  • Incredible footage on installing a new cell tower boom section using our custom mounting system. Minimizes crew risk and exposure when mounting or remove a boom section.

A great big hello to the Midwest helicopter fam. I grew up in your hanger. Went on many picks. My dad and cousin were your mechanics. Back when Ben was the pilot. I learned to ride a motorcycle on the tarmac back when there wasn’t much around the hanger. Absolutely thrilled to see you on TH-cam

90' . That's my limit. I found out the hard way. I will latch on and freeze inches above that. Can't do it.

Wow. Incredible. The first attachment of it isn’t it’s final place is it? How does it get positioned into its final place?

With the system we use, it is in its final place. The jigs are set at the height needed. After it it on the jig, the backing plates are installed, and the jig removed.

Judging by your hand signals, does the camera filming somehow feed up to the pilot?

The camera was on on a mount. Midwest provides our own signalman who is not in camera view. Our signalman is communicating via radio to the pilot as well as hand signals. The tower crew in view were just letting our signalman know what they needed. Team effort, by some talented individuals.

I'm curious to what's all in the bag that's delivered. And what's in the bag that you give the helicopter?

Sometimes we have ballast in them to equally distribute the weight of the antenna on the tower. That makes it easier for the tower crew to line it up. Bags closer to the center have the plates, hardware and tools to tighten up the antenna to the tower. This saves room on the tower when the crews are moving around. On longer days, it may even include a lunch or two.
