Didn't Minke look grand with her sails full of wind. You must be immensely proud of yourselves for getting her to this stage

Just seeing the guest crew not once questioning the sea worthiness of Minke speaks volumes on how far you have progressed from when you first started this project. Looking forward to next week.

So happy to see the puppy wearing a harness and line secured to the cat while under sail. He has turned out to be a great little fellow. He sure does love you both. You are doing a fabulous job with the boat.♡

Minke is showing you it truly is worth the effort to fix er up the best you can. Minke looks so good all stretched out sails flying in the wind like the beautiful cat she was made to be. With your dingy swinging in the breeze from those new davits. And Yoshi keeping watch over Minke and you all. He is so proud and happy to be your salty sailing dog! May you and your friends enjoy a lovely trip.

im glad you've got experienced friends aboard.
The scenery is stunning remember your looking at the top of an ancient mountain that stood in the middle a salt desert deeper than the Danikil depression till the Atlantic broke in and filled the Med.

As soon as the sails go up it is good to want the best performance out of her. A few tweaks can often add a knot or so. 30 miles at 5 knots is 6 hours and 30 miles at 6 knots is five hours. an hour extra for sundown with a glass of red. Magic.

From the boat graveyard to being back in her element! Classy while still a little bit sassy what with the work still to be done. Great episode and it made this landlocked lubber yearn for the open seas---and in a cat, no less! Loved the stability of the dual hulls but the noise of the rigging would have me diving overboard after not too long 🙂 Just kidding---what do I know from what's normal and what's something to be concerned about? The thumping of the port shaft or whatever; now there's a thing to look into (and I am sure you're going to after a day of chill-down). Fair winds!

Cat (Kat?) is a bloody good helmswoman! And so good to see Pete checking rig tension when you got into the heavier puff. Such common sense crew work, on passage, for many of us but the discipline of it ensure rigs stay up and you reach your next anchorage in one piece. They're a pleasure to watch on deck.

Hi Mark. Think about putting a gybe preventer ( vang) on your main boom), when broad reaching or in heavy swell, it helps prevent wear and tear on your mast and gooseneck and also the relentless banging. You should run it from the end of the boom to the bows but I use mine in the middle of the boom and attach it to the centre clear. I leave the rope in place on the boom and just release it when tacking/gybjng. A very big safety feature as well.

@20:00 - 20:06 you can see the hydraulic motor shaking left and right as it's being turned by the prop, looks like you'll need to tighten that up, maybe fill the bolt holes with epoxy and re-drill them so the holes don't have as much play.
Looking forward to seeing Nadiyana's parents have some time aboard, hope they are well and safe 🤞🏻 (hope not in Shanghai or Beijing), Not sure when they'll be able to visit you, hopefully soon.

Yeap, you should try to reduce the engine noise, start with removing the radiator and fan and install a water heat exchanger for the oil, then you can close that radiator hole, and properly insulate the box, make sure that you install a temperature sender for the heat exchanger.
Nice sailing I enjoyed the video, regards to the whole crew for this passage.

AHOY ! What a super rock formation that was, with the hole through. I could spend a day just looking at that. Fabulous video ! Thanks. Oh... that vibration on the port? motor.... 'Could just be the prop turning. If it is, and you can stop it, it will reduce drag a little, surprisingly. Otherwise... I don't know what it is. Just look at Minke.... only one year ago.... still in Port St. Louis, with work going on. Now... a lot sorted out. Fresh down below, that awful steel tank out of the bow, engine fixed, rig all in use.... Well done Wildlings !

    • @WildlingSailing
      @WildlingSailing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Cheers Justin! It was so nice. We could have stayed there a while. Yeah, the props do turn, but they don't usually make that badum badum noise! I always thought that letting them spin gave you less drag, but I'm sure if I engage the hydraulic motors they should stop

For your hydraulic motor, you may want to check the cutless bearing (it does have one), if it's worn it'll start making a bit of noise. See if the prop can be moved around when you're down there, anything over a few mm means replacing them - which is a haulout event, unfortunately :/ And never mind that, 20:00 in the video (missed it) it's actually shaking around, tighten it up and it should be fine. Maybe worth taking the motors off and epoxying up the holes, and add a nice beefy metal backing plate too. But damn... does Minke look sexy under full sail! :D

    Dear Nadiyana and Mark,
It looks like Minky is sailing extremely well plus the engine runs perfect now. The only thing we advise you to do is to repair the cracks near the rudder. We have seen that this also can be done when the boat.is in the water with tec 7 sealant what easy can be ordered with EBay but it’s meant to be a temporary repair so finally Minky should be lifted out of the water to make a permanent repair. We wish you both a good journey and all the happiness of the world plus we send you ❤️ from the Netherlands.
    Best regards,
    Willeke and Dick de Graaff

I do love that little pink 'High Performance Research & Development' dinghy safely hanging from those awesome steel davits guys! Minke rocks! Proper shakedown sail too, and very wise to take Pete & Kat with you... proper mates! The summer begins and you guys are 'cracking it' in the Med at last! Brilliant! Those drone clips are also excellent Mark! Definitely time to get on with your spearfishing now though! Nothing like bringing dinner home! Does take a while to work it all out but stick to 'rock-hopping' for now which means just finning around the coastline in all the gullies and coves and seeing what is there! Slow and quite is key!
You are looking for Sea Bass, Bream, Dentex, Bonito and even Hake perhaps! The Med has been overfished so don't expect miracles! Just stick to the silver coloured fish (predators) and you won't go too wrong! Do make sure you know the protected fish like Grouper and Bluefin Tuna though Mark! Rod and line is not selective but spearfishing definitely is. Much luck!
