, and murdered a ton of rogue decks Red Dragon Archfiend included. At least they're getting support to compensate.
