I personally think Peter has one of the best channels here on this platform. I never once ever felt like leaving mid video; always keeping the audience engaged.
Honestly, out of all of the stories you've covered on Amish and even the Appalachian families, this family seems the most well-adjusted and loved. A good balance of traditional values & hard work, with modern sensibilities and love for their children and one another. A family that *values* each member without guilting you, or being too judgemental of the outside world.
Also he realizes that he really does have more conveniences and help in 2023 than his grandparents great-grandparents did. They couldn't just go down to the grocery store and in purchase all of the items that you can in our today's world. Also couldn't eat a pizza on the way home. He seems to have found the balance between modern and old-time values. Being 79 I was raised on a farm and we had an outhouse for quite a while. And we didn't have all of the grocery stores where we could get just anything we wanted. I have said all my life that being raised on the farm was the most valuable thing that I did in my life because it taught me how to handle rough times as well as good times. I really do like the way that they have found a wonderful balance between maintaining core values from yester-years while using the benefits of living in our today's society.
1) Own the land 2) Have a sustainable income-stream 3) Maintain balance, neither shunning nor blindly endorsing the new social-media model of how to live. Sadly, two of those are under constant threat while the third has diminishing returns on effort vs personal benefit.
@@exposinginsanityHe was not judging, he was stating fact. We are 11th generation Mainahs, we have seen our state overrun by folks moving here for the rural farm, lakes, mountains and coastal fishing communities which has driven the prices of real estate through the roof making it nearly unattainable for native folks to purchase real estate here. And the BIGGEST problem we have here in Maine other than the high real estate prices is the fact that people move here to get away from overbearing city and state regulations and over population in their communities, yet instead of leaving that “city” mindset in the communities they left, they bring it with them. Then they get elected to town boards and the state house and institute the same oppressive regulations they fled from. We don’t fault people who want to move here, Maine is beautiful and one of the safest places to raise children, but please leave your politics and oppressive regulations at the state border. We welcome folks here, but please leave us alone, don’t turn our beautiful state into the place you fled from…that’s all we ask…and that’s all he was saying about his community in Idaho.

I lived in the north part of this valley for 5 years and it was home. This man’s family is truly an institution in the valley. They were there at the beginning.everything he said is spot on. I finally had to leave because I was one of those workers who couldn’t make enough to afford to make it my home. It was devastating to feel pushed from there by the folks moving over from Jackson hole, driving the rental prices up to unsustainable levels. I had a degree and permanent state job in my field and still couldn’t make ends meet. It was incredibly difficult to accept and have to leave. So glad his family is living their purpose and raising those amazing kids. God bless!
I'm so sorry you had to leave where you loved to be the most. That's the way it usually happens though isn't it? Or they come in to "escape" the rat race " and want to change the peaceful and friendly and hardworking, to what they left! It's sad and terrible at the same time. Good luck and God bless you wherever you end up. 🙏🙏
@@Cynthia_108 thanks for your heartfelt understanding. It is common and in many ways im grateful for the whole experience; it led me to where I am now, meeting my husband, and starting our family. Hindsight allows me to see the purpose of it all. ❤️ God bless.
Amazing to see my hometown on TH-cam, I live a few streets south of AJ and love seeing his horses and wagon on the bike path. We really are blessed to be in this type of community and live this lifestyle. Love the video.
As someone from Idaho, I expected this to be a video about running from society. But I am pleasantly surprised that these folks seem to have a friendly, charitable view of their neighbors that is unfortunately becoming rare in these rural areas. I think what he said about the commoditization of peace and quiet is spot on- people buy rural homes and move there to get away from the "hustle and bustle" of the city, but completely miss the fact that friendship and community are what made rural life great to begin with. Though IMO friendship and community are what make life great no matter where you live, urban or rural.
Dunno, mixed feelings... escaping to your own 'Private Idaho' is one thing, but deliberately raising insular kids within that fantasy is another... kinda like religious indoctrination, no matter how 'wholesome' that may be. Though one thing's for sure, enjoying the yuppie version of Amish life don't come cheap!
They are living the dream while others aren't. Majority is living in fantasy based on what is popular in media or polotica for the decade. While being cultish and lashing out at those that don't follow their temporary rules. Sounds like the real indoctrination is the ones thinking this purposeful life is indoctrination.
We moved to the woods when our son was small. We even educated him ourselves. It's a real blessing to raise kids away from the toxic cities and suburbs..
I'm glad there're kids still free, living a life full of activity, purpose, learning self-sufficiency, autonomy. Not micro managed with "stay right where I can see you" rules.
my country (The Netherlands) does not even allow home education. it is becoming a true 'democratic' corrupt shithole here. First 6 months of 2022 they even imported more than 1% of population newcomers from anti-Western countries. Western Europe is kinda lost man.
I love what he mentioned about doing something with a purpose and goal. It seems they put a lot of thought in their purpose for why and how they want to raise their kids.
@Seekers Journey Great user name btw. The LDS Church people are pretty amazing. I live in a 55+ community (and yes, I'm 54 and a half...lol) One of our maintenance guys, who always arrives looking professional (he doesn't have to) and I have had the great pleasure of talking with him and I wouldn't have known, but he is part of the LDS Church. He met his wife while doing a mission for the church. I live in the greater Boston area and I wouldn't think that I'd find a caring person like this. He home schools his children and is the hardest worker I know. I often tease him about the number of children he has. He's nearing the VonTrapp status. lol 🤣
In the LDS Church, the first commandment the Lord gave Adam/mankind is to multiply and replenish the earth. There's also a verse in the LDS scriptures that says if parents don't raise their kids in righteousness then the sins of those kids will be on the heads of the parents. Also sprinkle in the belief of the eternal family and doing baptisms for the dead etc. The LDS Church summed up in one word would be "family"
Yes. Millenial parenting ftw. Too many ppl from our parents generations only raised kids with no real purpose or meaning, didn't think about having them, they just had the kids bc they got pregnant. It's good they are intentionally thinking about how they want their kids raised.
We homesteaded for over 20 years. Our goal was to grow our own food, keep organic chickens, be as self-sustainable as possible. The disadvantage is when one gets old it's very hard to maintain this lifestyle unless you have children willing to take over and take care of you as well. We did not have children or other family who were interested or willing.

@@gary9346 I'm already west, I live in a ranch 15 miles outside Victoria Texas where we raise goats and spent my childhood living at the family ranch. We had a few hundred acres and had cattle, pigs, chickens and ducks but the main income was from farming tomatos, potatos and corn. So I know full well that lifestyle which is why I commented on it. I don't know where you live and don't care but you made a stupid comment without knowing anything about me. From your profile it looks like you're an immature kid so maybe that's why you speak from ignorance.
Seeing these kids it almost makes me cry. I work as a personal assistent in a school in a big city. Many of these kids are sitting behind screens all day long. I just see these kids full of love, joy and passion. What i see on my dayjob is kids at times being robbed of their playfullness and fantasy because everything in life they want is feeded to them. Also they lack responsability. I think the last might be the most important for a healthy child.
Me too, I'm grateful but a tinge sad. I grew up in Cleveland Ohio, and 'society' has done a terrible number on the people. Money, money, greed, greed and little love for nature and one another. We homeschool now because all of our friends and family are dying from overdoses or on their way to. Sad story. Will be moving to a rural area to live with purpose, because this just isn't it!
Not for nothing but...day job is two words, not one. It's assistant not...assistent as you spelled it. Your sentence..." they want is feeded to them."...Feeded should be fed. Did you keep your assistant job very long? Holy cow!

These boys remind me of my childhood in Appalachia. There's an innocence being lost in this country and as we see by your videos people are searching for it, reconnecting with it.
Not only in United States it's also happening in my country as lands become less affordable and people start moving from small villages or rural areas to big cities
I luv that the entire family did not appear to carry a cell phone and were not glued to a device. As a farm kid who did not have a landline until I was 17, this reminded me of my roots. Kids being taught how to do things! ❤🇨🇦🐕

So glad you pointed it out! I'm glad we didn't grow up with social media. If we took pictures, we actually took the roll of film to have it developed and what you got was what you got, and it was always fun to pick them up at the Photo-mat or drug store. We used to take off and go camping for days at a time and weren't worried about a thing. We knew how to read a map and change a flat tire or even rig something to hobble our way to get to a place that could replace a hose or spark plugs. Now we can't even wrench on our own vehicles. We are the last of the Mohicans, or at least I thought we were until I found this. I think it's great to see the kids having their own fun without being glued to some kind of device! This man is smart and has a good soul. The family is beautiful, the little ginger kid is so cute. I wish there would be more people like them. From Belgium.
So fine to see these brothers of the church living the Gospel practically. It would be so beautiful to meet them one day. Greetings from Italy, and my compliments for your nice work, Peter. I've learned English from American missionaries, and I hope it's not too bad
hundreds of thousands of kids have these good values in their upbringing without religion, just don't hear about them often because they are the quiet families that don't cause drama and all that. A lot of families I grew up with had it and hardly anyone is religious in the UK. I only know one religious family locally
Hmmm. Maybe if folks like their values so much perhaps they ought to spend a little time with the Mormon missionaries the next time they come around. “By their fruits ye shall know them.”

Hit the nail on the head. This generation of kids are by no means taught the reality of life, taught to demand what they want, and are completely consumed by the internet and becoming popular no matter the cost to others. They have no structure, no guidance, and no respect. I tell you Peter the family here makes me jealous because they have the drive to be good honest people. Such a great video.
You have tied my father’s family culture up with a bow from TX to ID. You have given me a deeper sense of appreciation for my heritage. Grateful heart. Thank you, Peter.
Those boys are super fun, they really made the show! I loved the horse and wagon ride to get pizza, that is so cool that they can ride in their town like that. Great family!
My best friend grew up like this too. Always learning. Always playing outside. Always being taught how to live by his parents. They were poor but rich as well. We loved going to their place.
This content that you’re putting up these last weeks has been CHEF’S KISS, top notch, Tier-1, however people want to describe the best. @Kendra Middleton Williams Peter has found his niche (found a suitable position in life OR .....a specialized segment of the market for a particular kind of product or service.), and although he is college educated, as am I, he continues to go above and beyond his "degree," I'm not saying don't go to college......God no, but college does help. Keep in mind that Peter is very educated when it comes to how to interact with a person or a culture.....I'm not sure where one learns this....I'm guessing (just guessing) through his experiences. He is open to all (no judgement zone) and he is learning as he goes, which makes him wonderful. (studies show that in addition to pizza, compliments towards a peripatetic person can lead to EOSB. What a beautiful and uplifting way to start a Sunday! As usual, you have captured the feel of a family living life on their own terms - healthy, happy, loved and loving. Those children will one day realize how very fortunate they have been in their upbringings. Thank you for another smile on my face and in my heart video!

i’ve met so many people here in the states who discovered Pakistan because of Peter’s vlogs. Just want to say thank you for all your hard work and genuine videos.
@Pakistani Reacts I'll add to your comment. I read up on Pakistan b/c of Peter''s videos. I even met a new guy in the butcher dept of my local supermarket who is from Pakistan. He smiled because I took an interest in Pakistan, plus I asked him how to make Chicken Karahi (mentioned in PS's video). For a guy who is all thumbs in the kitchen, it came out really good. 😎
This guy is pure evil! He's a liar, a thief and a sham! Don't believe everything you see on screen. I have a Mennonite background and I gave my life to Christ in 2019, having been through and seeing the lies this guy is putting on all you viewers that don't know any better, including his own children, is absolutely satanic!
I keep saying to myself, "I didn't even know this was a thing!" So many people want to go "off-grid" and homestead but this family does that but goes to the store when they want. And live in a modern house. I love it! Thanks Peter, this was eye-opening... as are all of your videos!
This family was awesome. In touch with their roots but not opposed to modern conveniences. The husband and wife seem like great, hardworking people that are really personable.
Dude! You went right through my town. Small world! We do really have a community of “free range” kids. Thanks for highlighting our beautiful home!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
This one hit me right in the feels. What an incredible family - and something that struck me over any of the outdoors/working the land aspects of their lifestyle, is that they spend time together as a family. I feel like I see so many families that don't seem to know each other well or even truly LIKE one another these days and seeing a family work AND play together gives me such joy.
I honestly think it comes down to the parents' *intentions*. You don't see children being raised with actual intention and purpose. Too many just throw their hands up and don't even try to connect with their kids, let alone serve them with love. They serve them with tradition and a "because I said so' attitude that really angers & hampers a person's self-worth.
I can trace multiple generations of my own family to Teton Valley, Idaho. Thank you so much for documenting the land and people of my ancestors in this video
My mom grew up in this valley. Her parents are buried there as is my father. It is one of the most beautiful places I know. It has changed so much since I was a kid that it is hard to recognize. I'm glad to see these people living this lifestyle.
Wonderful family they are excellent..they are the salt of the earth..they seem kind. The father has a lot of wisdom...they treat their animals well and that shows a lot right there,,
This gentleman makes farming, dealing with the livestock easy. Nooooo, he has it soooo hard. Works hard! I give him credit for doing as much as he and his family are doing. Thanks for the video.
I would do anything to grow up in a family like that. The work ethic they learn as kids is the best. oh man the fun...…Love the Blog, Pete!!! Thank you!
The land in that area of IDAHO is unbelievably awesome. When our Texas family visited, I think our mouths were open half the time in awe!!! Super nice homesteaders and ranchers too!!
I love how smart and thoughtful all these people are. Driven, understanding and peaceful. I love to see see young boys that are helpful, respectful and knowledgeable. That's a sign of good parenting.
Another great video story! Here is my take: Liberty and Freedom rest on a foundation of Personal Responsibility. You don't have to live on a farm to take personal responsibility, or to teach respect and personal responsibility to your children. That can be accomplished in a city or in the country.
Those kids remind me of me and my brothers growing up on the family ranch as the 4th generation. Nowadays, our parents, who wait patiently to become great grandparents, still live in the old ranch house that my great grandparents built. All us boys have raised the 5th generation out here and we're waiting to become grandparents. Wouldn't trade this life for anything.
Peter, your videos give me a look into our true USA. Watching you interacting with others with such respect and grace always warms my heart and makes me realize how impressive and important your work is. It truly makes a difference for all of us watching. Keep up your amazing travel and content. Thank you.

The kid rating themself as 9 out of 10 haha cute😊 Also really enjoying this channel - fascinating glimpses into lifestyles. Watched inner city, rural Alaska, Appalachia, Amish, about prostitution...! Wow! The interviewer Peter is so respectful, adaptable, pleasant, curious - perfect person for the job.
This is one of the most impressive lifestyles I’ve seen in a long time. Everyone should take lessons from this family! We have the same problems here with outsiders coming in and posting everything and wanting all others out. They supposedly Love our lifestyle and our area but they want it changed as soon as they get here! Imagine that. Keep up the good work and the Faith! Thanks
Most small towns have stagnant economics from the corruption of the old money power structure that have pushed many lower caste families into destitute and hopelessness with permanent glass ceiling unless they are lucky enough to escape, losing their home towns, becoming migrants for better lives. Boomers have been one of the most toxic and selfish generations, as they die off never generations finally, possibly have some opportunities. Federal state ngos and corporations like community development organizations putting billions of dollars directly into the pockets of minorities to start business anywhere they like so there is going to be intense change. Can’t say it’s going to be any worse than it has been, more like improvement.

I love watching your videos. Very educational. If you ever want to do one on rural life in South Africa - the REAL South Africa - not just the tourist Cape - I would love to have you here. We live in rural KwaZulu Natal. My husband and I take in vulnerable and special needs children and adults, most of whom fall through the cracks in our Social System. We work in our township where the needs are huge. Right now people haven't had water for 4 weeks. Some of the people haven't had water for 7 months. This is the real South Africa. Millions of people live like this.
This is my all time favorite video. I've learned so much. Thank you to Adam and family for allowing us into your lives. Thank you Peter for a great video!
I love these kinds of videos. I was raised in an urban environment, but my grandfather would occasionally whisk me away to the countryside for weekends or during school breaks. Those times were mainly spent in the garden, where he encouraged me to assist with tending to the lawn and crops. Those moments have become my most treasured childhood memories. There's a certain quality of life inherent to rural areas that eludes even the wealthiest urban settings. The family depicted in this video possesses a wealth of a different kind. My aspiration is to bring up my own children in the tranquility of the countryside, surrounded by the embrace of nature and animals. I'm hopeful I'll be able to make that dream a reality.
This by far is my favorite video you’ve done. I know I carried a torch for your Amish Series but this one touched my heart even more.I love those kids. What a fantastic interview with a great family! I only wish this was a multiple part series you were doing I’m sure there’s a lot more of their story to tell. Great job Peter
Love this one, Peter! The term free-range kid is sad. As a child of the 70's, I experienced the freedom to be outside all day in the summer/weekends in a semi-rural midwestern area. We went home for lunch when we got hungry, family dinner at 6 pm. Was this the last generation to experience such freedom? I get that it's probably not realistic in many cities. Great to see there are still people trying to raise kids to be capable independent adults. Living with a purpose is a wonderful value to teach and share. 😊❤
I grew up like this somewhat in a small town in Idaho. I live in Ohio now and I still am raising my kids like this. There is no better way. It’s so fulfilling and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Awesome!

Honestly, out of all of the stories you've covered on Amish and even the Appalachian families, this family seems the most well-adjusted and loved. A family that *values* each member without guilting you, or being too judgemental of the outside world.

And we didn't have all of the grocery stores where we could get just anything we wanted. I have said all my life that being raised on the farm was the most valuable thing that I did in my life because it taught me how to handle rough times as well as good times. I really do like the way that they have found a wonderful balance between maintaining core values from yester-years while using the benefits of living in our today's society.
they are not amish...they said LDS and I thought he was very judgmental of others with many statements he brought up about neighbors
1) Own the land

PLEASE DON’T STOP THESE SERIES, ITS PHENOMENAL.
God bless!
Wow, that’s sad
I'm so sorry you had to leave where you loved to be the most. That's the way it usually happens though isn't it? Or they come in to "escape" the rat race " and want to change the peaceful and friendly and hardworking, to what they left! It's sad and terrible at the same time. Good luck and God bless you wherever you end up. 🙏🙏
That's awful. Glad you're able to experience that part of the country for a short while though. Jealous.
Heartbreaking. I'm sorry that happened. It is a common experience, unfortunately. Peace be with you.🙏
@@Cynthia_108 thanks for your heartfelt understanding. It is common and in many ways im grateful for the whole experience; it led me to where I am now, meeting my husband, and starting our family. Hindsight allows me to see the purpose of it all. ❤️ God bless.
"I'm accountable to the people around me"... another beautiful nugget from this man. This is community
Amazing
Dunno, mixed feelings... escaping to your own 'Private Idaho' is one thing, but deliberately raising insular kids within that fantasy is another... kinda like religious indoctrination, no matter how 'wholesome' that may be. Though one thing's for sure, enjoying the yuppie version of Amish life don't come cheap!
@@klowen7778 shitlibs hate when normal people try to protect childhood
They are living the dream while others aren't. Majority is living in fantasy based on what is popular in media or polotica for the decade. While being cultish and lashing out at those that don't follow their temporary rules. Sounds like the real indoctrination is the ones thinking this purposeful life is indoctrination.
@K Lowen that's because our satanic gov. Is purposely making it harder and harder to afford family.
We moved to the woods when our son was small. We even educated him ourselves. It's a real blessing to raise kids away from the toxic cities and suburbs..
Funny it says there was one comment
I see nothing
Anyway
So happy you made it out of the urban jungle
I'm glad there're kids still free, living a life full of activity, purpose, learning self-sufficiency, autonomy. Not micro managed with "stay right where I can see you" rules.
my country (The Netherlands) does not even allow home education. it is becoming a true 'democratic' corrupt shithole here. First 6 months of 2022 they even imported more than 1% of population newcomers from anti-Western countries. Western Europe is kinda lost man.
P
I grew up in a town of about 500 people. Plenty of toxic people and ideas floating around there too.
@@gwgrote5four children
We homesteaded for over 20 years. Our goal was to grow our own food, keep organic chickens, be as self-sustainable as possible. The disadvantage is when one gets old it's very hard to maintain this lifestyle unless you have children willing to take over and take care of you as well. We did not have children or other family who were interested or willing.
On the not being able to work because of "getting old", is relative.
To bad they didn’t understand the concept

What a great dad, what a great family and lifestyle. This family is richer than all the billionaires they were talking about.
In that case, please send me all of the money you have and head west!
@clotshots9072 I'm just holding it for them.
@clotshots9072 Well, I mean, I was the one that made the offer...
I agree 100 %
Fed**
You are right @Daniela but many small town kids are also behind screens way too much as well. It’s all about parenting!
Not for nothing but...day job is two words, not one. It's assistant not...assistent as you spelled it. Your sentence..." they want is feeded to them."...Feeded should be fed. Did you keep your assistant job very long? Holy cow!
Yes, city kids can't concentrate too. Hey, you notice they are not using med eyes glasses?
Really really love these people. Love their way of life, the way they are raising their kids... just awesome

Peter always finds very interesting and eloquent people.

@@christineturner2767 Great observation! I hadn't noticed until you pointed it out. This is why I read the comments. I always learn something or find something I missed about the video. This is Tammie Miller commenting btw. I hope this message finds you well!
"Could've got in the car and took 10 minutes to get a pizza", but I've never seen kids as happy in a car as they were on that carriage!
You speak good! I lived in Italy for 3 years but have forgotten so much of the Italian I learned. Have a lovely day!! 💖💖💖
Your words are placed perfectly 🥰
I would never be a mormon, but the family and work values the boys are learning are essential life skills.
Ditto. The family values of this religion are priceless, but I agree about the religion--not my choice either.
hundreds of thousands of kids have these good values in their upbringing without religion, just don't hear about them often because they are the quiet families that don't cause drama and all that. A lot of families I grew up with had it and hardly anyone is religious in the UK. I only know one religious family locally
Oh I didn’t even realize they’re Mormon. Good for them!

I didn’t want this one to end
My best friend grew up like this too. Always learning. Always playing outside. Always being taught how to live by his parents. They were poor but rich as well. We loved going to their place.

(studies show that in addition to pizza, compliments towards a peripatetic person can lead to EOSB. i’ve met so many people here in the states who discovered Pakistan because of Peter’s vlogs.
So many kudos to that guy and his family. I know no one that has that kind of drive, dedication to do all that.

Those Percherons are awesome! I've always had a thing for large draft horses, and that team is just amazing.
The husband and wife seem like great, hardworking people that are really personable.
i must of missed that part where his wife said something...
For chickens anything but free-range became unacceptable, yet for human children being imprisoned became normal...

Dude! You went right through my town. Small world! We do really have a community of “free range” kids. Thanks for highlighting our beautiful home!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Mygreat grandparents live like this. They were poor but extremely happy and satisfied with their lives. Love you guys
I love this family’s ethics and keeping to there old ways as much as possible.
This is how all kids should be brought up.
Wonderful family they are excellent..they are the salt of the earth..they seem kind. The father has a lot of wisdom...they treat their animals well and that shows a lot right there,,
It gives me joy watching this family and the kind of life they are blessed to live.
This gentleman makes farming, dealing with the livestock easy. Nooooo, he has it soooo hard. Works hard! I give him credit for doing as much as he and his family are doing. Thanks for the video.

Another great video story! Here is my take: Liberty and Freedom rest on a foundation of Personal Responsibility. You don't have to live on a farm to take personal responsibility, or to teach respect and personal responsibility to your children. That can be accomplished in a city or in the country.
Yes, absolutely...respect for God's Land, nature, animals and people. Taking responsibility for your actions. Doing the right thing.
Amen
Grew up in Idaho and was raised just like this and would not change a thing about my childhood!

So sad.
Your ranching series is one of my favorites. It's so encouraging to see people living a lifestyle like this.
I love all of your ranching, Amish and covering of all kinds of cultures and lifestyles.

I love this family and their lifestyle. It's sad that so many are moving out there as it does change the atmosphere over time.
