    A topic that we are contacted about often is how do you know what bust cup size a pattern designer drafts for? And how do you know what bust cup size you are? In this video we talk through how to measure yourself, calculate your cup size and discover designers who offer bust cup options.

    Great video, but I as an older woman with a full bust, I would always measure my full bust with a bra on. Gravity takes its toll. Bust position and shape is quite different with and without a bra.

      I also wear a bra when measuring, otherwise it's inaccurate due to aging, weight loss, and gravity. I tend to wear the same style of bra, so fluctuations are minimal.

      I was hoping someone would bring this up. I am 70 and they are closer to my belly button than my arm pit. lol

      I do too. The main problem is when someone is wearing a very poorly sized bra and tries to get measurements from that. It'll toss everything off.

      I might as well use my waist measurement if I’m going to measure without a bra! 😬

    Great job on this very informative video regarding bust cup sizing! As well as the bits about your deep dive on your web site and how to search out specific pattern requirements. Very helpful thank you.

      @Aly C. How do you filter the channel here on TH-cam? I also was wondering if it's possible to search content within a channel, as many videos don't show up on a general TH-cam search. Sorry this comment is not on the video content itself.

    • @AlyC-dk6rm
      @AlyC-dk6rm ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dlg1603 When you click on the channel's name within TH-cam (e.g. The Fold Line written in bold type), you're taken to that channel's TH-cam page. On The Fold Line's own TH-cam page, underneath their name, they have a series of tab headings (HOME; VIDEOS; PLAYLISTS etc) and at the end of that series is a search box. This is the search feature that you use to search the individual channels vlog posts. Hope this is clear, makes sense and helps you out 🙂

    Oh my goodness ladies - thank you so much for this great, informative video! 🤩 I appreciate it so much!
    If you felt that you could explain other body modifications as clearly as this I would be over the moon. I never know when and how to account for them, and it has meant I’ve really stopped making clothes, which saddens me so much.
    When it comes to trousers, say, I don’t know how to pick the right size in a pattern when I think I should probably be allowing for a full tummy adjustment, and maybe a sway back adjustment too. A simple and straightforward video like this would open up the world of sewing clothes to me again 🥹

    Measuring the high bust to determine cup size never made sense to me, but EUREKA! now I understand why it's important in sewing--shoulders. Can't believe I never thought about that before.

    • @TheFoldLine

      We agree, it’s not often explained why the high bust measurement is on a size chart

    Useful & informative video 👍🏼. However, I personally disagree with the advice to only measure without wearing a bra. I would always recommend measuring the bust area whilst the person is wearing the bra/underwear they usually wear (or whatever the undergarment they intend to wear with the clothing that they wish to make).

    • @TheFoldLine
      @TheFoldLine  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Claire. I should have made this clearer in the video - I was referring to not wearing a bra for the high bust measurement. Agreed for various reasons you would want to wear a bra for the full bust measurement!

      @@TheFoldLineThank you for clarifying ☺

  • @dlg1603

    What adjustments do you make if you are between sizes on the pattern? If your difference is 1.5 inches I'm assuming I would pick a B cup size but then what adjustment would I need?

    • @sewincidentally...3411
      @sewincidentally...3411 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For someone with 1.5"-2" difference between their High Bust + Full Bust I'd personally recommend their using the Dressmakers B-Cup pattern option. For below 1.5" difference then the front bodice pattern piece (which on its own is half of the body's front, it's also a quarter of the body's total circumference - once you take into account the back) may need a ½" SBA (Small-bust adjustment) made to the pattern piece LHS ½" + RHS ½" = 1" Total removed from all of the front ✅ ☺
