My favorite final boss in any game really. Just the rollercoaster of insanity and revelations thrown at you without any breaks, culminating in you fighting the former President of the United States wearing an exoskeleton and two katanas atop of the Federal Hall in a destroyed Manhattan. Just absurdism at its best. I love MGS 2.
I just love how this song starts. All in a second, you're just thrown into the absolute horror of the ray battle and then the Solidus battle. No filler nothing.

I always cartwheel into him when he zooms at you with his rocket boot things in the second phase. In general there's a surprising degree of opportunity for stylish play in the fight
Would that be the reason every other MGS game after 2 has an incredibly watered down and simplistic story? Even MGS4, the game that followed this one up, is just a replica of MGS1's story.
Megaboss yea they had to cut alot because the original stuff was to big or way to graphic for people to see remember the tourcher scenes 1 was pretty bad and 2 was a replay pretty much but started getting worse as 3 and phantom pain came out its because they were able to do more and nothing happened in the world to cause a set back in the creations like for example of how bad mgs2 was cut arsenal gear was suppose to be shown hitting federal hall but because 9 11 they had no choice but to delete it and another deleted scene was after you kill solidus he was suppose to fall on George Washington monument but that was also cut out because people might be offended
So MGSV is essentially a stockpile of every single nightmare inducing detail they couldn't get away with prior, and Kojima wanted to showcase as much as he could before the series (should have) ended.

Really Harry Gregson Williams helped with the soundtrack. Thats why it sounds so epic. This is a man who has done some of the best Hollywood scores. He is up there with Hans Zimmer. Good choice by Kojima to keep collaborating with Harry.
Mix this with One-Winged Angel. I mean, we know Solidus and Sephiroth are two peas in JENOVA’s pod. They’re artificial humans with white hair, swords, green eyes, and they killed their blond rival’s parents

I think at that point, the AI was trying to gaslight Raiden. They laid out the issues of humanity right there in front of him, and they're being so damn arrogant about it too. They even laugh at him when he dies.

Learning you can cartwheel into Solidus to do damage has given this fight the goofiest finisher it could have every time.
