    Out of all my "hanging" plants the pothos has been the best. It suffered severe neglect, had nasty thrips, mealy bugs, was in low light for months, placed it in bathroom and it recovered growing like crazy. Other similar plants were such queens that I ended up getting rid of some because its a nightmare to upkeep with them, everything bother them. Il probably end up getting all different variations of pothos because it really is a miracle plant lmao.

    my pothos is one of my favourite and most forgiving plants I've ever owned. my pothos was completely "dead" for years. the pot had been taken over by another ivy I had planted around the same time. eventually, after years of forgetting about it, my pothos has reappeared from under the soil and is healthier than ever! I have propagated it into countless other plants and won't let it fade away on me like my past, neglectful, plant owner self had.
    thank you for the wonderful videos, I've gotten so many useful and insightful plant tips from these and find them so peaceful and relaxing. keep up the amazing work!

    Thanks for the hints. I tried a number of different growing conditions for these relatives:
    My Scindapsus pinnatum Marble Queen is growing on an extendable burlap pole (40cm per segment) quite happily with self-watering in pon with ideal light southwest, evening sun.
    My Scindapus pictus is a rapid climber, too, one in pon with self-watering and one in water, which isn´t ideal for it.
    My four Epipremnum aureums (Golden Pothos) are growing like a weed hanging down 2m (so far) from their pots, also in pon with bottom watering, west window.
    Just the Epipremnum N-joy seems to be a slow grower and struggles. Here I'll have to see what I need to change.
    All in pon, either with self-watering or bottom watering. None in soil. All fairly thirsty and hungry fellows.

    Many of us aquarium hobbies grow pothos hydroponically by adapting them to grow soil-free inside the aquarium. I’ve plants that are many years old, big leafed, lush, healthy, and without root rot. They do an amazing job removing all the nitrates from the fish tank. Might address this practice at some point.

    Apparently, there are POTHOS that LIKE growing in water only! I've had one in a large vase for over 12 years! I change the water twice a year and give it a good liquid fertilizer. I even tried planting a cutting in soil...it died. So, I leave it in the water, pruning it occasionally. It gets indirect sunlight for about 4 hours a day. Thank you for the MONSTERA advice. I was gifted one and, because of your advice, it's thriving.

    All my pothos plants grow happily in mud - the roots are basically submerged as the pot of compost is watered until there is a layer of water on top of the soil and it is maintained at that level. The same for syngoniums and dieffenbachias. I can't stop them growing! The dieffenbachias also don't seem to lose lower leaves - I just have to keep chopping them down, rooting the pieces and giving them away.

    Recently i bought the exact same Photos plant with the same coco fibre pole. After a few days my fiance noticed the staples and we quickly removed all of them, it were like 25 in total or something, really crazy... Then after some time i also noticed that the coco fibres are tightened on a cheap and thin plastic tube with ultra thin braided polyester fibres.
    Some of the aerial roots and the normal twigs were getting strangled by these polyester fibres so i cut all these braided fibres, then i removed the entire platic tube and all the braided fibres and replaced it with a normal untreated organic wooden pole and tightened the Photos to the pole iwht some jute strings with hennep fibres in between.
    I only hope my Photos won't be too shocked after all of this😂
    I do have the Photos in a far bigger terracota pot than recommended but my soil mix is very rich and very well draining, i got several layers of stones and bark in the bottom with a big drainage hole in the pot. The mix itself has like 7 different kinds of stones, coir, bark, sand, perlite and soil in it so i hope it will be alright 🤞😂😬

    You mentioned too much soil/water in a too-big pot leads to root rot. Can you explain the science behind Pothos thriving in hydro and semi-hydro? Is it something to do with the oxygen? (Love how informative your videos are. And your humor.)😍

    • @SheffieldMadePlants
      @SheffieldMadePlants  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Yeah soggy soil lacks oxygen so roots suffocate. Water has oxygen

    • @drakeweddner
      @drakeweddner 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Root rot actually has more to do with bacteria and fungi dieing because of the lack of oxygen, the death of micro organisms causes a very acidic environment if root rot was caused by lack of oxygen then water propagation and hydroponics would not work

  • @Yupppi

    I can see there has been market research on viewers! Maybe this will stop me from killing the easiest house plant. Although I can't relate to pruning. The surviving stem has 8 leaves in like 10 cm and that's the whole plant. The end of the stem branches into 4 leaves itself in like 2 cm. My pothos gets upset from overwatering, I've watered it like three times this year or something. I have a growing base that's something like 50% soil and 50% coco coir and perlite, and a pot that has a draining "saucer" on the bottom, it was slightly bigger for all the 5 cuttings it had. I thought it would've been draining enough. Now I water it against all rules - practically never and only a drizzle, and at least that one stem is thriving while the other stem left is dying, looking like it feels too wet in the pot.

    6:25 - Tropical plants do not experience the same Winter the North provides. Winter for those plants means low temperatures of 18C/64F. They may not need too much food during Winter but they will continue to eat and grow if weather is OK for them. If you keep your indoor temperature warmer than 18C during Winter, it might feel to the plant like a 6 month long Autumn/Fall season, until Spring kicks back in.
    If you keep your indoor lower than 18C but above freezing, this plant will still be alive and eating, but much less, as it would do on Temperate zones. Anything below freezing is a death sentence to the Pothos.

      Yes there are 360 wire moss poles. I believe they have kits on Amazon or you can make them yourself. You can google how to make diy wire moss pole and you should find a ton of info! Some of those coco coir poles are actually extendable. If it has a hole at the top of it then you can just add a new coco coir moss pole(also on Amazon) on top and gently guide your plant onto the new pole. If the pole is not extendable then yes, I would remove the plant from its original setup and move it to one of your liking. There are so many videos on moss poles on TH-cam. I’m sure you can find exactly what you need help with. Hope this helps! Good luck 😊
